NEW HISTORICAL TV SERIES
Since we are in the middle of the writers' strike I have promised you we will cover that period by venturing more into the international waters, so
today we are voyaging over to Turkey where a new ten episode historical saga has already started airing earlier this month. LITTLE GENIUS: IBN SINA (Küçük Dahi: İbn-i Sina) kicked off its run last Sunday on TRT. The series depicts the the childhood of legendary Ibn Sina, commonly known in the West as Avicenna, one of the most significant 10th century physicians, astronomers, philosophers, and writers of the Islamic Golden Age, and the father of early modern medicine. THE STORY OF THE SERIES
Ibn-i Sina is a curious boy who seeks to discover knowledge, does not
fit into his age, and has an intelligence beyond his time. He reads
Aristotle's Metaphysics book many times in order to understand it, does
research instead 
of playing games like his peers, and mostly talks with
his best friend, the goat Socrates. Kaan Alp Uncle, Meriç Özkaya, Deniz
Bolışık, Ekin Pasvanoğlu, Mehmet Ali Kaptanlar, Recep Efe Ekemen take
part in 
the cast. Besides philosophy and medicine, Avicenna's corpus
later on included writings on astronomy, alchemy, geography and geology,
psychology, Islamic theology, logic, mathematics, physics, and works of
poetry.

As far as I have heard most networks are prepared for next season and will survive the strike, but since the strikers are now attacking and closing down sets of the shows that are currently in production, they might be faced with new problems. Most of Netflix shows are done outside of US so they do not probably give a flying pluck about it, and Amazon will finish most of their shows without showrunners. CW has been buying tons of Canadian shows and ABC too, methinks. Don't know what will broadcasters do with sitcoms and shows that are supposed to shoot during summer for Autumn.
DeleteBut aren't they exceeding thir power. They are just writers. Can they close down sets? I'm reconsidering Canadian shows. At least in the western genre they have come up wih some pretty good stuff
DeleteThey can, when they protest in front of the sets, the crew joins them due to moral reasons. Your Walker Independence has been cancelled, by the way a few days ago.
DeleteNeed me some English subtitles, but I'd watch this one. I love it when the genius comes through in the younger set.
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely, although Turkish historical series can bee annoying if they are too patriarchal and zealous, which they often are. Notice how no women in the cast have character posters, just men and bearded men with mustache LOL
DeleteTis the way of their culture still, sadly. I often wonder how much more society could advance if women in such countries weren't oppressed. Like this little genius here. When you let people shine, the whole world shines a little brighter.
DeleteThey are difficult to understand, they do have some shows with women behaving like in the west and dressing in a revealing way, and then they have some historical shows where they try to push them into the background especially after the series about Hurem Sultana. Women ruled Ottoman empire from the shadows for about hundred years during Hurem, Kosem, Safiye etc and it was the bloodiest period of their history, so there is the answer on your question LOOL
