HBO has released today a trailer and poster for their May 20th television movie THE WIZARD OF LIES in which Robert De Niro plays ruthless Bernie Madoff who came up with the infamous Ponzi scheme that broke the world's economy. In 2008, stockbroker, investment advisor and financier Bernie Madoff made headlines around the world when he was arrested for perpetrating perhaps the largest financial fraud in U.S. history. Michelle Pfeiffer plays his wife Ruth, looking older than ever in the role, while Alessandro Nivola plays one of their sons. Hank Azaria is also a part of the TV movie cast. Barry Levinson was behind the helm.

There's also a trailer and poster for August 2017 movie OVERDRIVE which follows two car thieves, brothers, Andrew and Garrett Foster (Scott Eastwood and Freddie Thorp) who specialize only in the most expensive cars. They've been hired to steal a gorgeous Bugatti 1937 valued million Euro, so they head to the south of France for the job. But they get caught, and Jacomo Morier (Simon Abkarian), the local crime boss who owns the Bugatti, doesn't take it lightly. In exchange for their lives the two brothers will have to steal a car from Max Klemp (Fabian Wolfrom), Morier's arch-rival, and not any car, Morier wants them to steal Klemp's 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, his most prized car.

In the news from the YA front, Netflix will team up with teen star, music star and ex Disney star Selena Gomez on the series adaptation of Jay Asher's bestselling novel THIRTEEN REASONS WHY! Pulitzer Prize winner Brian Yorkey has written the series for Netflix titled simply THIRTEEN REASONS and in it the story explores the tragic suicide of a lonely high school student named Hannah Baker (Selena Gomez). It explores Hannah's past through tapes she sent to classmates explaining how they contributed to her misery.

'SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA' NOVEL
Meanwhile, another YA book to get a movie adaptation is debut novel by Becky Albertelli SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA The novel, which is being translated into 19 languages, focuses on Simon Spier, a 16 year-old not so openly gay student. When an email written by Simon falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being made public. CBS has released the first, rather long, trailer for their upcoming new TV series SUPERGIRL which will see young Melissa Benoist playing the super heroine on  Monday nights this November! She plays the Kryptonian refugee Kara Zor-El, who decides to embrace her powers after a lifetime of hiding on earth under the name Kara Danvers. Kara's civilian life includes working for the demanding Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) at the media conglomerate CatCo along with photographer Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks). The journey for Kara to become SUPERGIRL will see her cross paths with Toyman (Jeremy Jordan), the alien convict Vartox (Owain Yeoman) and secretive government agent Hank Henshaw (David Harewood).

ITV ORDERS 'JERICHO'

19TH CENTURY TV SERIES
And I have a bunch of TV news coming from UK, starting with ITV ordering JERICHO historical series! Set in the 1870s, it will focus on the shantytown of Jericho, home to a community that will live, thrive and die in the shadow of the viaduct they’ve been brought together to build. Pioneers, settlers and outcasts, they include people with secrets to hide and those looking to start again. One of the central characters is Annie Quaintain (Jessica Raine), who refuses to let tragedy define her. After being disgraced by her husband, she arrives in JERICHO with her two children; there she meets Ralph Coates (Clarke Peters), a self-styled railway agent skilled at reading people. She also encounters Johnny Jackson (Hans Matheson), also new to Jericho.
BBC TO ADAPT 'PLACE OF GREATER SAFETY' INTO EPIC SERIES
Meanwhile, after rather bland and uninspired WOLF HALL BBC is going to adapt Hilary Mantel's A PLACE OF GREATER SAFETY too into TV series. RIPPER STREET creator Richard Warlow will adapt the 18th century story based on Georges Danton, Camille Desmoulins and Maximilien Robespierre's involvement in the French Revolution.
