CARLOTA EPIC SERIES
ON MEXICAN EMPRESS UNVEILS CAST
Sony Pictures TV has unveiled lead cast for their new ten episode epic series CARLOTA on the empress of Mexico. It reimagines a visionary royal ahead of her time, following Carlota (pop star Belinda) of Habsburg’s arrival
in Mexico full of idealism and determined to change the world. But as political unrest deepens and cultural tensions rise, she finds herself entangled in a far more complex reality, including a love story that defies fairy-tale expectations.
As Carlota and her husband Maximilian (Jaime Lorente) attempt to build a new empire, they are drawn into a dangerous web of ambition, loyalty and betrayal. Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Mabel Cadena will also star.

Should be interesting because we have not had a lot of series if any on the two of them in their Mexico years.
DeleteWe did, but it was before your time HeHe. Ernesto Alonso devoted three of his "novelas historicas" to them. Beatriz Martinez played the Empress in two episodes of la Tormenta (1967). Previously the toyal couple had starred in their own story : Maximiliano y Carlota (1965) they were played by Guillermo Murray and Maria Rivas. Finally, in El Vuelo del Aguila (1994) Mario Ivan Martinez was Maximilian and Laura Flores was Mama Carlota.
ReplyDeleteBut those are all Spanish ones for Spanish audiences, I imagine this one will have a streamer for global presentation. But I cannot get my head over the casting of Jaime, how on Earth can someone as fugly as him play a blondish Austrian Habsburgh???? Ridiculous casting, especially as there is nothing imperial about him. And Belinda looks like a product of tons of plastic surgeries not a period set character.
DeleteJaime Lorente was pretty fun in Money Heist.
ReplyDeleteHe was god awful in El Cid.
DeleteProbably not one I'll watch. I don't know anything about her, and I haven't been impressed with anything he's ever been in that I've seen.
ReplyDeleteThey were present in the Empress series at Netflix about Sisi, he was the brother of her husband emperor Franz, but in that series he is blond and Austrian, not Spanish like this one LOL
