You probably remember that back in 2022, your trusted spy informed you that Kevin Spacey was cast in this one but was later replaced by Ray Stevenson due to sexual assault charges that  were brought against him. A year after that Spacey was proclaimed innocent and in May 2023, Stevenson died during post-production which makes this his final film appearance. After all those problems epic historical movie adventure 1242: GATEWAY TO THE WEST, a co production between Hungary and Mongolia, is ready to hit cinemas in May next year and today I have the first posters, character photos and a trailer for you. The movie, which depicts Mongolian invasion into Europe stopped by a castle in Hungary, features an ensemble international cast that includes young Jeremy Neumark Jones, Neil Stuke, Bold Choimbol, Genevieve Chenneour, next  to the well knownaction movie stars from a few decades ago Michael Ironside, Eric Roberts, David Schofield, and Ray Stevenson!

 

WHAT IS THE STORY ABOUT? 

When the Kingdom of Hungary's army was annihilated by the Mongols at the battle of Mohi, only the castle of Esztergom now stood in the Mongolians' way of invading the rest of Europe. Khan Batu (Bold Choimbol), the grandson of Genghis Khan, reaches the walls of Esztergom with his invincible troops. The castle's defenders, led by Eusebius (Jeremy Neumark Jones), the Canon of Esztergom, and a Spanish mercenary, Captain Simon (Neil Stuke), are preparing for the final battle. The sudden arrival of Cardinal Cesareani (Ray Stevenson), the Papal Legate, coinciding with the Mongol Lunar New Year celebrations and the mystical practices of Eusebius, combine to offer the defenders a small glimmer of hope.

The film tells the story of Genghis Khan’s grandson Batu Khan, who was elected commander in chief of the western part of the Mongol empire. There is also an American action thriller movie THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME which should get a release sometime later this year starring action stars from the previous decades Casper Van Dien, Tom Berenger, Bruce Dern and Judd Nelson alongside Christopher Tamburello in the lead role. The movie is both directed and written by Justin Lee. Here is the official plot and also a rather well done poster: A father and son are shipwrecked on a remote island where they are caught up in a trophy hunt held by its mysterious owner, a merciless man who uses the land as an elite hunting preserve for stalking the most dangerous game of all: human.

I think we actually had one or two historical movies coming from Mongolia before here at the spy's but here is another one: THE WRESTLING PRINCESS also known as Princess Khutulun should be completed according to my humble knowledge (it is not like I have actual spies over in Mongolia) sometime later this year, but we, believe it or not, already have a rather nice trailer for this historical action adventure movie. It is a feature film based on the true story of the legendary Princess Khutulun of Mongolia, known in history as the “wrestling princess”, a descendant of Genghis Khaan. You probably remember princess Khutulun from Marco Polo epic series which streamed on Netflix last decade.

anything Mongolian so now would be the perfect time as they are currently preparing a new historical movie LEGENDS OF THE OLONKHO LAND and the trailer looks quite good. The story is set a long, long time ago, in far, far Yakutia, where courageous warriors go to the Lower World to save the beautiful Aikuo. What obstacles will our heroes face? Who is true – humans or demons? This time, things may turn out differently from the ancient legends. Anything is possible, because the boundless North is as unpredictable and mysterious as it is cold and harsh. It is interesting that most of the creative crew of this film are ladies from Russia, from director to art and cinematography directors, producer and composer.
