Two Netflix projects about kids with special powers, starting with TV series adaptation of Salman Rushdie's MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN which  follows the life of Saleem Sinai, born on the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947, the time of India’s independence. His every act is mirrored and magnified in events that sway the course of India’s national affairs; his health and wellbeing are inextricably bound to those of his nation; his life is inseparable, at times indistinguishable, from the history of his country. Perhaps most remarkable are the telepathic powers linking him with India’s 1,000 other “midnight’s children,” all born in that initial hour and endowed with magical gifts.

Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY and prepares his “children” to save the world. But not everything went according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractured and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeves’ passing. They have to work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

Kyle Schmid joins the cast of the new sf show

SF news all the way today, spylings, starting with the update from Netflix who have just added gorgeous Kyle Schmid to the cast of their new  THE I LAND sf series which already includes Kate Bosworth and Alex Pettyfer! When ten people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there, they set off on a trek to try to get back home. They soon discover this world is not as it seems. Faced with the island’s extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves — or die as their worst ones. Kyle Schmid will play a hippie who has a generally laid-back vibe, even in the face of real danger.

EMMETT SCANLAN IS LOBO!

SyFy has revealed the first look of a new cast member in the second season of their KRYPTON series: Emmett J. Scanlan as the legendary villain Lobo!

Emmett Scanlan will be the crazy wild Lobo

The ruthless bounty hunter who murdered his entire species will appear in the new season of the epic adventure which follows Superman's grandfather back on their home planet. Like Superman, Lobo also has superhuman strength and is almost immortal. As The Hollywood Reporter reveals, season two of KRYPTON will expand beyond Kandor to other planets as Doomsday is unleashed. The Superman prequel will also delve into the origins of Brainiac and get a better sense of the true threat the character poses.

Tom Hopper will lead the cast!

of Merlin and Black Sails will be leading new series THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY over at Netflix based on a graphic novel by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba which follows the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes known as the Umbrella Academy as they work together to solve their father’s mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities. Ellen Page has previously been cast as the black sheep of the family, Vanya, the only one without super powers.

LUTHER
Tom Hopper will play Luther who was groomed by his father from an early age to be the leader of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY, a responsibility that has always weighed heavily on him. He is resilient, a workaholic, and possesses the ability of heightened physical strength. Upstanding to a fault, he always tries to do the right thing, even if that means putting others before himself.

His sister Allison will be played by Emmy Raver Lampman! She a beautiful and elegant  former world famous movie star who possesses the power of suggestion - anything she says aloud comes to pass. Her life seems

David Castaneda will play Diego

perfect from the outside, but her ability has undermined every relationship she's ever had. With her career on the decline and her marriage in shambles, she refuses to use her power as she seeks a more authentic life.

DIEGO
David Castaneda will play Diego, a skilled, intense vigilante who has a real problem with authority. He isn't as naturally strong or smart as his siblings, so he's worked three times as hard for everything. Believing he should have been the leader of his family instead of his brother, he carries a massive chip on his shoulder that makes him hostile to just about everyone.
