The Duchess of Malfi will shoot this November in Italy

November in Italy, it follows the recently widowed Duchess who falls in love with her steward Antonio. Their union sets in motion a conflict with her cruel and vengeful brothers, the Cardinal and Ferdinand, who enlist the spy Bosola to keep her from escaping their control.
All of the pictures of the cast in Django have a very confused expression on their faces. I hope that's not telling of what's to come!

ReplyDeleteI'm interested in the Duchess myself, I do love me a good costume drama. I remember reading the play at college at it was a rather weird one.
DeleteI would love to watch the duchess of malfi! Every Sunday's mornings are "western time" in our TVs. I used to love western series when i was a kid but i dont like them Now.

DeleteI’m looking forward to Django (I used to like spaghetti westerns) but I’m afraid it may lead me back to my old Far West obsession, and here in America there are cable channels that deal only with westerns so it’s easy to get me hooked in the genre. I wonder which steaming service will get hold of it.
ReplyDeleteGoing back to our chat back there, In the early 80s Gere was The Heartthrob, but I never fell for him in movies like” Officer and a Gentleman” or “American Gigolo. I got to like him only at the turn of the century (Red Corner, 1997, to be more exact) when I realized he was a good actor. Depp on the other hand, although I loved his movies, he always strikes me as an overgrown teenager.
You must watch “The Undoing” It’s superb from the acting to the scenery, New York in autumn is when it looks more beautiful.
Your evaluation of El Cid shows that it’s not historical inaccuracies that is murdering Spanish period piece, but its scripts that make no sense.
We must be truly desperate LOL. You watching “The Moonstone (I like Wilkie Collins, but it was tedious) and me using my month-free Amazon subscription to re-watch “Endeavour”.
There are quite a few Westerns in production currently. Epix, Acorn and Sundance used to buy Sky's series before, so it could be one of them. Did you catch Domina on Epix? It is the only of the new epic shows that I want continued actually.

There are few streaming services and Premium channels that i don't subscribe too: EPIX being one of them. I got to see Belgravia because Epix was free fo like a month at the onset of the pandemic. I don't regret not watching Domina. The clips show tipical damsel in distress subject to patriarchal whims discovering MeToo feminism in early Rome. My Livia comes from Suetonius and Tacitus and will always look like Dame Sian Phillips.
DeleteNo, she was rather powerful, it is Gaius who depends on her not the other way around. It was not the best of shows, but the cast was great and I would love to see Kasiya leading some new shows in the future. It did have the black woman story, though, but you cannot escape that these days.
