EPIC FRIDAY: NEW "JOAN OF ARC" HISTORICAL TV SHOW! "HITLERLAND" TV SERIES! "SAVING GENERAL YANG" SPECTACULAR EPIC TRAILER!

I really do love the avalanche of new epic shows which is about to hit us in next two years: from DA VINCI'S DEMONS and BLACK SAILS to

WOLF HALL, WHITE QUEEN, OUTLANDER, CROSSBONES, MARCO POLO to VLAD DRACULA and THE CLAN. And the new one of the list is JOAN OF ARC! According to "The Hollywood Reporter" Craig Pearce (the amazing scribe who wrote MOULIN ROUGE and ROMEO AND JULIET for Baz Luhrmann) is going to pen the new historical TV series with Freemantle Media. The adaptation of Kimberly Cutter's bestseller THE MAID, will follow a young peasant girl who believes she is sent by God to save France and will tell the final years of the Hundred Years' War by chronicling them from Joan's perspective as well as the international noble houses which battled for control of the French throne and ultimately the birth of a nation. The show will be an international one similarly to all other epic

shows above. It is interesting that Richard Taylor, the head of famous Weta Workshop and also the costume designer for THE HOBBIT saga, will produce the show. He will use all his skills learned while working with Peter Jackson to produce JOAN OF ARC series over at New Zealand.

HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES

On the other hand, Freemantle media is also preparing to make a TV series out of another bestseller: Andrew Nagorski's novel HITLERLAND will also hit small screens taking viewers back to the 1920’s and 1930’s during Hitler and his Nazi’s fateful rise to power. The story is told from

 the perspective of Americans — diplomats, military, expats, visiting authors, Olympic athletes — who watched horrified and up close. While the book is non-fiction, and told through a series of personal testimonies that were drawn from unpublished manuscripts, uncovered in relevant archives, and conducted useful interviews, the television series will bring the stories into the fictional world to depict the events surrounding this torrid time. The series will show how Berlin of that age went from being the hip place and the centre of everything avant-garde and modern to becoming the centre of the biggest evil in history. HITLERLAND will be a tale of power, political intrigue, and regret. This look back on tragedy will aim to be a lesson in history and why it is important not to repeat past mistakes. It will also be a worldwide project.

SAVING GENERAL YANG

And to finish the glorious day when it comes to historical projects in epic style, here is the long awaited trailer for one of next year's most

 anticipated Asian films - Hong Kong's $20 million historical action SAVING GENERAL YANG.  I've already announced the film back in 2011. The story of the Yang's has been eulogized for hundreds of years in the Chinese society. The story of the film details the exploits of the Yang military family, recounting the unflinching loyalty of the Yang family heirs. The plot places focus on how the seven sons of the Yang family held hands in the rescue of their father. General Yangis played by Adam Cheng while his sons are played by Ekin Cheng, Raymond Lam, Chun Wu, Vic Chow, Chen Li, Bo Yu and Xin Bo Fu, and Fan Xu plays Yang's wife.

MODERN DAY "ZORRO" TV SERIES! "SMURFS 2" TRAILER WITH NEIL PATRICK HARRIS, CHRISTINA RICCIE, KATY PERRY! TRIP TO HELL IN "HELLFIELD" ACTION FILM! "DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE" MOVIE ADAPTATION

It seems we are getting yet another ZORRO project. "Variety" writes about USA Network preparing modern update of the legend titled simply Z. The show would be set in contemporary Los Angeles and would follow

 Diego Moreno as he rises from humble origins as an orphaned teen to become an infamous masked hero. HOLLYWOOD SPY has reported before that a sf movie ZORRO REBORN is also in works with Gael Garcia Bernal. In the updated movie version, the Mexican hero will be set into a post apocalyptic era where the masked vigilante will seek revenge in a futuristic wasteland. The funny thing is that Sony is also planning to adapt Isabella Allende's novel which reveals the history behind the legendary masked man, from being born as a son of an aristocratic Spanish military man turned landowner and a Shoshone female warrior, and growing up as a witness of the brutal injustices dealt to Native Americans by European settlers, to being a student in Napoleonic Spain, and fighting pirates at the sea.

You know that you can always count on Hollywood to come up with an original idea, yes? Or maybe not? What do you think about this one: "The Hollywood Reporter" says that Paramount is preparing super

natural action flick HELLFIELD. The crazy plot of the action film will follow a group of criminals, who take a trip to Hell to stop an apocalyptic event from destroying the universe. I wonder which politician gave them the directions? Meanwhile, Universal has hired ALICE IN WONDERLAND's producer Joe Roth to produce film adaptation of DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE bestseller from Laini Taylor which tells the tale of a 17-year-old art student whose father occasionally sends her on errands around the world, collecting human teeth for a mysterious purpose. The young woman gradually becomes aware that she is part of ancient struggle between devils and angels and finds herself in a forbidden romance with a warrior angel.Oh, puhlease!

SMURFS 2 TRAILER

And I know that you will be smurfiliciously happy when you hear that your clip for today is the first trailer for charming adventure SMURFS 2 which should

continue where the smash hit from 2011 stopped next July. The evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties (Christina Riccie) that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. TRAILER FOR SAM WORTHINGTON'S "DRIFT"! EDDIE REDMAYNE JOINS CHANNING TATUM & MILA KUNIS IN SF EPIC "JUPITER ASCENDING"! VIN DIESEL IS THE NEW "KOJAK"!

 Good news, people, good news. HOLLYWOOD SPY's favourite Eddie Redmayne has joined sf movie JUPITER ASCENDING. To be directed by MATRIX and CLOUD ATLAS helmers Andy and Lana Wachovski,

 the movie will have a story set in a future where humans are considered the lowest form of life in the galaxy. Channing Tatum is going to play an intergalactic bounty hunter who is sent by the Queen of the Universe to kill an Earth woman (Mila Kunis) whose genetic traits are identical to the Queen's. The plot thickens when the would-be assassin falls for his target. It is not known whom will Redmayne play. Rising star Eddie Redmayne has first shined in PILLARS OF THE EARTH, then he gave a stellar performance in BBC's BIRDSONG and in MY WEEK WITH MARYLIN, and later this month you will watch him in LES MISERABLES. He's also become a name which often appears at auditions and test shootings for the upcoming blockbusters.

Over the time we've got used to hearing weird things coming from Tinseltown, so this one shouldn't really surprise you: following the unexplainable trend of making remakes Universal has decided to do a

new version of KOJAK! And guess what? They've hired Vin Diesel to play the lead role. SKYFALL, CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are writing the screenplay! As "Deadline" reports the KOJAK TV series was popular back in the 70's with Telly Savalas as bald New York City Police Department Detective Lieutenant Theo Kojak. He was known for his signature lollipop, and was a proud Greek American who often celebrated his heritage. This version will be re-imagined in a modern-day setting and will obviously not have a Greek in the lead role :). You already know that Vin Diesel will next be seen in THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS with Luke Evans and then in RIDDICK sf epic.

The only trailer I have for you today looks rather boring, but at least you can enjoy shirtless Sam Worthington in it :) His role here is rather different from the

 epic ones we've seen him in before in AVATAR and CLASH OF THE TITANS. DRIFT is a surfer movie which comes to theatres sometime next year and is set in breathtaking locations and inspired by the true story of Australia's legendary surf wear moguls. The film chronicles the rise of the world's premiere action sport and the expansion of the laid back surf attitude as a global lifestyle. A story of passion and corruption, friendship and loyalty, deadly addictions and fractured relationship.

You've probably noticed that the story about ROMEO AND JULIET is trendy again in Hollywood so it's no surprise that ABC Family is preparing

 paranormal version of it. It will be a television adaptation of Stacey Jay's novel JULIET IMMORTAL. In the novel, according to "The Hollywood Reporter" Juliet was murdered by her new husband, Romeo, as a sacrifice to ensure his immortality. What he didn't anticipate, however, is that Juliet would be granted eternity and spend her days fighting her former beloved to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. It is interesting that the same network is preparing another love story - TV show out of Nicholas Sparks THE FALLS which is a modern re-imagining of Romeo and Juliet!

 first nine minutes of the film have been showing in front of screenings of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" (which is breaking records currently with more than $200 million earned worldwide in only few

 days) since December 13. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for,

leaving  our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships

 Everybody's favourite Hollywood hunk Ryan Reynolds keeps adding different roles to his CV. The new one is in QUEEN OF THE NIGHT.

To be directed by Atom Egoyan over in Canada and with Scott Speedman also in the cast, the psychological thriller will tell the story of a father who goes in search of his missing daughter. The young girl was eight at the time of her abduction, but the father is given new information about the case nearly nine years later, which leads him to think the now 17-year old is still alive. "Deadline" reports that Mireille Enos is due to play the wife of Ryan Reynolds character, who checks in with the police once a year in regards to her missing daughter, on her birthday. She comes to discover that disturbing memorabilia left at her workplace is actually clues leading to her daughter's whereabouts.

Last week I informed you that there will be a movie adaptation of Stephen King's MERCY and now, according to "Variety", the film has found new cast member:

after AMERICAN HORROR STORY Dylan McDermott will return to the horror genre in this story which revolves around two young brothers (Joel Courtney and THE WALKING DEAD's Chandler Riggs) who discover that their grandmother is actually an evil witch. It's not known whom will Dylan McDermott play but we do know that Frances O'Connor will appear as the boys' mother. Speaking of THE WALKING DEAD, Jon Berhthal has joined GRUDGE MATCH, a comedy about two retired boxers (Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone) who step back into the ring to settle an old score. Jon Bernthal plays the estranged son of Robert De Niro's character, who feels conflicted about training his father.

One of the films which stirred the audience around the world and touched many movie critics at film festivals this year, THE IMPO- SSIBLE, is finally ready to open up in Northern American cinemas

 December 21st after it already premiered in Spain, Serbia and Canada earlier this Autumn. The shocking story is based on a tragic event which hit an unfortunate family when back in 2004 disastrous tsunami destroyed South Asia becoming the biggest natural disaster in history with the death toll of shocking 250,000 people! Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, whom you remember as the helmer of THE ORPHANAGE, the film stars Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts, Geraldine Chaplin and young Tom

THE IMPOSSIBLE STORY

In the epic drama Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts star as a family caught in the tsunami that hit Thailand seven years ago: Maria, Henry and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking forward to a few days in tropical paradise. But on the morning of December 26th, as the family relaxes around the pool after their Christmas festivities, a terrifying roar rises up from the center of the earth. As Maria freezes in fear, a huge wall of black water races across the hotel grounds toward her.

Henry grabs the two youngest boys, but it’s too late: the wave smashes into him with incredible force and dislodges his grip. Maria is pushed underwater, where she is crushed and battered by debris to the brink of death. She finally surfaces in a raging black sea, which has completely submerged her three-story hotel and the surrounding landscape. THE IMPOSSIBLE TITBITS

Speaking for a magazine, Naomi Watts has revealed that she escaped death and nearly drowned at the sets of the film  when a wall of water came over her while she was strapped to a chair. While they were shooting in a water tank they weren't really acting, they were really scared and terrified! After its premiere over in Spain, THE IMPOSSIBLE surpassed the unbeatable AVATAR in earnings becoming the biggest movie hit at the Pyrenean Peninsula! It earned its budget of about 30 million euro only from the

 showings in Spain! It is interesting that Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts already played together as a couple in brilliant drama STAY back in 2005. Most of the extras from the film are the actual survivors of the infamous Tsunami which devastated South East Asia and served as the basis for the film. It is also interesting that Ewan and Naomi met their real life counterparts - the family that survived the actual tsunami and on which this movie is based, earlier this year at Toronto film festival! The film is a huge Oscar contender!

Deadline reports that Emily Blunt might join Johnny Depp in TRANSCENDENCE in which they would play a pair of scientists who are trying to create the world's first sentient machine. When Depp is

 murdered by extremists, Emily's character proceeds to upload his brain into a super computer. Blunt will also join Tom Cruise in ALL YOU NEED IS KILL sf epic about a soldier who is reborn every time he dies in battle and has to relive his death constantly. Emily has just been nominated for a Golden Globe in Best actress category in a comedy or musical for her role in SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN alongside her parther Ewan McGregor! Speaking of Globes it will be very interesting watching the red carpet on January 13th since among the nominated in different categories we also have Helen Mirren, Rachel Weisz, Bradley Cooper, Hugh Jackman,

You already know that HOLLYWOOD SPY loves ensemble dramas!  One of them just announced its stellar cast: PARTS PER BILLION will bring the story of three couples dealing with the same reality shaking event that threatens to tear them apart. Scheduled for 2014 the film will have GOSSIP GIRL's Penn Badgley, Teresa Palmer, GILMORE GIRLS' Alexis Bledel, Rosario Dawson, Josh Hartnett and two acting legends Frank Langella and Gena Rowlands in the cast. And, some eyecandy for my ladies today: young TEEN WOLF hunk Colton Haynes will join CW's superhero show ARROW where he will play Roy Harper. In DC's comics Harper has been known as Arrow's (Stephen Amell) sidekick Speedy, and also as Red Arrow and Arsenal and an ex Justice League

member. But within the show he will be a handsome, street-savvy teenager from the Glades, the harsh, poverty-stricken portion of Starling City who will fall in love with Arrow's younger sister.

GI JOE RETALIATION CLIP

As you probably remember action adventure G.I. JOE: RETALIATION was postponed earlier this year to undergo 3D conversion (and gossips say to add more scenes with Channing 

Tatum who has, in the meantime, become a major star with blockbuster hits) and it will finally open in cinemas next march. Today you can check out third, brand new, trailer filled with action scenes for the film with Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Ray Park ... The third sequel in the famous franchise brings a new villain - Cobra spy Zartan, who has most of the Joes assassinated so the remaining Joes have to band together to strike back. Bruce Willis appears as the original Joe and Dwayne Johnson joins the stellar cast.

 We had two huge premieres this week - THE HOBBIT (pictures below) and LES MISERABLES in New York, and HOLLYWOOD SPY is going to take you to the red carpets of the two events if you haven't already seen the celebrity outfits shown there. LES MISERABLES had its premiere on Monday in New York and in the focus of attention was Anne Hathaway in her rather bold bondage-style heels which caught everyone's eye! I kinda liked the Tom Ford shoes, but I'm not sure they match the black gown also designed by Ford. The general consensus is that Anne just isn't sexy enough to pull out such elaborately hot shoes. But she had a shocking moment while getting out of her limo when she arrived at the premiere since she accidentally showed her vagina to the paparazzi! She obviously forgot to put on some underwear :) Lovely Amanda Seyfried, who plays Cosette in the film, also wore black but she added a golden Alexander McQueen top looking sparkly and romantic. Young Eddie Redmayne looked dashing & charismatic

as always in his dark blue Alexander McQueen suit, while Hugh Jackman was equally handsome in his black suit. Hugh is a huge candidate for next year's Oscars.

 another film classic being turned into TV series: "Variety" writes about DEATH BECOMES HER becoming being adapted into a TV show for Bravo. The film starred Bruce Willis with Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as two women who attain eternal youth. Robert Zemeckis who helmed the film will produce the show.

 Guillermo del Toro sf action which you will watch July next year. Starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, Clifton Collins Jr., Robert Maillet, Rinko Kikuchi... the movie follows legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, who started rising from the sea, and a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. And guess what? There's another second trailer for you - this one for THE LONE RANGER. The first one wasn't all that successful and

most people forgot that the film is hitting cinemas next summer. Maybe the second trailer is better? Starring Armie Hammer, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (you are shocked, yes?), and directed by Gore Verbinski, the Lone Ranger's origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto, who nurses him back to health. The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice.

LAVISH TRAILER FOR JET LI'S "THE SORCERER AND THE WHITE SNAKE" EPIC FANTASY! NEW SF SHOWS "HORIZON" & "HUMAN ERROR"! "TIPPING POINT" & "DOG STARS" SCIENCE FICTION MOVIES

According to "The Hollywood Reporter" USA Network has hired THE WALKING DEAD's Gale Anne Hurd to produce an unusual sf show. Titled HORIZON it will be set during the height of World War II and will centre on a secretary at the FBI who discovers that her husband might have been killed in a battle with a spaceship in the South Pacific. Obsessed with learning the truth, she becomes the only person standing between Earth and an alien invasion!

Meanwhile, STARZ is continuing with the development of their own scripted shows (they're preparing historical epics DA VINCI'S DEMONS, BLACK SAILS and THE WHITE QUEEN, alongside sf INCURSION) with new futuristic cop show: HUMAN ERROR will be set in the near future where artificial humans known as “synthetics" are being phased into the civilian sector. A veteran human detective is paired with one such synth and is tasked with a seemingly simple case that ultimately leads to a larger conspiracy.

Since futuristic projects are trendy right now, Relativity Media is preparing TIPPING POINT a tense, riveting sci-fi thriller that paints an ominous picture of the world 100 years into the future. With the world's population approaching 10 billion, the penalty for having children without a

license is death - no questions, no excuses, and no mercy. Ruthless Population Control Officer Solomon Cage lives only for his job, until the day he discovers two fugitives he's been pursuing are the love of his life who mysteriously disappeared years ago and the 12-year-old son he never knew he had.  Yet another post apocalyptic project to hit the big screens will be a movie adaptation of DOG STARS, a novel by Peter Heller (named one of the best ones this year by Amazon) which is set years after a flu virus has taken most of mankind off the map and centres on a man who lives in the hangar of an abandoned airport with his dog. When he hears a radio transmission, he sets out, finding that things are both better and worse out there.

I have a gorgeous trailer for you today. I introduced you to fantasy epic THE SORCERER AND THE WHITE SNAKE back in 2011 when it was released in China, but it hits cinemas in USA next February and you can check out beautiful new clip for it. disguised as a woman. Jet Li stars as a sorcerer who discovers her true identity and battles to save the man’s soul. The film also stars Shengyi Huang as the White Snake, Raymond Lam and Charlene Choi as

the Green Snake. Jet Li said that he accepted the role after being convinced that he won't have a lot of action scenes, but it proved

otherwise: it was his most tiring role to date because he had to hold back every punch against his opponents (mostly women with no martial art background) while they went all out on him.
