Unlike September which was dry as Sahara, month of October will bring us some new shows or new seasons of the ones we already love and among them is brand new period set series FELLOW TRAVELERS which gives Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey and epic romance spanning decades. This eight episode series will start streaming on Showtime's channel on Paramount Plus October 27th and then also on the linear Showtime from October 29th. This epic love story and political thriller is a small screen adaptation of Thomas Mallon’s novel. This is one of the rare examples where gay characters are played by gay actors: as you know Bomer has a husband and children with him, while Bailey has been in a relationship with British star Hugh Skinner for a few years now.

Bomer plays charismatic Hawkins Fuller, who maintains a financially
rewarding, behind-the-scenes career in politics. Hawkins avoids
emotional entanglements until he meets Tim Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey), a
young man who’s brimming with idealism and religious faith. They begin a
romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on
“subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods
in 20th-century American history. Over the course of four decades, we
follow our five main characters – Hawk, Tim, Marcus (Jelani Alladin),
Lucy (Allison Williams) and Frankie (Noah J. Ricketts) – as they cross
paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled
disco hedonism of the 1970s and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s while
facing obstacles in the world and within themselves.
Newly minted Paramount + with Showtime has released first images from their period set mini series FELLOW TRAVELERS which will arrive to the small screens this Autumn starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey as a gay couple. Both of them are gay in private lives as well. Bailey is Tim Laughlin, a young and optimistic graduate looking for a job in Washington DC’s elite, and Matt is Hawkins Fuller, a political staffer in the adaptation of Thomas Mallon’s novel of the same name.
IN THE EIGHT PART SERIES
They
forge a decades-spanning relationship against a backdrop of
McCarthyism, the Vietnam War and the AIDS crisis, from the 1950s all the
way to the 80s. The series sees Hawkins get Laughlin a job working for
Senator Joe McCarthy. The Senator led the Lavender (and Red) Scare,
which saw people ejected from government positions for even the
slightest hint of being homosexual.
Hawkins asks Laughlin to spy on McCarthy (Chris Bauer) which adds a
transactional quality to the pair’s relationship.
AMERICANA 19TH CENTURY
TV SERIES SETS LEAD CAST
Here's a new historical series for you: as Deadline reports Disney's Star + streamer in South America is shooting two six episode seasons of AMERICANA period set series with Kaiwi Lyman joined by Caco Ciocler, Andre Ramiro, Bruno Gissoni, Larissa Nunes, David Júnior, Maria Luiza Mendonça, Luciano Quirino, Zahy Tentehar, Diego lleske, Arthur Garbe in the cast. It is set in Americana, a municipality in the state of
Arthur Garbe, Kaiwi Lyman and Caco Ciocler will star in the series
São Paulo, during the late 19th century and follows the Confederates who left the U.S. for Brazil after losing the American Civil War. The protagonists are a police officer and his female slave, who is also a detective, as they uncover the truth behind murders in the town. About 20,000 Confederate subjects, known as Confederados, left America to emigrate to Brazil in the 19th Century.

And your epic treat for today are first photos from the second season of Russian historical series CATHERINE THE GREAT (Velikaya - not to be confused withtheir rival seriesCATHERINE II in which the tzarina was played by Marina Aleksandrova and which already had two seasons). Kinopoisk was the first to show footage with Elizabeth Boyarskaya in the role of older Catherine II from the sequel to the series "Catherine the Great".
The first part, where Julia Snigir played the Empress, was released in 2015. Now the action takes place in 1763, the first year after the coronation of Catherine. The series also stars Anton Khabarov (Grigory Orlov), Alexei Morozov (Gregory Potemkin), Pavel Vorozhtsov (Nikita Panin), Alexey Filimonov (Lev Naryshkin), Igor Gordin (Alexey Bestuzhev), Sofia Sinitsyna (Ekaterina Dashkova) and Philip Ershov (future Emperor Paul).
Filming is currently taking place in palaces, parks and mansions of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, as well as on the ship "Poltava". The project involves more than 560 historical costumes, which were sewn and rented in Spain and the Czech Republic. Mars Media is working on the 12-episode second season ordered by Russia's Channel One.

JANE AUSTEN'S PERSUASION
GETS NETFLIX STREAM DATE
Netflix has finally announced that July 15th will be the launch date for their new movie adaptation of Jane Austen's PERSUASION and they've celebrated that with a couple of new photos from the costume drama starring Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliot, Cosmo Jarvis as Captain Wentworth and Henry Golding as Mr Elliot, with Richard E. Grant also in the cast.Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities. When Frederick Wentworth - the dashing one she let get away - crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances! PERSUASION was the last novel that Austen managed to finish before she kicked the bucket. If you remember, Sanditon, airing currently in its second season on PBS Masterpiece with not much success, is based on an Austen book which she did not managed to finish.
