British Broadcaster BBC One has released first images and a trailer for their new psychological thriller TV series THE RAPTURE adapted from Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel. The five parter is a high-stakes thriller which crackles with danger. Set in a heatwave, with protestors on the streets, forensic psychologist Gabs Fox (Ruth Madeley) starts a new job at a high-security psychiatric hospital where she meets 17-year-old Bethany Krall (India Amarteifio). Bethany was convicted of murdering her mother but claims she is innocent. She is estranged from her father Leonard (Sam Hazeldine), who is the charismatic leader of an influential religiousmovement. Bethany tells Gabs that she has psychic powers and can predict the future - but what will it take for Gabs to believe her? And if Bethany didn’t kill her mother, then who did? The cast also includes Iwan Rheon, Stephen Campbell Moore, Lisa Palfrey, Siena Kelly, Naby Dakhli, Richard Elis, Dean Rehman, Robert Rhodes and Ruth Jones.

Anthony Hopkins stars as Emperor Vaspasian during the height of the Roman Empire when the population - bored, restless, and increasingly violent - is kept in line mainly by two things: free food and spectacular entertainment, in the form of chariot racing and gladiator fights. The races at Circus Maximus are controlled by four Patrician-owned corporations, the Blue, Red, White, and Green factions, and shares in the four factions are the most valuable things in Rome. The large scale drama is set within the spectacular, complex and corrupt world of gladiatorial sports in Ancient Rome introducing diverse characters across the many layers of Roman society where sports, politics and business intersect and collide. Emperor Vespasian of Rome and head of the Flavian bloodline, is battle tested, a rural upstart who claimed his throne after victory in a bloody 10-year civil war. He is aging and is despised by the Patricians jockeying for position in the Empire and looking to supplant his heirs to the throne the first chance they get.

The drug quickly became one of the most controversial and profitable in history, reshaping how we talk about sexual and mental health in the process. In this fictionalised account, Meurig (Iwan Rheon) yearns for intimacy with his wife, Ffion (Alex Roach). He loves her with all his heart but feels trapped by his inability to rekindle the spark in their marriage. There’s Tommy (Paul Rhys), a gay man who desperately lies about his sexuality because the trial was set up for straight sex. Spurred on by his friend and clinical nurse Moira Davies (Joanna Page), how far will his lies go to find happiness? Colin (Steffan Rhodri) lives an isolated life with his crossword puzzles after his wife’s death. He thinks he’s found the one in Teresa (Lisa Palfrey), his phone pal from the Lonely Hearts column. After our spotlight on the Musketeers yesterday, we are staying in France today as well since Vincent Cassel, Louis Garrel and Diane Kruger have been cast in StudioCanal's SAINT EX period set drama movie. Set in 1930 it centres around Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, an Airmail pilot in Argentina. When his best friend who happens to be Airmail’s best pilot Henri Guillaumet disappears in the Andes, Saint-Ex decides to set out in search of him, against all odds. This impossible quest forces him to push beyond his limits, turning his capacity to dream into his greatest strength.

CineEuropa reports that Anne Fontaine has cast Raphael Personnaz, Vincent Perez and Jeanne Balibar in her biopic on Maurice Ravel titled BOLERO. Doria Tillier, Emmanuelle Devos, Suzanne Clement and Sophie Guillemin will also star. Netflix will stream the film that looks back at the origins of the Bolero, when it was nothing but a simple command made by choreographer Ida Rubinstein to Maurice Ravel. The latter obeys as if a kind of exercise. But as the composition advances the work takes on a wholly unexpected dimension, reminding the musician of his demons but also the wonders he has worked...

The latest news coming from Deadline today is that Charlie McDowell has cast Glenn Close in his movie adaptation of beloved Finnish classic book THE SUMMER BOOK by Tove Jannson. Released 50 years ago, it tells the life affirming story of a young girl and her grandmother as they spend a summer on a tiny, unspoiled island in the Gulf of Finland. The novel has been translated into 35 languages.

Two new series to announce today, starting with Prime Video which will do another series adaptation of John Wyndham's THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS. Johan Renck is set to direct the sf classic in which most people in the world are blinded by a meteor shower, and triffids, tall venomous, carnivorous plants, start killing the rest. The story centers on Bill Masen, a biologist who specializes in triffids. He leads survivors in their fight against the killer plants and at some point rescues a young sighted girl and travels with her for several days.

BBC has announced their work on a TV movie inspired by the true story of one of the world's first medical trials for the drug that became Viagra, held in Swansea’s Morriston Hospital in 1994. Out from January 27th in cinemas and two months later on the streamer, the film sees him depicted across four stages in his life by a quartet of Norwegian actors Alfred Ekker Strande, Mattis Herman Nyquist, Ola G. Furuseth and Anne Krigsvoll. The film opens with the story of Munch’s first love, before showing the controversy around one of his early exhibitions. Munch’s admission to a psychiatric clinic will also be covered, where he is forced to make the biggest decision of his life, before the film relates the artist’s battle to save his works from the Nazis during World War II as death draws near.
