WHITE QUEEN TIDBITS
The ten part historical show, based on Phillipa Gregory's bestseller) will bring the thrilling story of the women caught up in the ongoing conflict for the English throne proving themselves as some of the most ruthless players in history who will stop at nothing to support their own
causes and those of the ones they love. It is a stunningly rich tale of love and loss, seduction and deception, betrayal and murder, vibrantly woven through the stories of three different yet equally driven women, in their quest for power as they manipulate behind the scenes of history:

WHITE QUEEN STORY
The year is 1464 and England has been at war for nine years battling over who is the rightful King of England: it is a war between two sides of the same family, The House of York and The House of Lancaster. The House of York’s young and devilishly handsome Edward IV (Max Irons, the son of Jeremy who didn't really inherit his father's talents,
but does own certain looks) is crowned King of England with the help of the master manipulator Lord Warwick “The Kingmaker” (James Frain who played a similar role in “The Tudors”). But when Edward falls in love and secretly marries a beautiful young widow, the commoner Elizabeth Woodville (gorgeous newcomer Rebecca Ferguson)
Warwick’s plan for control over the English throne comes crashing down around him. Frustrated by the new Queen’s influence he will stop at nothing to maintain his grip on the King. The captivating and beautiful Elizabeth Woodville marries for the love of her King, with the help of her mother Jacquetta (Oscar nominee Janet McTeer) a self-proclaimed sorceress. Elizabeth’s most fierce adversary is the staunchly loyal Lancastrian Margaret Beaufort (Amanda Hale)
a damaged and highly religious woman who would willingly lay down her life to see her young son Henry Tudor take the throne. And then there is Anne Neville (Faye Marsay), Lord Warwick The Kingmaker’s daughter – a pawn in her father’s battle for control, who finds her strength and ambition when she takes control of her destiny and marries the King’s younger brother Richard Duke of Gloucester
(delightful Aneurin Barnard from IRONCLAD). THE BORGIAS star David Oakes will put a medieval costume on himself again playing George, Duke of Clarence, Eleanor Tomlinson is Isabel Neville, and Tom McKay will portray Jasper Tudor. Juliet Aubrey, Frances Tomelty, Michael Maloney, Ben Lamb, Hugh Mitchell, Simon Ginty, Eve Ponsonby and Robert Pugh will also appear in the drama.

DeleteLook at those gorgeous blue eyes. Ooooh me like. I love these mini-series. The things those wacky aristocrats got up to. Tragedy and farce abounded in the history of Merry Olde England. These things always inspire me to paint as well. The costumes and those horses-fabulous.

I just hope the show won't be too teeny, since it seems all of the royals are in their late puberty :) We will enjoy the sets and costumes for sure!
DeleteOh God, don't let them direct this at a teen audience. Teening it up means dumbing it down. I need good, quality backstabbing aristocrats and Royals.

ReplyDeleteyep, and I'm extremely afraid that Max Irons, who was atrocious in RED RIDING HOOD, will again give a TWILIGHT "quality" of acting in the show :(
DeleteIt does seem a deliberately young cast - I'd be curious to hear from anybody who has read the book as to whether the ages appropriate to the source material.
ReplyDeleteI believe the ages do follow the real story from history, and I know that the book was extremely popular and beloved among the ladies :)
DeleteI think the ages for the actors are appropriate. Don't worry though because the characters get reasonably older what with the time span of the story being several decades.:) worry about a twilight like performance if none of them get older :))

Deleteme too, dahlink, I'm currently watching the final season of SPARTACUS and also BORGIA series, but not the one with Jeremy Irons, but a much better European version with John Doman, Art Malik, Stanley Weber, I like it so far, it is really hot and spicy and Juan Borgia is nom nom and then some nom nom.... and it airs right before THE WALKING DEAD on Mondays here, so I'm in heaven :)

Hey Dezmond! Would you believe I was a great movie-a-holic in the 90's? But I fell from grace when I married HM. He doesn't think of movies like I did. So I have lost that edge. Your blog give it back to me. Yay!
