It is a very sad truth that we have not had many new Non English period set series launch in the first half of the year even though your trusted spy is always scouring the globe searching for new costume dramas for you constantly.  But there is one historical series that I announced to you last year and that has finally started airing: new Spanish ten episode historical series BEGUINAS starring wildly gorgeous Yon Gonzalez whom we drooled after in Heirs to the Land epic drama, has started officially on Spanish top

The series will stream in ten episodes

streamer Atresplayer Premium at the end of April and still continues with new episodes every week. It will also air on their Antenna 3 channel in linear viewing.

 

THE SERIES IS SET IN

1559 Segovia and the plot follows Lucía de Avellaneda (Amaia Aberasturi) as she celebrates her engagement party with the Marquis of Peñarrosa, a nobleman chosen by her brother. This marriage promises to reinforce the financial and social status of the family, but in the middle of the celebrations her fiancée receives a letter from a woman claiming to be her mother requesting for her to come to her deathbed. Lucía there comes into contact
with the communities of Beguines, where her mother has summoned her. The young woman opens up to a new world that will make her question everything she has known until now. And, furthermore, she will find love through a pure and uncontrollable, but forbidden, passion. She will risk everything for Telmo

THIS NEW SPANISH PERIOD SET TV DRAMA

is set in the 16th century, with the plot inspired by the communities of Beguines, communities of women who since the 13th century defended an alternative way of life independent of marriage and the Church. The Beguines dedicated themselves to contemplation, but also to action, through crafts, teaching or caring for the sick that provided benefits to society while allowing them to be self-sufficient. The beguines were spaces of relationship and freedom that, despite having popular support, were highly questioned by those in power.

Amaia Aberasturi leads the series in the role of Lucía de Avellaneda, Yon González is the male lead as Telmo Medina!
