Starting November 6th on Channel 5 over in Russia is new eight part historical mystery KNIGHTS (Витязи) starring Oleg Malyshev, Alan Tomaev and Dmitry Petrukhin. The events of the ancient Russian detective story unfold on the territory of Rus' in the 13th century. The best detachment of Novgorod knights falls victim to an unknown traitor and is ambushed. Due to the failure of the mission, the prince removes the governor Belogor and his faithful comrades Varun and Agathon from service. The knights are ready to master a peaceful craft and live in peace, but they have to again stand up for the defense of ordinary people and their native land. Duke Belogor is haunted by the question: who betrayed them and through whose fault is the detachment in exile?

It follows Captain Nemo, an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family, a prisoner of the East India Mercantile Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces that have taken everything from him. Shazad Latif plays Nemo, the Indian Prince, who sets sail with his ragtag crew on board the awe-inspiring Nautilus, as he not only battles with his enemy, he also discovers a magical underwater world.

Toronto Film Festival had the privilege of premiering this one,  but sadly we still do not have the wide release date nor a trailer for WIDOW CLICQUOT historical movie drama which, set in France during the Napoleonic Wars, tells the true story of the “Grande Dame of Champagne,” also known as Madame Clicquot after marrying the scion of a winemaking family. Though their marriage was arranged, a timeless love blossomed between Barbe-Nicole (Haley Bennett) and her poetic, unconventional husband, François (Tom Sturridge). After becoming a widow at age 27, she is determined to protect her family’s legacy. Determined to advance her husband's theories about soil chemistry, the configuring of vines, and revolutionary techniques in bottling, Barbe-Nicole wagers on the next harvest and her own blend of sparkling wine. We do, however, have a few new images from the film that also stars Ben Miles, Paul Rhys, Sam Riley and our dearest Leo Suter!

Louis Hofmann. The four episode series based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel is directed by Shawn Levy and also stars Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie. 

 

  THE STORY FOLLOWS 

Mark Ruffalo's Daniel LeBlanc, who flees Nazi occupied Paris with his blind daughter Marie-Laure in tow. They hide out with an eccentric uncle played by Hugh Laurie, and Marie-Laure (Aria Mia Loberti) grows up to become an underground radio broadcaster, using her words to fight the incoming Nazi empire. Her words capture the attention of German teenager Werner (Louis Hofmann), who shares Marie-Laure’s hope for a brighter future. His knowledge of radio frequencies gets him enlisted by Hitler’s regime to track down illegal broadcasts. Through Marie-Laure’s secret radio broadcasts, Werner holds onto hope as a means of survival during World War II. Lars Eidinger plays Reinhold von Rumpel, ruthless Nazi leader who is after Marie-Laure and her father, and he won’t stop until he gets his hands on a prized jewel that she is hiding.

And you probably will not recognise him: Pierce Brosnan has been transformed into an old man in THE LAST RIFLEMAN movie from Sky. In the story inspired by real-life World War II veteran Bernard Jordan, who escaped from his care home and made his way to Normandy to attend the 70th anniversary events in 2014, Brosnan plays the 89-year-old World War II hero Artie Crawford, who secretly leaves his care home in Northern Ireland in order to travel to France and pay his final respects on the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. In case you were wondering, Pierce Brosnan is 70. Directed by Terry Loane, the film also stars Desmond Eastwood, Louis Gossett Jr and Claire Rafferty. Foxtel's streamer Binge from Australia has announced work on their first original movie titled HOW TO MAKE GRAVY and they have set up quite a nice cast which will include Hugo Weaving, Daniel Henshall, Brenton Thwaites, Damon Herriman, Kate Mulvany from The Twelve

and Agate Russell. Also including cameos from Australian music stars, the movie is based on Paul Kelly’s iconic Australian song that tells the story of an inmate writing a letter home as his family prepares to celebrate their first Christmas without him.

Set on the eve of the Second World War, it depicts a meeting between Freud and Narnia writer C.S. Lewis, at the psychoanalyst’s London home, during which they debate the existence of God. The film also explores Freud’s unique relationship with his daughter Anna (Liv Lisa Fries) and Lewis’ unconventional relationship with his best friend’s mother. The stellar cast also has Orla Brady, Jeremy Northam and Stephen Campbell Moore who plays Tolkien. The film should arrive to cinemas this Christmas.

Two of our favourite HBO shows are finally coming back and beside Gilded Age which returns October 29th, JULIA is also coming back with season two but November 16th when it will premiere with three new episodes and other five will air weekly till late December. Sarah Lancashire is back as the acclaimed chef Julia Child and David Hyde Pierce as her husband, Paul as you can see in the first trailer today. For the viewers in UK the series will again air on Sky and on Foxtel in Australia.

 

IN THE SECOND SEASON

first three episodes will be set in Paris and the French Riviera while Julia grapples with her rising fame and celebrity with her show up and running on the air, and with a weekly cooking program virtually unheard of at the time. After spending some much needed time in France while preparing for her second season of her cooking show The French Chef, Julia visits a wide variety of renowned restaurants and chefs across both the South of France and the U.S in Washington D.C. and of course, Boston. Social issues prevalent in today’s social landscape are mirrored in Julia’s journey as she and her team spearhead female-driven public television.

 WHO IS IN THE CAST?

Also back in the cast are Bebe Neuwirth, Brittany Bradford, Fran Kranz, Fiona Glascott and Robert Joy while Rachel Bloom will join the series in the recurring role of Elaine Levitch, a dynamo who comes to WGBH by way of CBS to work with Julia on The French Chef. Stockard Channing, Craig Bierko, Judith Light, Isabella Rossellini, Tosin Morohunfola and Christian Clemenson all have guest roles in the new season. It has been a year and a half since the first season aired in spring 2022. They have used a real 1,000 years old market in France to shoot the scenes where Julia is shopping for groceries while on the trip there.

It will follow Sian (Jill Halfpenny), a lodger who is taken in by Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose). They have just bought the house of their dreams, a grand doer-upper in the countryside town that Jessica grew up in. However, as the financial crisis hits the family fall on tough times and suddenly their home is on the line. They are forced to pull their adopted teenage daughter Alice (Freya Hannan-Mills) out of her private school and into the local comprehensive. Nick finds another job, but it’s still not enough to make ends meet. With no other choice, Jessica decides they need to take in Sian as a lodger to help. Sian is beautiful, flirty, and mysterious and immediately begins sowing discord within the family – acting too familiar with Nick, borrowing Jessica’s clothes, and building an increasingly inappropriate rapport with Alice. Jessica begins to question if Sian is really who she claims to be? Quickly she realises something more insidious and twisted is going on and Jessica, Nick and Alice will be forced to fight for each other and their own lives.

Фавориты) in which Marina Aleksadrova again takes the imperial role which has been hers for the eighth year now. Ekaterina Dashkova is played by Anna Kovalchuk, the roles of the empress' opponents - Count Alexander Stroganov and book publisher Nikolai Novikov are performed by Dmitry Astrakhan and Alexey Kolgan, while lovers or the favorites of Catherine II are played by Sergei Novosad, Stanislav Tikunov, Dmitry Gudochkin. in 1779. Everyone already calls Empress Catherine II the Great at the instigation of her closest associate, the influential Princess Dashkova. His Serene Highness Prince Potemkin, the former favorite and married husband of Catherine, remains a faithful comrade-in-arms and, in fact, the second person in the state. Among them is a manifesto on succession to the throne. The Empress decides to transfer the throne to her grandson Alexander, bypassing the legal heir - her son Pavel. However, the Tsarevich is not going to give up his rights and will fight to the end! A new struggle for power begins. As you know from your history lessons, her son took over the power, but lasted very short and was succedeed by Alexander who became one of Russia's biggest rulers thanks to grandmother's teachings.
