FORTUNES OF FRANCE
Some two years ago I told you that Robert Merle's 13 books long saga FORTUNES OF FRANCE (Fortune de France) is being turned into a six episode mini series by France2 with our dear Nicolas Duvauchelle starring alongside Gregory Fitoussi and Guillaume Gouix! The historical series, which used more than 750 extras in the production, aired in France last year, but it is now available on Prime Video for streaming. Check out the trailer with English language subtitles below and tell us what you think.

THE SERIES IS SET IN
Black Périgord, Château de Mespech, 1557. The religious wars are
threatening to spread through France. Behind the ramparts of the castle
of Mespech,
surrounded by a dangerous, hostile and intolerant world, the
Siorac family fights for its survival and its convictions. Jean
(Nicolas Duvauchelle), the
father, is forced to reconnect with violence
to defend his ideals. Isabelle (Lucie Debay), the mother, fights to exist
in a world where men make the
law. Pierre (Simon Zampieri) and François
(Marcel Thompson), the sons, suddenly enter adulthood, torn like their
country between the Protestant
faith of their father and the Catholic
fervor of their mother. There is the life of a community, masters and
servants, parents and children, epidemics,
adversaries, battles and
mourning, science and superstitions and love stories. The series is also known as The Huguenots at some places.

Don't think this is something for us. We didn't finish 'the gorge' on Apple...yesterday we started a new film Wolfs...not sure it's a good one, but with Brad Pitt and George Clooney, it's watchable.
ReplyDeleteCannot stand either of them, Clooney especially. The two of them are lovers in private life.
DeleteNot for me but the purple dress she's wearing in that one pictures sure is pretty.
ReplyDeleteAnd probably impractical.
DeleteI wish the French would add a little excitement to their works. I find they are a bit slow and boring at times.
ReplyDeleteIn the series like this one you usually get invested in the characters because they are going through so much pain and suffering.
