Here's someone we haven't seen in a while (at least I haven't): SMALLVILLE's star Tom Welling has just joined the big screen adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' THE CHOICE! I've already reported that Benjamin Walker will play Travis Parker and Teresa Palmer will play Gabby Holland  -  neighbours in a small coastal town, who end up pursuing a relationship neither expected. Welling will be a doctor at his father’s practice who is Gabby’s boyfriend. The triangle plays out over the course of a decade in North Carolina. Maggie Grace and Alexandra Dadario will also join the cast of the romantic drama in supporting roles.

ABC BUYS 'SPLITTING THE DIFFERENCE', NBC 'TAKE IT FROM US' COMEDIES
In today TV news, new sitcoms are being commissioned as we speak: ABC has bought comedy series SPLITTING THE DIFFERENCE produced by Eva Longoria! Based on Tré Miller Rodriguez’s memoirs the story will centre on a buttoned down 17-year-old who reunites with her recently widowed 36-year-old biological mom and they become the heart of a patchwork family bound by more than blood. NBC has, meanwhile, bought  TAKE IT FROM US sitcom from FRIENDS scribe Greg Malins about a couple in their 50s who tell their son and his new fiancée all the mistakes they made in life in hopes the new couple can avoid making the same mistakes.

Eleventh movie adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks book, romantic drama THE CHOICE, has found its lead stars in Benjamin Walker (ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER) and Theresa Palmer (WARM BODIES). They will play neighbours who fall for each other in a small coastal town. The story spans a decade of their love affair, which is ultimately tested by life’s most defining events.

Meanwhile, BBC has released the first photo of Benedict Cumberbatch as King Richard III in BBC's new season of THE HOLLOW CROWN historical dramas based on Shakespeare's RICHARD III and HENRY VI. The three part series will see Judi Dench, Sophie Okonedo and Keeley Hawes playing the royal ladies, with Andrew Scott playing French king Louis, Tom Sturridge  as Henry VI and Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and Michael Gambon also in the cast.

Marking the hundred years from the beginning of the Great War Australian historical drama THE WATER DIVINER will arrive into cinemas this Christmas starring Russell Crowe (who also directs), Jai Courtney and Olga Kurylenko. The story of the epic adventure is set four years after the devastating battle of Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I. Australian farmer Connor (Russell Crowe) travels to Istanbul to discover the fate of his sons, reported missing in the action, where he forges a relationship with the beautiful Turkish woman (Olga Kurylenko) who owns the hotel in which he stays. Holding on to hope, and with the help of a Turkish Officer, Connor embarks on a journey across the country to find the truth about the fate of his sons.

Now, here are some wonderful casting news: as 'Deadline' writes today Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke might be the lead stars of ME BEFORE YOU big screen adaptation of bestselling Jojo Moyes novel. Set to premiere next August, the movie will follow Lou, a young girl from a small town, who meets Will, a successful man who has been confined to a wheelchair after a horrific accident. Lou takes a job as Will's caretaker and they go on a series of adventures during which the young woman tries to convince Will that life is still worth living!

And the eleventh Nicholas Sparks book to move onto the big screens is THE CHOICE. After his bestselling books such as SAFE HAVEN, THE NOTEBOOK, MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE, A WALK TO REMEMBER, DEAR JOHN, THE LUCKY ONE have been made into movies, THE CHOICE will be adapted too by Ross Katz. The story follows a man and a woman who live as neighbours in a coastal town in North Carolina, before their relationship blossoms into a romance neither of them imagined would happen. Sparks' THE BEST OF ME and THE LONGEST RIDE are currently awaiting release or production.

STORY OF ELEPHANT WHO CRIED

 TO BE MADE INTO A MOVIE

Deadline also reports that famous ELEPHANT WHO CRIED will get his own movie! The movie will tell the heart wrenching story of Raju, the animal who had been kept in chains and abused for 50 years and cried when he was freed in the middle of the night by brave animal rights activists. The chains that kept him imprisoned for decades left abscessed wounds in his leg, he was starving and had sores all over its body, while his tail was plucked raw to sell hairs as good luck charms. Last month he was secretly taken to a sanctuary where he is now able to walk free, eat decent food (he had been eating plastic and paper in order to fill up his empty belly while in captivity), receive medical care, lounge in his favourite pool and mix with other elephants — none of which was provided to him during his 50 years of  life in clawed shackles that dug into his skin. The world is awaiting the court decision in India tomorrow on whether he will be returned to his molester who had sued the activists.
