JUDI DENCH IS HOLLYWOOD SPY'S BEST BRITISH ACTRESS. NEW POLL: YOUR FAVOURITE BRITISH GENTS PART TWO

Your Favourite British Actress (part one) poll is over and I must say you were a very respectful and profound voters giving the most votes to the best among them, her royal majesty Judi Dench (30%).
Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta Jones took second place (23%), leaving sensual Rachel Weisz (17%) in the third spot.
Now before you start reading my story on the winner, you must first leave your computers and courteously bow in front of her royal majesty, queen Judi Dench. Did it? OK, we can continue :) For some reason, I've never considered Elizabeth II as the English queen but our dear Judi :) She really is royal in every respect. I first fell in love with her watching the amazing and heartwarming sitcom "As Time Goes By" (1992-2005) the most intelligent TV series from BBC about a woman who, at her mature age, meets the love from her youth and they start their romance again as two older people. Amazing show, I'm happy I was able to grow up watching it. Another BBC series I loved her in was the witty, charming and star-studded "Cranford". We all loved her versatile roles in "James Bond", "Nine", "Notes on a Scandal", "Mrs Henderson Presents", "The Chronicles of Riddick", "Ladies in Lavander", "The Importance of Being Earnest", "Iris", "Chocolate", "Tea With Mussolini", "Shakespeare in Love", "Mrs. Brown"... The fact that she has just one Oscar (for the 8 minute role in "Shakespeare in Love") just speaks about the nonsensical criteria of the American Film Academy. But she does have 10 BAFTAs like a true British Dame!
Before "Mrs. Brown" she wasn't overly noticed in cinemas, but she got that legendary role because she told the producer Harvey Weinstein that she had his name tattooed on her bum. It wasn't a real one, she had her make-up lady design something that she just showed him. He had never forgotten that situation :)

Now let us go to our new poll: the second part of YOUR FAVOURITE BRITISH GENTS. The dashing gentlemen competing in this round, our dear cinema knights from Great Britain are: James McAvoy (ATONEMENT, CHRONICLES OF NARNIA), Michael Fassbender (CENTURION, 300, FISH TANK), Gerard Butler (300, ATILA, REIGN OF FIRE), Rufus Sewell (TRISTAN AND ISOLDE, HELEN OF TROY), Jason Isaacs (HARRY POTTER, PETER PAN) , Jason Statham (CELLULAR, TRANSPORTER, LONDON), Damian Lewis (BAND OF BROTHERS, LIFE, COLDITZ), Stephen Moyer (TRUE BLOOD, PRINCE VALIANT). You can vote for them as much as you like in the next two weeks :)

  4. Oh Judi, such the picture of class. I barely know these British gents, save McAvoy, Butler and Sewell. Favorite Butler movie is the first one I ever saw him in: Dear Frankie.

  8. I love both Judi and Helen. Superb actors. Now, I don't think it's fair your male competition. There are just too many hunks. I can even decide between Butler and Statham. Oh well, I guess I'll choose both.

  9. I'm having Clarissa's problem too! I can't decide. I voted for Stratham, but I might change it to Butler... can I vote for both? ;)

  10. Judi Dench is certainly an amazing actress. I first discovered her after watching her explosive performance in Notes on a Scandal, and have been a fan ever since. For me, it was a tie between her and Helena Bonham Carter.

  11. ms. dench looked really familiar, but i didn't know who she was (which is really the mark of a great actress... you see them as the role not as themselves) well deserved!
    gotta go with mcavoy in this one. loved becoming jane and penelope... still have to see atonement- have you seen it? is it any good?

  12. *Raises glass* To her majesty Judi Dench. And,for me Jason Statham all the way, loved him in The Transporter. He is by far the best over the top action hero.

  13. I voted for Dame Judi alright! Just one vote too! I can't even remember which performance she first impressed me with, but I did love Mrs. Brown and Miss Matty in Cranford was a standout!
    Love the picture of her with Helen Mirren. Now had I had to choose between those two...I'm not sure WHAT I would have done!

  14. I bowed! And I voted for the Dame! Yay for beauty and talent...Age defies...

    Alright, enough of that. I love your polls.

  16. Hi DEZMOND - Well I've never heard of her BBC roles, but of course I have heard of several of the film. Great actress for sure Queen Judi. =D I don't know why I do this to myself. I guess I enjoy looking foolish, but I had no idea I could vote more than once. Hello?

    ReplyDelete
  17. i admit that i didn't like a woman playing the role of m in james bond, but judi dench played it well. she is legit.

  24. Damian Lewis has a quality that is altogether indescribable and mysterious - he gets my vote for hottest spy material - plus he's a ginger and the world could use a few more of those.

  25. Since when did Michael Fassbender become British.? Last time I looked he was Irish/German.

    Having said that, I would always vote for him. He is amazing. !!

  26. @Clarissa
    I love putting my readers in unfair situations when it comes to the choice in my polls :))

    @Lynda
    you can Lynda, just come every day and leave a vote for the two of them :)

    @Amanda
    NOTES ON A SCANDAL really had a historical combination of Dench and Blanchett.

    @Vics
    ATONEMENT was somewhere in the middle when it comes to quality. Something was missing in it, but you should watch it. I personally think Keira ruined the whole film with her wooden acting.

  27. @Brian
    Stathan is unbeatable!

    @Phylly
    Miss Matty in Cranford was outstanding, one of the most amazing TV characters ever :)

    @Missed Periods
    both of them are great!

  28. @Shells and Mike
    I've said it many times before :) - yes, you can vote many times, but you must come each day, or you just have to close your browser and open it again (this doesn't work with all browsers, but it works with Mozilla), off course I hope fans won't abuse this to cast thousands of votes just for their favourite star :))

    @Ed
    she's better than Bond :))

    @Monique, Val and Anonymous
    Damian is amazing actor, I too love him a lot, and he always brings amazing performances.

  30. ....mmmm there's something sexy about Judi Dench (no homo)...but it's true!

    ReplyDelete
  31. yes, as you can see even Helen Mirren thinks Judi is sexy so she took the role of the man in the pic :))

    ReplyDelete
  32. I guess I would be ineligible to vote since I've seen hardly any of these movies and don't remember much about anyone's performances. I'm such a horrid movie fan.

    ReplyDelete
  41. glad you appreciate it, Lisa ;) I sometimes feel very sorry that American audience wasn't really introduced to that magnificently warm and inspiring show AT TIME GOES BY. World could use more educational and enlightening programmes like that one was.

  42. For crying out loud! Watch Band of Brothers - it's the best TV movie ever. Watch the DVD, it's been 10yrs but anyone who watches it is "mesmerize" Damian Lewis plays Major Winters. Directed by Tom hanks & Steven Spielberg.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes, the other guys are good, I agree. But Damian Lewis is outstanding. I vote for Damian!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Damian's roles in BAND OF BROTHERS and THE FORSYTHE SAGA were legendary, mindblowing and deeply profound! Vote for him Leny and Anonymous if you want him to win.

    ReplyDelete
  45. James also worked in Band of Brothers, but only in one episode ;)

    ReplyDelete
  46. well, BAND OF BROTHERS had probably the most amazing bunch of male actors in its cast, so it's no wonder that James was in it too. With his talent and charms McAvoy does deserve to be a part of all the greatest movie casts in history.

    ReplyDelete
  47. damian lewis is the best actor britain has ever had. and he is so handsom and was absoloutly brilliant in band of brothers and all his other films.
