its way into the cinemas around holidays, in the Christmas week to be more precise. It has been eleven years since Antonio Banderas first landed his voice to the smooth talking sword wielding feline bandit and now he is back in the voice cast together with Salma Hayek and Joel Crawford as the director. 

 

STORY OF PUSS IN BOOTS SEQUEL 

This winter, everyone's favorite leche-loving, swashbuckling, fear-defying feline returns. For the first time in more than a decade, Dream Works Animation presents a new adventure in the Shrek universe as daring outlaw Puss in Boots

The original film was released in 2011

discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet. Antonio Banderas returns as the voice of the notorious Puss as he embarks on an epic journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star and restore his lost lives. But with only one life left, Puss will have to humble himself and ask for help from his former partner and nemesis: the captivating Kitty Soft Paws (Salma Hayek). In their quest, Puss and Kitty will be aided, against their better judgment, by a ratty, chatty, relentlessly cheerful mutt, Perro (Harvey Guillén). Together, our trio of  heroes will have to stay one step ahead of Goldilocks (Florence Pugh) and the Three Bears Crime Family led by Papa Bear (Ray Winstone), "Big" Jack  Horner (John Mulaney) and terrifying bounty hunter, The Big Bad Wolf (Wagner Moura). The producers wanted to make it more unique as a storybook than a comic. Using new technology, the team at DreamWorks focused more on a painterly style design, to make it feel like you’re in a fairy-tale world! The first half hour of the movie was shown earlier this week at Annecy International Animation Film Festival where the critics deemed it much darker than the original. It is interesting that Dream Works hasn't released an animated movie in December for more than twenty years!

This one is currently in post production but we have first photos from period set drama movie PRIZEFIGHTER: THE LIFE OF JEM BELCHER from director Daniel Graham. The English language Victorian costume drama, shot at Malta and in Lithuania, depicts the birth of boxing as a sport.

  This is the little known true story of a boxer who became the youngest ever world champion at the age of nineteen in 1800. Jem Belcher transformed primitive pugilism into the sport of boxing as we know it today. Growing up in poverty and surrounded by brutal violence and addiction, Jem is saved by a benevolent mentor and the discipline of boxing, becoming the most exciting sportsman in all of England. Rivals, back stabbing and the newly established boxing hierarchy did everything they could to thwart him but Jem is on path to cement his place in history - as a pioneer of the sport.  At the turn of the 19th century, Pugilism was the sport of kings and a gifted young boxer fought his way to becoming champion of England.

WHO STARS IN THE MOVIE?

Matt Hookings, a Welsh star who also serves as the producer, plays the lead role of Jem Belcher with Ray Winstone as his trainer, Marton Csokas and Jodhi May also in the cast. It is interesting that in real life, Matt is a son of David 'Bomber' Pearce, former British Heavyweight boxing champion dubbed the 'Newport Rocky'.

Attention, spylings, we have a special broadcast today with fresh news and updates from Comic Con which is raging currently over in San Diego. The day brought us the very first trailer for the live action movie musical version of famous CATS and I don't know what to say, as someone said somewhere in comments it looks like stuff of nightmares with people in purrrfectly terrible masks of cats. Something for the littlest spylings among you today as we launch our Family weekend with a spotlight on three new animated movies that will arrive into cinemas this year. THE QUEEN'S CORGI will bark its way into theatres this July in United Kingdom, but will start its cinematic life from February and then throughout this spring around Europe and Asia.

THE QUEEN'S CORGI
 is about the adventure of Rex, the British monarch's most beloved dog, who loses track of his mistress and stumbles across a clan with dogs of all kinds confronting and

After establishing a relationship with a dubious Messiah, played by Harvey Keitel, he leaves his normal life and begins the construction of a shelter underground, training himself, in an extreme way, at the cost of losing everything and making people believe he is insane. When he also believes it, something extraordinary happens. The film is out in Argentina next week, since it is a coproduction between Argentina and Canada.

The film will see Oscar nominee Hawkins playing a woman who, after being left at the altar, had a breakdown and has spiralled into a chaotic episode of schizophrenia lasting 20 years in which love (both real and imagined) and family relationships collide. ABC'S NEW EPIC TV SERIES

Arriving to us as one of the first of the new historical series this Spring, ABC's midseason epic series OF KINGS AND PROPHETS is ready to bring swords and sandals to the small screens March 8th beginning its Tuesday evening airing.

It will be an epic biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal as told through the eyes of the battle weary King Saul, the resentful prophet Samuel and the resourceful young shepherd David -- all on a collision course with destiny that will change the world. Although based on an Old Testament story the producers promise a sex drenched series filled with explicitly racy scenes, describing  one of the world’s first soap operas.

RAY WINSTONE LEADS THE CAST

 The king from the story will be played by Ray Winstone, as the paranoid and violent Saul, First King of Israel. We meet him as he struggles to unify the 12 Israelite tribes and defend his fledgling nation against savage enemy attacks.

 Ahinoam will be played by Simone Kessell from TERRA NOVA. She is the queen of Israel, the advisor to the throne as the wife of Saul!

Shepherd David is played by Oliver Rix from THE MUSKETEERS! He is the future King David, the second king of Israel!

  Ish-Boseth, the youngest warrior son of the first king and queen of Israel Saul and Ahinoam will be potrayed by James Floyd.

 Jonathan, the elder son of King Saul is played by  Haaz Sleiman!

 Merav, the eldest daughter of King Saul and Queen Ahinoam and sister of Michal, is played by Jeanine Mason .

 Their youngest daughter Michal is Maisie Richardson Sellers!

Belgian actor Louis Talpe will play Eliab, King David’s proud and single minded older brother.

 The cagey, shrewd and lethal King Achish, the King of Philistia who has been warring with King Saul for years is played by  Nathaniel Parker!

Not much to report today, so we're turning over to the TV world with the new photos of Jude Law as the pontiff in THE YOUNG POPE TV series that is under production. The new headshots show he looks brilliant with grey hair and in papal robes! In the Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino directed drama he will play the fictional role of the first American Pope in contemporary times who is ultra conservative and thus has problems in Vatican. Diane Keaton is a nun who raised him and helped him become the pope. HBO, Sky and Canal + will air the series later this year.

'OF KINGS AND PROPHETS'

And ABC has finally released an extended trailer for the midseason epic TV series OF KINGS AND PROPHETS and I'm afraid it looks kinda cheap and lacking in visual image. To start airing March 8th, it will be set 1,000 years before Christ, following the first king of the Israelites, Saul (Ray Winstone), who struggles to unify the 12 Israelite tribes and defend his fledgling nation against savage enemy attacks. The prophet Samuel relays a message from God to King Saul that he must destroy one of Israel’s ancient enemies. But when Saul defies that message, Samuel prophesies that the Lord will tear the kingdom of Israel from him and choose another in his place. In time, Saul comes to realize that his greatest threat will not come from his enemies but from the shepherd, David (Oliver Rix).

Only this weekend I informed you that Amin Maalouf's LEO THE AFRICAN will be turned into a movie, and now yet another of his beloved novels is getting the adaptation and already has the cast! PORTS OF CALL will star Golshifteh Farahani (EXODUS GODS AND KINGS), Louis Garrel and Pierre Niney in, as 'Deadline' reports, the story about two ill-starred lovers who meet in Paris during World War II: Ossyane, the principal narrator and Muslim Ottoman prince, and Clara, a Jewish freedom fighter from Vienna. PORTS OF CALL is a fable of madness and family ties, of love and despair, of mixed and uncertain identities set against the backdrop of the French Resistance as well as the breakdown of order in Beirut. Atiq Rahimi is directing!

'STEELHEART' ADAPTATION

And as you know, adaptations of YA novels have been a trend for years now, and here's the latest one: STEELHEART fantasy trilogy from Brandon Sanderson is to be adapted and directed by Shawn Levy at Fox. The tale begins with a burst in the sky that gave some ordinary people extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics, but with incredible gifts came the desire to rule. In what was once Chicago, an astonishingly powerful Epic named STEELHEART installed himself as emperor. Nobody fights back but the Reckoners, a shadowy group of ordinary humans who spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them. The book centres on David, who wants in the group because STEELHEART killed his father, and he alone knows the Epics’ true weakness.
