Well, I did not expect our darling chap Tom Riley will be seeking another series even before we've seen him playing a fashion designer in Amazon's THE COLLECTION fashion empire period set drama which airs sometime later this year, but he has just been announced as the lead star of British ITV's new two hour pilot for possible new series WAGSTAFFE directed by Colin Teague.

Based on the books by crime author Adam Creed, the character driven dark drama WAGSTAFFE centres on the life and work of Will Wagstaffe (Tom Riley) — a London detective who has suffered terrible personal tragedy with the murder of his parents and his team.

Now here it is, Netflix certainly did wait a very long time to show us the first trailer for the second season of their terribly expensive and not so great MARCO POLO epic series which will get all of its ten new episodes available for viewing around the world on July 1st!

The famed explorer MARCO POLO (Lorenzo Richelmy) has now become a trusted part of the Middle Kingdom ruler Kublai Khan's 13th Century court after saving his life in the first season. In season 2, Khan’s expanding empire makes him vulnerable in his oversee of the throne as he is faced by a challenger.

We haven't really heard much about Netflix' extremely expensive historical series MARCO POLO ever since it ended its first season with mild reviews and general verdict of it being uninspired and monotonous, but we knew it will be getting second season since it cost $100 million to make.

Now, we hear that Michelle Yeoh is joining the cast! In the story of the famed 13th century explorer Marco Polo (Lorenzo Richelmy), and his adventures, as he fights greed, betrayal and rivalries in Kublai Khan’s cour,t Michelle Yeoh will play a mysterious figure from Hundred Eyes’ (Tom Wu) past. As you know, the series already has another Asian diva Joan Chen as Empress Chabi! I've announced before that Ron Yuan will join as well as Prince Nayan!

The latest one to join BBC Films big screen adaptation of famous Arthur Ransome children classic SWALLOWS AND AMAZONS is GAME OF THRONES and STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS star Gwendoline Christie! As 'Deadline' reports she joins Rafe Spall, Kelly Macdonald, Andrew Scott, Harry Enfield and Jessica Hynes in the film, which revolves around four children in 1929 on holiday with their mother in the Lake District. They are allowed to sail over to the nearby island in their boat Swallow and set up camp for a few days, but soon realize this has been the territory of two other girls who sail the Amazon, and the scene is set for serious rivalry.

Meanwhile, in today's television news, last winter's Netflix hit series MARCO POLO is, as you know, preparing their second season and they already have a new cast member: FAST AND FURIOUS star Ron Yuan will play Prince Nayan in the second run of the epic series which follow’s MARCO POLO ’s (Lorenzo Richelmy) adventures, as he fights greed, betrayal and rivalries in Kublai Khan’s court. As you remember, the first season of the extremely expensive series has ended with Marco and the Mongols taking over Chinese court! Ron Yuan will also appear in INDEPENDENCE DAY II.

Deadline also reports that Paramount is about to buy a six figure high movie rights on bestselling children novel GREENGLASS HOUSE from Kate Milford with plans to turn it into a possible movie franchise which will follow a 12-year-old innkeeper’s adopted son Milo who realizes that guests checking into his father’s inn all have a connection to the house. Milo’s home/inn soon becomes populated with mysterious guests each one with stories stranger than the next — and all connected to the old house. Years ago I told you that Paramount will team up with China Film Group to produce a lavish new big screen version of MARCO POLO and now the production is on the way with the casting of Hayden Christensen in the lead role! As 'Hollywood Reporter' writes today, Rob Cohen will direct the fantasy action movie on the Venetian merchant who embarked on a 24-year journey into China in the 13th century. His adventures later were chronicled in a book that is widely considered to be the introduction of Chinese culture to Europeans. As you know Netflix has made a show on him last winter with the second season under production too.

Titled FORTY THIEVES it is currently screen testing Liam Hemsworth, DOWNTON ABBEY'S Dan Stevens and Evan Peters (X MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST) for the lead role in the epic adventure movie with strong comedic undertones! Liam Hemsworth was mentioned for the role a few years ago too when the project was called ARABIAN NIGHTS and was supposed to star Anthony Hopkins as well, but now the studio is planning the film as just a part of a possible seven movie franchise which would follow famous 1001 ARABIAN NIGHTS stories! According to the latest rumours from Hollywood, DOWNTON ABBEY star Dan Stevens is currently the main contender for the lead role in the remake of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK!
