According to "The Hollywood Reporter", Tom Cruise is in negotiations to take the lead role in WE ARE MORTALS, which was previously known as ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, a movie
adaptation of a Japanese manga set in an alien invaded distant future world. When a new recruit (Tom Cruise) is killed in action, he is forced to relive the brutal battle of that day and the events leading up to it over and over again. Through this, he becomes a better warrior, and discovers a way to beat the aliens in battle. The role was previously linked with Brad Pitt. This is not Cruise's only sf role, since he is also starring in HORIZONS, as a man who lives in the clouds above Earth and heads to its surface to repair drones that essentially keep the planet safe from an alien race that has all but wiped out humanity. Down there he meets a mysterious girl.

Check out a cool new poster for a film I've written about last year, apocalyptic thriller THE DIVIDE which should finally hit cinemas January 2012. Milo Ventimiglia, Michael Biehn and Rosanna Arquette star as nine strangers, all tenants of a New York high rise apartment, who
escape a nuclear attack by hiding out in the building's bunker-like basement. Trapped for days underground with no hope for rescue, and only unspeakable horrors awaiting them on the other side of the bunker door, the group begins to descend into madness, each turning on one another with physical and psycho-sexual torment. As supplies dwindle, and tensions flare, and they grow increasingly unhinged by their close quarters and hopelessness, each act against one another becomes more depraved than the next. While everyone in the bunker allows themselves to be overcome by desperation and lose their humanity, one survivor holds onto a thin chance for escape even with no promise of salvation on the outside. Click to watch the thrilling trailer I posted almost two years ago!

Your trailer treat for today is the second trailer for the modern movie adaptation of Shakespeare's play CORIOLANUS, shot
last year in Serbia with Gerard Butler and Ralph Fiennes (who is also the director). Coriolanus' (Ralph Fiennes), a revered and feared Roman General is at odds with the city of Rome and his fellow citizens. Pushed by his controlling and ambitious mother Volumnia to seek the exalted and powerful position of Consul, he is loath to ingratiate himself with the masses whose votes he needs in order to secure the office. When the public refuses to support him, Coriolanus's anger prompts a riot that culminates in his expulsion from Rome. The banished hero then allies himself with his sworn enemy Tullus Aufidius (Gerard Butler) to take his revenge on the city.
Woo hoo! Definitely excited for CORIOLANUS!! The second trailer looks good, can't wait to see that one. Thanks Dezzy.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would be the first one to like it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda meh on the whole film ... not even sure I'll watch it, don't like the actresses in it and the visuals, but I'm interested to see if it will have Oscar success or not.
Looking forward to Coriolanus.
ReplyDeleteCruise I can do without.
Ya know, the trailer doesn't do anything for me.
ReplyDeletehe he most of us can do without Cruise :) Did you know that there's a "Cruise is crazy" website which is higher in the Goggle search list than his fansites :)
ReplyDelete@Southpaw
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on that one!
We are mortals and Horizons sound great. It's a shame Cruise is starring in them ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, not much of a Cruise fan. Haven't seen one of his movies in years.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably check out Coriolanus just because I couldn't tell from the clip if they follow the play as written or if they modernized the language. It's weird sometimes to see Shakespeare's words in a modern context, but sometimes it works. Wait and see I guess.
They all sound interesting. I love scifi when it's done well.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or does Tom Cruise look kinda old?
ReplyDeleteThe Divide looks neat but I plan to avoid anything with Tom Cruise in it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Tom Cruise doesnt do it for me. Plus sci-fi doesnt really either. Lose lose for me. Sorry Tom.
ReplyDeleteI'll pass on Cruise and take a double helping of Butler! Can I have that to go?
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to tell you I saw Real Steel and, well, quite frankly...IT WAS AWESOME...not just a little awesome, but OH MY GOD REALLY REALLY AWESOME! (is that loud enough...I hope you don't mind a little shouting over here)
Okay, I'll admit it...besides Hugh looking double helping yummy - the story was believable and decent (okay, really quite good) and the acting was damn fine - everybody, even the so called bad guys, rocked their roles!
So...I'm going again with CP (my heir apparent) and then I'll go one more time alone - the only way to really enjoy a movie like this!
Oh...and the robots and the boxing...utterly phenomenal! Don't let the critics tell you otherwise!
Alright Dezz - there you have it...my nickel's worth.
Cheers, Jenny
Love the Coriolanus trailer. I wasn't too keen on the setting as I love Rome, but the acting is brilliant and it's the Bard.
ReplyDeleteTom's new films are meh for me. Plus, he's crazy. I think The Divide will be excellent. I love descents into madness except when they involve Tom Cruise. ;)
Well, contrary to opinion, I love Tom Cruise. He's easy on the eye and a mighty fine actor. Personally, he may be a bit strange, but hey ...
ReplyDeleteOh, and Coriolanus, looks fantastic!
That trailer looks good. I have to watch the movie. :D
ReplyDeleteCruise is an easy target - unfairly I think. He's made some decent movies.
ReplyDeleteButler and Fiennes doing the Bard. Bring it on.
How high is Cruises waist band? I mean, really?
ReplyDeleteThe Divide sounds interesting especially as it brings back Michael Biehn who never quite made it and he should have!.
ReplyDeleteI love Tom Cruise but not the Scientology part just him as an actor.
ReplyDelete@Lyndy
ReplyDeletetotal and utter shame :)
@Luanne
I think I heard original text in the trailer, which means we won't understand a single line in the film he he :)
@Mshatch
sf rules :)
@Erin
well, he's about 80 or 70 I think :PPP Joking aside, he looks rather good for his age and generally
@DWei
ReplyDeleteavoiding Tom Cruise and Twilight should be constitutional regulations!
@Jessie
oh, no, he will cry now ... at Oprah ... jumping on a couch ...:P
@Jenny
oooh, haven't seen the film yet, but I'm planning too ... glad you liked it. Although I wasn't in love with all of Hugh's films, he himself is more than easy to love
@Melsy
ReplyDeleteyep, it would've been much better if it was set in ancient Rome, but they went for this way since it's billion times cheaper :) Finding army vehicles and outfits in Serbia really isn't expensive :)
@Wendy
A mighty fine actor? HAve we been watching the same films of his? :PP Just joking.
@Pesos
sounds like a good plan, Pesos!
@Michael
ReplyDeletewhich films? :)
Butler and Fiennes are a nice match
@Scott
ah, Scottie, you know nothing about fashion. High waist band and deep cleavage are the new trend :)) Now go take a pic and show us some man cleavage :P
@Lurk
I also noticed that Biehn has disappeared somewhere!
@Calypso
yep, we hate Scientology! Big time!
I can't wait for any of these. Excellent!!
ReplyDeleteand I thought it was a bad day in the news department :) Glad you liked the news, Josh!
ReplyDeleteLast two films should be pretty good actually. The only recent movie I liked with cruise was mission impossible 3, everything else he's done lately is crap and then some.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a scary end of the world movie! It should be popular.
ReplyDelete@PAt
ReplyDeleteyep, they could turn out to be nice movies when they hit cinemas!
@Clarissa
it should, the trailer was super creepy :)
Am i the only one who doesn't hate Tom Cruise?
ReplyDeleteAnd Divide seems intriguing
It sounds like they're keeping the original dialogue of the play, which would be super awesome. So long as we see a Fiennes vs. Butler fight at some point it'll rock!
ReplyDeleteDirty
ReplyDeleteyou're not the only one, KAtie Holmes and Scientology guy also don't hate him :PPP
@JAmie
they will fight for sure
Thank you for sharing about The Divide!! Never heard of the news before...it sounds like my kind of movie. looking forward to know more about it
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of the Scientology thing either, i just don't think a actors personal life should matter that much if they give good performances, and i've always found Cruise believable in whatever i've seen him in.
