Earlier this year, I've informed you that Sam Worthington might star in "Dracula Year Zero", a movie to be directed by Alex Proyas ("The Crow", "I Robot"), and now it's official. According to "MovieWeb", the $100 million project will be the origin story of Vlad the Impaler, the Romanian royalty who terrorized his nation and inspired Bram Stoker to create his classic character, Dracula. The production will start in June 2011 in Australia.
Now, here's a crazy piece of news: Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy will star in the romantic comedy "Hysteria", centered on the invention of the vibrator in Victorian-era England. Hugh Dancy will be a doctor in London treating cases of hysteria, a condition said to be characterized at the time by a woman's irritability, anger or unexplained tears. He and his best friend (Rupert Everett) will experiment with a new electrical device for treatment for the ailment. Maggie Gyllenhaal will play the daughter of his colleague :))
Since they've chosen Andrew Garfield to play Peter Parker in the upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot, the producers are now auditioning girls for the main female character, Gwen Stacy. According to "Heat Vision" three lovely young actresses Emma Roberts ("Scream 4"), Teresa Palmer ("Mad Max Fury Road") and Imogen Poots ("Centurion") are top contenders for the role of Spidey's love interest.
I still think the reboot for those that have watched the Raimi's Spider-Man will be kind of boring because of the rehash factor. But I agree with Gwen Stacy idea, as this will change the direction a bit and it might be a fun way to remind people about the character.
ReplyDeletewell, to be honest, I personally found previous Spider-man films very boring, especially the one in which Alfred Molina was a villain. They never had good stories, just a huge mass of slow plot and special effects :) I probably won't watch the reboot because I really don't find myself intrigued at all by this Garfield guy, but if they hire stunning and charismatic Imogen Poots as Gwen maybe I'll give it a go :)
ReplyDeleteImogen Poots is the next bright young thing! :)
ReplyDeleteshe is, you must check her out in the Roman epic CENTURION, she is pretty breathtaking in it :)
ReplyDeleteOooo! Dracula Year Zero sounds awesome. Is there a schedule on that one?
ReplyDeleteAll really interesting stuff. Thanks! :)
I like Sam Worthington but I'm not sure about him as Vlad, though I will probably still watch. Hysteria sounds, well, hysterical. What a strange premise for a story.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the director can influence Worthington's acting. He'll have to learn to act and emote one of these days, though.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Hysteria sounds like it will be hysterical! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love me some Hugh Dancy. @Dez If you're also a fan of his and haven't seen a little flick called Adam, I'd recommend you Netflix it immediately.
ReplyDelete@Alex
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing Vlad didn't have an overly expressive face :) so Sam will feel like a fish in the sea.
@Phylly
LOL indeed :)
@Lil'Vics
I love me some Dancy too :) I think I've seen it, but I'm not sure.I still love him best in SLEEPING DICTIONARY :)
@Rosie
ReplyDeleteit says in the post that the shooting starts next summer :)
@Matt
well, as far as I got it, he won't be evil in the film, they will portray his younger years and how he became what he became.
Apparently I'm skimming too quickly! Ack. Sorry :/
ReplyDeleteI just got too excited! :)
ReplyDelete:)))) I aim to excite :))
ReplyDeleteYes! He was a doll indeed in Sleeping Dictionary (which I discovered by chance while browsing through his works after watching Daniel Deronda). Adam was the romantic dramedy where he plays the brilliant, autistic Adam who falls for his unlucky-in-love neighbor. Absolutely adorable.
ReplyDeleteLast week, when I was doing searches for Mary Jane Watson for the blogpost about Kevin Smith, I thought I saw countless mentions of Evan Rachel Wood to play MJ.
ReplyDeleteI went to check, and now I see that MJ WON'T be in the new films.
My, how quickly things change.
no, I think I haven't seen ADAM then, but I must.
ReplyDeleteI also loved him in KING ARTHUR, BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE, ELIZABETH I, and in EVENING which is a movie you absolutely must watch (the cast is magnificent). The cast of EVENING includes all of my most favourite creatures - Toni Collette, Meryl Streep, Hugh Dancy, Patrick Wilson, Glenn Close and plus Vanessa Redgrave, Natasha Richardson, Hugh's wife Claire Danes, and even Mammie Gummer - Meryl Streep's real life daughter.
@MJenks
ReplyDeleteyes, they wanted to change the story a bit and to introduce new female characters.
Vlad the Impaler, eh? Will they stick to history or come up with fanciful Hollywood style balderdash?

Tossing It Out
DEZMOND - Vlad the Impaler was one scary guy. I don't know how I feel about Sam playing him. He usually plays the good guy.
ReplyDeleteAnd the whole spider man thing is kind of a yawn, but I like Emma Roberts. Did you see the movie Aquamarine? It was quite cute. My girls (okay and their mom) really liked it. =D
@Arlee
ReplyDeleteah, who knows, he will probably end up being a romantic hero.
@Shells
I think I saw parts of AQUAMARINE, but I don't remember Emma in it. It's a nice movie for kids.
So Worthington's finally nabbed Dracula, eh? Well, we'll see if this is the role he could really sink his teeth into, pardon the pun. He's been too expressionless for my liking in the last two movies I've seen him in, but I haven't given up on him just yet.
ReplyDeletenot too expressionless but totally expressionless :) I don't think he had any sign of any emotion in AVATAR or in CLASH OF THE TITANS, but he is still quite alluring in certain way.
ReplyDeleteYup, alluring... that's why I haven't given up on him yet ;)
