Only some period set series for you today, people, starting with the report coming from 'Deadline' that AMC has ordered THE TERROR into ten episode series! Based on the bestselling novel by Dan Simmons it will air sometime in 2017! Ridley Scott will produce the series set in 1847, when a Royal Naval expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage is attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and their crews in a suspenseful and desperate game of survival. It is a fictionalized account of Captain Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror.

If you can't hardly wait for the second season of POLDARK to start at BBC this spring, here's something you can pass your time with: ITV will launch their new Julian Fellowes three part historical series DOCTOR THORNE this Sunday evening based on Anthony Throllope novel! 

IAN MCSHANE, TOM HOLLA- NDER LEAD THE CAST

Tom Hollander (Rev, A Poet In New York, Pirates of the Caribbean) takes the role of Dr Thomas Thorne, who lives in the village of Greshamsbury in Barsetshire with his young niece, Mary (Stefanie Martini), a girl blessed with every gift except money. Mary Thorne has grown up alongside the Gresham family, whose house, Greshamsbury Park, and status dominate the county. With Francis Gresham Senior (Richard McCabe) having frittered away the family fortune, however, his wife, Lady Arabella Gresham, played by Rebecca Front (War and Peace, Humans, Lewis, The Thick of It), their daughters Augusta (Gwyneth Keyworth) and Beatrice (Nell Barlow), and their handsome brother Frank (Harry Richardson) face losing their home. Ian McShane also stars.

TAKES THE LEAD ROLE IN 'NEST' SF MOVIE

As 'Deadline' reports super gorgeous Chinese star Li Bingbing (you remember her from sf movies TRANSFORMERS and RESIDENT EVIL, fantasy epic SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL, and historical drama SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN) has signed on to play the lead role in NEST,  which is being planned as the largest ever budgeted Chinese Australian coproduction. To be filmed in 3D, NEST tells the tale of a team of scientists who discover a swarm of deadly, intelligent and carnivorous funnel web spiders. Battling through an ancient labyrinth, the team must learn the secret behind the spiders’ heightened abilities before its too late.

Looks like we're again getting bored aristocrats from Julian Fellowes whose new series has just got its cast! Tom Hollander and Ian McShane will lead the cast of ITV's new period set three part drama DOCTOR THORNE based on Anthony Throllope novel which Weinstein Co. will distribute worldwide!

It will follow Dr Thomas Thorne (Tom Hollander), who lives with his penniless niece Mary (Stefanie Martini). When Lady Arabella Gresham (Rebecca Front) finds out that her son Frank (Harry Richardson) is in love with Mary, she is horrified and believes it is his duty to make a rich marriage to save their family estate - after her husband Francis Gresham Senior (Richard McCabe) has frittered away their fortune. Scheming with her sister-in-law (Phoebe Nicholls) and niece (Kate O'Flynn), Arabella targets wealthy American heiress Martha Dunstable (Alison Brie). Ian McShane is alcoholic railway millionaire Sir Roger Scatcherd, while Cressida Bonas is Mary's friend and confidante Patience Oriel.

A trailer for you to start this weekend: sf action starring the third of the Hemsworth brothers, the oldest Luke Hemsworth. INFINI stars him, Bren Foster and Grace Huang as soldiers sent on a mission to an off-world mining facility, seeking the mysterious Whit Carmichael (Daniel MacPherson). The soldiers soon find that a deadly alien virus is a far greater threat than Carmichael, who seems to have an aversion to the disease. The Australian sf thriller opens in USA theatres May 8th.

Good news for all you DOWNTON ABBEY fans: its creator Julian Fellowes will prepare a new, three part drama for British ITV which will be a small screen adaptation of the popular Victorian classic DOCTOR THORNE by Anthony Trollope. Funny enough, or not at all, the new series will also be set in a great country manor telling the story of Dr Thomas Thorne, who lives in the village of Greshamsbury with his beautiful niece, Mary, a girl blessed with every gift except money. She has grown up alongside the Gresham sisters and their handsome brother Frank, whose home is the great house and estate at Greshamsbury Park and who is in love with her.
