TIM BURTON DIRECTING A NEW "PINOCCHIO"? "MALEFICENT" FINDS A NEW HELMER. EXCITING TRAILER FOR SF "CHRONICLE"! GEORGE CLOONEY IN "MONUMENTS MEN" WORLD WAR 2 HEIST MOVIE

 One of the biggest news this weekend was that Tim Burton is going to direct a new movie version of PINOCCHIO. According to "THR", the
film will actually follow Geppetto's quest to find his missing puppet, offering the flipside to this often told tale. The bad news is that Robert Downey Jr is in talks to play the woodcarver. Speaking of Tim Burton, after he backed out from helming the movie adaptation of MALEFICENT, which would follow the famous evil witch from SLEEPING BEAUTY, Disney has now hired Robert Stromberg to direct this fantasy film. It will be his debut behind the helm since he worked as production designer before. Telling the story from the villainess perspective, the film will have Angelina Jolie in the lead role. I'm a bit shocked that Burton didn't offer both the roles of Geppetto and Maleficent to Johhny Depp :)))

HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
I don't know what is your personal opinion of Jessica Biel, but she's mostly known for her relationship with Justin Timberlake and not for her acting skills. She might try to change that with a new
leading role in EMANUEL AND THE TRUTH ABOUT FISH, a drama about a troubled 17-year-old girl Emanuel  who babysits her new neighbor Linda's "baby," which is actually a very life-like doll. She goes along with the delusion while befriending Linda (Jessica Biel), who happens to be the spitting image of Emanuel's late mother. Alfred Molina and Frances O'Connor are also in the cast. Remember how a few days ago I complained about tones of heist films being planned in Hollywood? Well, there's a new one, as "Digital Spy" reports, George Clooney will direct and write and also star in MONUMENTS MEN, a big-budget movie about the men who chased down the stolen art of Europe during World War II. They were a hand-picked group of art experts chosen by the U.S. government to retrieve artwork stolen by the Nazis.

One of the films which will premiere this year (in February to be more precise) is also a strange mixture of sf and an immature teen movie titled CHRONICLE. Although the technique of  shooting the film with
a video camera used by the characters from the film themselves can be a bit irritating, the story is quite interesting: the story centers on Matt (Alex Russell), his awkward cousin Andrew (Dane DeHaan), and Steve (Michael B. Jordan). When Matt and Steve discover a bizarre hole in the Earth at a party, they get Andrew, who documents everything with his new camera, to help because his camera has a light. After exploring this hole/tunnel, the group realizes they have been bestowed with telekinetic abilities, i.e. they can move stuff with their minds. But, soon, though, they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as they embrace their darker sides. Check out the exciting trailer.

  3. Whilst I love both tim burton and Downey jnr., I think the mix wouldn't work well. Still, It news having another burton/depp/bonham carter mash up.

    I'm really excite about chronicle, though the teen aspect of it may let it down.

  4. yep, CHRONICLE might be difficult to watch if, like me, you don't like the superificial and lazy behaviour of some of today's teens. Kids raised on JACK ASS, MTV, Tarantino and similar irresponsible crap...

  5. Chronicle looks like an interesting movie. But yea I agree with your point Dez I dont like the movies that portray the typical lazy teen

  6. hopefully the film gets serious towards the end and those kids get enlightened or something. Hope it has some depth in the end.

  7. Why do you say it's a bad thing that Robert Downy Jr. may be playing the role of Gepetto? I really like that actor.

  8. Amo Tim Burton.
    foi tema do meu TCC...
    adorei as dicas,

  9. we tend not to like and support arrogant actors here at HOLLYWOOD SPY :) and the ones who have unexemplary private lives as well. Not judging, just not supporting :)
    And he tends to do all his roles superficialy and with not much respect towards the character, Sherlock being the latest example. I really wouldn't want to see a boozed up Gepetto or something.

  11. omg I'm going to start thinking any RDJ comment from here on out is an effort to get a rise out of me. LOL.

    I was really looking forward to a Maleficent movie and Tim Burton could have done some pretty cool things, but Angelina Jolie as the lead? This makes me sad.

    ReplyDelete
  12. UGH. Please spare me the sight of AJ ruining another movie. And a remake of Pinocchio? *sigh* Try again, Hollywood. Even RDJ couldn't get me interested in that.

    Angelina didn't sign up for the role, since it is in prepreprepreproduction :) so she might not get it in the end. She seems to bring doom to most of the big projects she get attached too (Cleopatra, Catherine the Great, just to name a few of them which were announced with her and never made in the end).

    @B
    yep, not much originality in Tinseltown :)

  14. I think a RDB/Burton collaboration could work. And while Maleficent wouldn't be my ideal role for Jolie, i would rather she do that then another biopic.

    And Chronicle seems like it might be interesting. From the trailer the character seem rather unlikable, but that can work for certain movies. And i'm assuming the teens will learn not to misuse there powers by the end

  15. it's true, she needs something big and fantasy oriented.

  16. "Monument Men" sounds like it has real potential. Of course, I love George Clooney. Even if he did make "Men Who Stare at Goats." I forgive him.

    ReplyDelete
  17. he he... I just hope he won't ruin the film, like he did it to another WW2 film GOOD GERMAN. Cate Blanchett was amazing in it, but Clooney was superficial in that role.

  18. Another friggin Disney film with real people, yeah I know been done to death with real people already. That's all Burton seems able to do anymore. Either make the same old crap with Depp or some rip off of a book/other movie or a combination of both. Dumb!

  19. Dezzy - Chronicle: mmmmm, I don't know. I understand the need to explore the darker side, but that doesn't mean I have to watch it or like it. I'm hoping it's more 1 chooses bad while the others choose good. Those are my kinds of stories. We'll see.

  20. What's wrong with Robert Downey Jr.? :( I like him.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Out of all of these, Monuments Men is likely the only one I would see. The story is intersting and important. Clooney has done some good work as he's gotten older. Chronicles just isn't my cuppa.

  22. What would happen if Pinocchio said "my nose will grow"

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love Robert Downey Jr. True, he had a wild past (he's not alone in that!), but he's very charismatic and funny. Not sure about him and Burton together, could be weird, but we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Y'know, even as a kid I never really cared for PINOCCHIO, so the movie doesn't interest me at all. Neither does Chronicles.

    ReplyDelete
  25. wow. chronicle. that moment hits you like a punch in the gut, huh? could be interesting, could be awful... at least it's got some originality...

    i love tim burton, based on his earlier work. but lately... a least it's not johnny or helena, but he had to pick the next over-appreciated actor, huh? why not a fresh face? i like the concept, i love burton's art, but casting... casting has really been an issue for him lately... and losing the story amongst the art. (all that said, he is still a mastermind) i do love the idea of gepetto's story, though!
    the jessica biel movie premise sounds quirky and odd, and it could be really interesting, but i've found her to be boring to watch in movies. she's so very beautiful, but her acting... not my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Not too interested in any of these. Jessica's movie sounds okay, just quirky and strange enough to appeal to me. You always have the lowdown, my dear. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Pinocchio + Burton = Huge potential to be ridiculously awesome/creepy!!! Really cool idea!

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Pat
    maybe it would be a good idea for him to take a few years of rest, until his originality comes back :)

    @Shells
    we shall keep our fingers crossed, I heard it gets deeper towards the end. I love that young Dane DeHaan actor, very charismatic and pleasing to the eye

  29. @DWei
    I've explained it in one of the comments above :)

    @Anne
    yep, films with historical setting rarely go wrong, and even when they are bad at least we have something to look at when it comes to sets.

    @JDC
    I've no idea

    I think that as an ex sherrif you should arrest him, not love him :PPPP I don't like when bad people are made into stars, it's never a good role model for the young. If somebody who used drugs and alchocol and has no real talent is famous, what kind of message that is for the other people?

    @Flixy
    I agree with you, Flixy

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Vics
    yes, he surrounds himself with the same people and always has the same or similar casting. I agree with you on Jessica. Lovely, but mostly boring

    @Melsy
    glad you like the lowdown :) Tonight I'm bringing something period and historical, with lots of lovely costumes we are having a PERIOD TUESDAY :)

    @Armada
    glad you like it

  32. I think if I asked my kid if he's ever watched or heard of PINOCCHIO, he'd say no. And he's 16. So, I think a remake is in order.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Tim Burton and Pinocchio? Yes please.

    ReplyDelete
  34. chronicle and truth about fish seems to be real interesting plot... thanks for sharing this ...

  35. Tim Burton and Pinnochio? sign me up!!

    Happy Monday Dezzy

  36. I think I OD'd on Jessica Biel from her days on Seventh Heaven...my daughter was addicted to that show. George Clooney, on the other hand...

    ReplyDelete
  37. cant wait tim burton sounds perfect for it

  38. @Clarissa
    ah, you should've read the story to him when he was a kid :) It's sad how today's kids are growing up with bad cartoons and violent computer games instead with fairy tales and wise stories

    @Rgers
    glad you like that piece of news :)

  39. @Flying

    I liked SEVENTH HEAVEN as a teen ;) It was nice at moments and very warm and calming, especially before going to sleep :) But my favourite was the middle daughter who later on became a priest (which I didn;t like :)

  41. Chronicle actually looks all right. I too am not a fan of the hand held camera effect, but this looks ok.

    ReplyDelete
  42. not sure we will be able to watch an hour and a half or even more of a material shot on a hand held camera.

    ReplyDelete
  43. CHRONICLE sounds interesting, but just thinking about the handheld camera action is making my stomach churn.
