Two new series coming out today for your viewing pleasure this weekend. Over at Hulu out today is their new multicam sitcom from Will & Grace creators titled MID-CENTURY MODERN about three best friends, gay gentlemen of a certain age, played by Matt Bomer, Nathan Lane and Nathan Lee Graham, who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother and a naked Gen Z housekeeper. As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you it would be better if you got your neck done! Linda Lavin, who recently died, is Bunny’s mother, Sybil whose strengths are her weaknesses: wise, caring, and iconoclastic, which sometimes means she’s critical, smothering and amoral!

Matt Bomer is Jerry Frank who left the Mormon Church and his marriage in his early twenties after his wife informed him and the rest of the congregation that he was a homosexual. Now a latter-day saint in the literal sense of the term, Jerry is pure of heart. He is also hard of body and soft of head. Nathan Lee Graham is Arthur, a dignified, elegant, fashion industry veteran who believes that life will never quite match the grace and panache that would exist if only he were in charge. All ten episodes are out March 28th!

This one was originally set over at Apple + TV  but animated adventure SPELLBOUND has then moved to Netflix where it will finally stream three years after on November 22nd. It is an animated musical with an original score from Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater and it centres on a young girl who sets out to break the spell that has divided her kingdom in two. Set in Lumbria, a world of magic where a young girl named Ellian must break a spell that has split her kingdom and transformed her parents into monsters! Directed by Vicky Jenson it has Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, Nathan Lane and John Lithgow in the voice cast!

Gilded Age returns October 29th

Well, it has been an extremely long wait, but HBO is finally bringing us the second season of Julian Fellowes' wonderful and highly entertaining costume drama GILDED AGE which will land October 29th with eight new episodes set again during the Gilded Age in America, a period of immense economic change, of great conflict between the old ways and brand new systems and of fortunes made and lost. Over in the United Kingdom, the new season will start a day later, October 30th on Sky Atlantic! Today you can check out the insanely gorgeous and super glitzy costumes in the brand new trailer that has been released today filled with lavish gowns and even more lavish sets, it is splendour all around:

 

THE SECOND SEASON
 begins on Easter morning 1883, with the news that Bertha Russell’s (Carrie Coon) bid for a box at the Academy of Music has been rejected. Throughout the season, Bertha challenges Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy) and the old system and works to not only gain a foothold in Society but to potentially take a leading role in it. George Russell (Morgan Spector) takes on his own battle with a growing union at his steel plant in Pittsburgh. In the Brook House, Marian (Louisa Jacobson) continues her journey to find her way in the world secretly teaching at a girls’ school while much to everyone’s surprise Ada (Cynthia Nixon) begins a new courtship. Of course, Agnes (Christine Baranski) approves of none of it. In Brooklyn, the Scott family begins to heal from a shocking discovery, and Peggy (Denée Benton) taps into her activist spirit through her work with T. Thomas Fortune at the NY Globe. Small movies Monday for you today, starting with the first trailer and poster for the movie adaptation of CARRIE PILBY a best selling novel from Caren Lissner in which Bel Powley plays a girl of high intelligence who struggles to make sense of the world as it relates to morality, relationships, sex and leaving her apartment. Beside Powley in the title role, the cast also includes Nathan Lane as her shrink, with William Moseley, Gabriel Byrne and Jason Ritter also in the cast. The movie should be out in US cinemas beginning of April.

'BLACK BUTTERFLY' POSTER

The first poster has also been released for the remake of French thriller Papillon Noir by Herve Korian now titled BLACK BUTTERFLY. Antonio Banderas plays Paul, a down on his luck screenwriter who picks up a drifter (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and offers him a place to stay. However, when the deranged stranger takes Paul hostage and forces him to write, their unhinged relationship brings buried secrets to light. Piper Perabo and Abel Ferrara also star in the movie which is out sometime later this year.
