immigrate from Poland. Her American dream turns into a
nightmare. While sailing to Ellis Island and a new start, her sister grows deathly ill and she is forced to trade sexual favors for medicine and food to keep her sister alive. Once they land, she is warned to keep quiet about what happened. Though she does, she walks away with immigration papers that deem her a woman with bad morals. With no place to go, she falls prey to a charming sleazebag (Joaquin Phoenix), who persuades her to turn tricks in New York. Jeremy Renner will probably play the sleazebag's cousin, a magician who sweeps the young woman off her feet and is her best chance to escape the nightmarish life she has fallen into.
town stranded in a Christmas snowstorm. With sparkling white snowdrifts, beautiful presents wrapped in ribbons, and multicolored lights glittering in the night through the falling snow a small town gets transformed into a romantic haven. In one of the stories we shall see cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere which ends with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger, in another a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow which leads to love with an old friend, and in one of the stories the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks.
Morena Baccarin also played in Stargate SG-1! I only think it needs to be said because Stargate is one of the greatest sci-fi shows ever. :)
ReplyDeleteLOW LIFE sounds interesting. I'll have to keep my out for that one.
I tried watching SG1 but it made me sleep all the time :) so I haven't noticed Morena in it, but I did love SG original film!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I'm a girl who loves the pewpew biff bang type movies, I also love the romantic festive films :)
ReplyDeletethat festive one is actually the best one I heard about this week :) I adore Christmas and snow films :)
ReplyDeleteAll good stuff today, Dezz. Charming sleazebags, delicious kisses, and psychological demons. What's not to love?
ReplyDeleteI just read about the Joaquin/Marion news over at Castor's blog a minute ago. Glad to hear Joaquin is back, too bad the premise isn't something that appeals to me.
ReplyDelete@Luanne
ReplyDeletehe he and I thought that nobody will like it. This week has been extremely poor for finding interesting film exclusives and news :(
@Flixy
the premise isn't appealing to me either, and plus I don't like either Marion nor Renner
Dezzy, that's just wrong! SG-1 is one of my all time favorite shows. How could it make you sleep?! The horror... :P
ReplyDeleteDamn, why is Marion Cotillard so hot? But the films sounds a bit like depression!porn for middle aged moms. Which means I'll probably see it with my mother.
ReplyDelete...it's nice seeing Claire Danes back in the spotlight. Haven't heard from her in a while.
ReplyDeleteEL
I love the show Homeland, I can't wait until it starts. I've been a fan of Lewis since Life and the type of show is up my alley.
ReplyDeleteMarion's new project sounds very interesting as does Homeland.
ReplyDeleteI just can't do the Christmas film. I can feel myself going into a diabetic coma already. I love Christmas, I like snow and I like them in movies, but not with love unless it;s done right.
I'm just glad to see Claire Danes is still working....
ReplyDeleteI always loved her.
Lowlife sounds like the perfect movie to take a spouse to! It will add that extra little bit of spice into the relationship.
ReplyDeleteHomeland sounds good but Low Life I don't think so.
ReplyDelete@Emily
ReplyDeletewell it didn't exactly have a dynamic plot
:) or intricate settings :)But I did love that guy who played the doctor, the one with the glasses.
@Hufstader
I hope you clicked on Marion's picture to see her in all her size :) She is not wearing any underwear in that pic!
@El
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure it's a spotlight, but she is trying to get back. She didn't exactly manage to use up the Golden Globe she received a few years ago for one of her TV roles.
@Clarissa
Damian is one of my all time favourite actors too. I adored him in FORSYTE SAGA and in BAND OF BROTHERS. Such a breathtaking character, I'd love him as James Bond :)
@Melsy
he he we shall call you Melsy Grinch :)))
@Andrew
ReplyDeletedid you know that she shares her birthday with your HOLLYWOOD SPY? :) I love her husband Hugh Dancy too!
@HiFi
now, that's an unusual philosophy which requires some deep thinking :)
@Lurk
yep, LOW LIFE is kinda too much but it might bring some awards to the actors if done right.
I'll have to read Let It Snow before the movie comes out! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteI wanna read it too! Seems like a delightful book. I wanna translate it too :)
ReplyDeleteNo interesting news today, but Low Life does have one heck of a cast; Cotillard and Phoenix could be dynamic.
ReplyDeleteCotillard is such a good actress. Homeland looks intriguing (dontcha love how Hollywood feeds on the U.S.' national fears?)
ReplyDelete@Matty
ReplyDelete'tis true, Matty, the whole week has been terrible in the news department and I'm very scared from the upcoming weekend, I don't know what I'll write about :(
@Michael
yep, USA has always used Hollywood for their political propaganda and for spreading the picture of fabricated reality to their subjects.
Glad to hear Morena has a new gig. I'll always love her best as Inara, but it's good to see her working. Let it snow sounds a lot like Love Actually, which I love.
ReplyDeleteInara is one of my favourite sf female characters too :) Probably the main reason I watched FIREFLY :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Joaquin Phoenix is very eager to return to movie business again.
ReplyDeleteit does :)
