SPOTLIGHT ON CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED WORLD WAR II HISTORICAL MINI SERIES WAR SAILOR WHICH HITS NETFLIX APRIL

  WAR SAILOR SERIES
COMING TO NETFLIX IN APRIL
There are two new WW2 set series that we can expect on Netflix during April and I will present you both this month, starting with WAR SAILOR which will sail onto the streamer April 5th. Norway's representative in the Oscars race this year has been turned into a limited three episode series with
War Sailor will stream from April 5th
some of the footage which hasn't been seen in the movie itself. It is based on true stories of Norwegian merchant sailors and their families during and after World War II!

THE STORY Alfred Garnes (Kristoffer Joner) is a working-class sailor, who has recently become the father of a third child. He and his childhood friend Sigbjørn Kvalen (Pal Sverre Hagen) are working on a merchant ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean when World War II breaks out. They are unarmed civilians on the front lines of a war they never asked to join. The two men struggle for survival in a spiral of violence and death, where at any moment German submarines may attack their valuable vessels. The war sailors have one goal: to survive and to return home. Meanwhile, Alfred's wife Cecilia (Ine Marie Wilmann) struggles through the war alone in Bergen, raising three children on her own, not knowing whether she will ever see Alfred again. When British aircrafts attempt to bomb the German submarine bunker in Bergen, they instead hit the primary school at Laksevåg and civilian homes at Nøstet, resulting in hundreds of civilian deaths. When the news reaches Alfred and Sigbjorn in Canada, they wonder if they have anything left at home to return to.

  1. I didn't know it was competing for an Oscar, more the reason to watch it.

    1. It was their national representative in the race for the Oscars but did not pass into the final five that got nominated. Each country has their Film Academy choosing a film that will be their representative each year usually somewhere before November or late October.

  2. Were the bunkers and school so close that British aircrafts missed the hit? It's horrible, war causes only death and despair to innocent peoples.

    1. Oh, when NATO and America bombed my country back in 1999 they even hit hospitals, schools, factories and homes even though they said they would only hit military targets, it is not missing accidentally, they often miss on purpose just for the sake of the killing. We had bombs falling in the middle of my city even though we are just a few km away from Hungary which was their ally. And this was all two decades ago not in the 1940s.

  3. Every once in a while something comes along to make me feel happy I haven’t canceled Netflix yet. This makes up for all of the other crap on there right now.

    1. There really isn't much to look forward from them this spring nor summer as far as I can tell.

    2. Sadly. But I hold in to hope more diamonds in the rough like this are added.

    3. Sometimes foreign drama does tend to appear there unannounced.

  4. Hmm, this might be a maybe. I've just finished watching Game of Thrones for the first time. It was just ok for me. I watched Creed 2 and liked that movie. What to watch next...
