NEW MINI SERIES ADAPTATION OF GREAT EXPECTATIONS AT BBC & FX, APPLE TO ADAPT EDITH WHARTON'S THE CUSTOM OF THE COUNTRY INTO MINI SERIES, NETFLIX & REESE WHITERSPOON TO ADAPT SARAH HAYWOOD'S THE CACTUS

     'GREAT EXPECTATIONS'
NEW MINI SERIES AT BBC AND FX
It has probably been done about million times if not more, both in movie and television versions, some rather recent ones (BBC had one less than ten

Taboo, See and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will pen this one as well following the sad story of orphan named Pip who eagerly abandons his humble origins and becomes a gentleman when his life, after a series of events, is transformed by a mystery benefactor. The story was originally published back in 1860 in a series of weekly chapters. This will be the second in a whole series of planned adaptations of Dickens' works over at BBC.

THE CACTUS NETFLIX ADAPTATION
Speaking of book adaptations, Netflix will turn Sarah Haywood's current best seller THE CACTUS into a romantic comedy movie and they've

The Cactus, which became an international success after being published last May, has the story revolving around an unexpected pregnancy at 45 which causes a reserved woman to rethink the structured life she has created for herself and leads her on an unconventional journey toward love, family and learning to embrace the unexpected. Reese will also star in Netflix' movie Your Place Or Mine which focuses on two long distance best friends who change each other’s lives when she decides to pursue a lifelong dream and he volunteers to keep an eye on her teenage son.

APPLE TURNS EDITH WHARTON'S CLASSIC INTO NEW TV SAGA
Meanwhile, rival streamer Apple TV + will turn Edith Wharton's 1913 popular novel THE CUSTOM OF THE COUNTRY into a limited series to be directed by Sofia Coppola who will also pen the script about a

Midwestern girl who attempts to ascend in New York City society. Considered by many to be her masterpiece, Edith Wharton's second full-length work is a scathing yet personal examination of the exploits and follies of the modern upper class. As she unfolds the story of Undine Spragg, from New York to Europe, Wharton affords us a detailed glimpse of what might be called the interior décor of this America and its nouveau riche fringes. Through a heroine who is as vain, spoiled, and selfish as she is irresistibly fascinating, and through a most intricate and satisfying plot that follows Undine's marriages and affairs, she conveys a vision of social behavior that is both supremely informed and supremely disenchanted.

  1. Love me some Reese Witherspoon in my life but, not set in that time, nope. Onto the next one. 🤷‍♂️

  2. I'll be skipping Great Expectations because I'm not a fan of Charles Dickens.. but I'll be tuning into the other two! The plot of The Cactus sounds so so, but Reese Witherspoon sells it for me.

    1. They do like to milk certain books to death when it comes to adaptations.

  3. Ever since her little arrest rant, I've lost a lot of respect for Reese. She's not the charming America's sweetheart they try to make her out to be. With that said, I may read the book and if I like it, will give the film a try.

    1. What was the rant? I've never liked her much, but I find her classless ever since she 'gave away' dresses from her collection to nurses battling covid. This of course she used for tax deduction and free promo for her fashion line, but situations like these always bring opportunists to the surface. I also never liked her as an actress. I do generally like the way she dresses, not the dresses on their own, but the clean cut style, most celebs prefer disgusting dirtiness. I hope Ryan and her won't be pushing their brats onto us, because nepotism is something that appals me most. Like Eathan and Uma who are pulling all their strings to push their talentless brat Maya Hawke onto us lately. Or Sindy Crawford and her unattractive mediocre 'model' daughter.

    2. Oh, wait, I remembered the rant, in her car, right? Nasty privileged biyatch.

    3. Yes, in her car drunk ranting "Do you know who I am!?" Like she's the fricken' queen of England or something. She does have a nice style though. Very southern chic. I did enjoy her book because it took me back to my roots, but for her as a person? No thanks.

Nepotism in Hollywood is disgusting. Nobody would look twice at most of the celeb kids if their parents didn't have connections. I think that's why I love school plays here. True talent can be seen in high school auditoriums way more than what the celeb kids can bring to the table.

    4. It is becoming wildly disgusting, here in my country all young actors and singers are celebrity children and all politicians in government have their siblings or spouses in lucrative deal with the government too.

  4. "Great Expectations" is my favourite Dickens novel, so I'm looking forward to seeing the new mini-series.

    1. Hope they will cast actors you like, I must see the version with Holiday Grainger and Jeremy Irwine, because I like those two.

  5. Charles Dicken's work is almost certainly always on library shelves in the city in my country. It looks like the movie from the book adaptation looks the same as the one pictured in the book.
