Since you know how your HOLLYWOOD SPY loves epics and historical adventures, one of my most anticipated films of 2011 is the Roman epic THE EAGLE (previously titled THE EAGLE OF THE NINTH), which is going to
premiere in cinemas February 25th with great cast including Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Mark Strong, Donald Sutherland, Denis O’Hare, Douglas Henshall, Paul Ritter, Ben O’Brien, Tahar Rahim ... The film is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, STATE OF PLAY).
The story starts in 140 AD, when two men, master and slave, venture beyond the edge of the known world on a dangerous and obsessive quest that will push them beyond the boundaries of loyalty and betrayal, friendship and hatred, deceit and heroism… 20 years earlier, Rome’s 5,000-strong Ninth Legion, under
the command of Flavius Aquila (Donald Sutherland), marched north carrying their treasured golden Eagle emblem. They never returned; Legion and Eagle simply vanished into the mists. Hearing a rumor that the Eagle has been seen in a tribal temple in the far north, Flavius’ son Marcus (Channing Tatum), determined to restore the tarnished reputation of his father, is galvanized into
action. Accompanied only by his slave Esca (Jamie Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia, the vast and dangerous highlands of Scotland, to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father’s memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem the hallowed Eagle of the Ninth. Along the way Marcus realizes that the mystery of his father’s disappearance may well be linked to the secret of his own slave’s identity and loyalty – a secret all the more pressing when the two come face-to-face with the warriors of the fearsome Seal Prince (Tahar Rahim).
I know, pal. That's why we called you Nanny mcEpical Dezzy Tatum :)))
ReplyDeletethat Tatum surname fits me nicely, yes? :)))
ReplyDeleteDid they push the release on this back two weeks? I thought it was supposed to be premiering in theaters on Feb. 11th.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to re-plan the Latin lessons now.
If he starts pop-locking and break-dancing after a vicious fight scene, I will throw my own waste at the screen I promise! lol
ReplyDeletethey make so many of these films... I'm looking forward to that Cleopatra one. Yes~ :o)
ReplyDeleteThey are finally playing ads for this here on TV. Of course I heard about it first months ago. From my good friend Dezzy! Booyah.
ReplyDeleteWe have the same taste in movies.
ReplyDeleteThe Eagle looks badass!
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for the two new music suggestions. They're money!
I normally skip these sorts of flicks, but the description you've posted here makes it sound pretty darn intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThis looks very good. I like these kind of stories a lot.
ReplyDeleteI saw the trailer to this and though, Wow...I need to see this movie. Love the idea of obsessive journeys doomed to failure. I that wrong?
ReplyDeleteEdge of Your Seat Romance
The trailer looks great, and it has Channing in it so I was won over already ha ha. I saw him first Dezzy! lol
ReplyDeleteOn a seperate note, thanks for the e-mails and messages Dez, I'm back now and CJ is staying with us also xx
@MJ
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, I think it's later in February

@Matty

@Andrew
glad you think so
YAY! There is Mark Strong there too. Wonder about battle scenes. Always is better good fist fight than shooting, well except Han Solo and Greedo.
ReplyDelete@KAl
ReplyDeleteme too!
@Raquel
no, it's not wrong :) I love them too
@Dempsey
ah, my dear, you are back! I was real worried about you! Glad to see you in shape and form to take over Channing ;)
Yes, Chrissy and Naughty Me were gossiping about you through e-mails a bit :) And what do you mean Chrissy is staying with you? I thought he's moving to my cassa :)
You already know how I feel about this one Dezzy, but I'm happy that you're excited for this one. I hope next time Jamie gets the lead role!
ReplyDeleteWho knows, Flixy, maybe Jamie will steal the show from Channing in THE EAGLE :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting about this! I can't wait to see this! :)

Roman epics get me every time. This looks to be a cavalcade of hotness like a certain tv show set in Hawaii. ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, I liked How to train a Dragon too! But I also liked Megamind a lot, though it is less "adorable" and "innocent" haha =)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment!!
Have a good day,
Lucinda
Thanks for visiting my blog yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI love Roman era movies/TV shows. I've watched or read most of the stories. Everything from Spartacus to Francine River's, MARK OF THE LION series.
I subscribed to your blog to keep up on the latest and greatest in Hollywood.
@Elizabeth
ReplyDeletebe welcome, Liz, glad you liked it ;)
@Melissa
he he only you can make a comparison between Hawaii and ancient Rome :)))
@Lucinda
MEGAMIND was charming too :)
@Ciara
thanks for subscribing, hope we will be seeing you here often my dear ;)
I like the look of The Eagle, but then I'm a sucker for historical dramas, especially ancient ones :)
ReplyDeleteWell, without a doubt Jamie WILL steal the show, just like he did in Jumper. Which is exactly my point, Dezzy, he's always cast as the second banana even though he's the one with the talent :(
ReplyDelete@Jamie
ReplyDeleteseriously? I'm shocked I didn't notice that about you :)))
@Flixy
that's what happens when you're not pretty enough, not that I don't find JAmie gorgeous!
This looks good, but it desperately needs some female roles.
ReplyDeleteAll male story/action is good enough when a play sports or hang out with my buddies. But for a story with bigger impact, or deeper meaning, I need some more "diversity".
Males and females both share this world and live their lives intervened. It would be unwise to exclude one, or another, from more important life stories, like the one this film tells.
