DELIGHTFUL SWEET TOOTH TRAILER IS HERE FOR NETFLIX' NEW FANTASY TV SERIES! FLORENCE PUGH TO LEAD 19TH CENTURY IRELAND SET MOVIE DRAMA THE WONDER

   FLORENCE PUGH TO LEAD
WONDER 19TH CENTURY FILM
Florence Pugh will shoot Wonder this August
In our favourite period set genre news today, after her critically acclaimed role in Lady Macbeth (which wasn't overly great if you ask me, though), Florence Pugh is returning to the big gowns and historical costumes in THE WONDER a big screen adaptation of Emma Donoghue's novel with director Sebastian Lelio behind the helm. To start shooting in Ireland this August, it will have the story set in Irish Midlands, 1859 and follows an English nurse, Lib Wright (Florence Pugh), who is summoned to a tiny village to observe what some are claiming as a medical anomaly or a miracle – a girl said to have survived without food for months. Tourists have flocked to the cabin of eleven year old and a journalist has come down to cover the sensation. The Wonder is a tale of two strangers who transform each other’s lives, a psychological thriller, and a story of love pitted against evil. Stay tuned for more casting news on the project.

  6. I read The Wonder last year or the year before. I can't remember. I do remember the ending though and wanted to beat the hell out of that poor girl's parents in the end though.

    1. So I reckon it ain't a happy one.... We've had so many nasty parenting stories and cases here lately, it is like people have gone more crazy in recent times. Yesterday a 3 or 4 year old kid drowned in their house septic hole and when mom saw him drowning she did not jump in too and try to pull him out, she started screaming for neighbours. What a nasty idiot, if your kid is drowning you jump into the shit yourself even if it means you might die too. I'm just speechless these days...

    2. The end of the story still is a happy one, but all the events leading up to it is just bad parenting all the way around.

I can't imagine seeing my child in danger and not instinctively reacting to safe them in any way possible. It's mind blowing how many parents wouldn't though and that makes this a very sad world to live in.

    3. We currently have a lot of teens who just run away from home and the whole country is alerted, the police wastes monies on their search and then two days after they pop up from nowhere after they run away to be with their loves. Love at the age of 14, 15, 16??? Da eff? How do parents even allow for such things, I'd beat my kid silly if they were having a love life at that age.

    4. It's insane. We have that here too. Every day someone is sharing a "my child is missing. Please contact the police if you know their whereabouts!" post. And it always turns out the little heathen didn't want to follow rules or wanted to run off to be with their loves. Well, Susan, maybe if you would have parented them better when they were little, you wouldn't have that problem now. My girls would never pull shit like that with us. They know we'd knock them senseless. Plus, if they leave of their own free accord, they aren't allowed to come back when things go south. They better have a damn good plan in place when they leave this house without my permission.

    5. Oooh, I've read about that boy in your country who froze to death after his daddy caught him with weed or something and kicked him out of the house. Such a sad story. It was in the news last week, methinks.

    6. Well, I missed that story. That's incredibly sad. I'd never kick my children out of the house, but if they think they are grown up enough to leave on their own, have at it but this house does not have a revolving door.

We did end up taking Leah to a group home for teens when we found pills and alcohol in her room. We needed time to gather our thoughts and make a plan for her future without her causing more issues in the meantime. It was the best decision for us all at the time. But to just kick a kid out without anywhere safe for them to go? That's just terrible. I'm really sad that nobody stepped up and gave that boy a place to stay for a few days if it was that cold out. Allison has come to me several times and said "so and so got kicked out and needs somewhere to stay for a bit. Can they come here?" It's always a yes and no questions asked on why they needed a place to stay. They usually go home a day or two later, but I've never given anyone a time frame on when they have to leave. I think sometimes parents and kids just need to step away from each other for a few days when home life is just too tense, then come back when things feel a bit calmer and work things out. We need more people willing to open their doors and provide a safe shelter for kids in those situations.

    7. I remember that moment with Leah, sadly.
We had a kid whose pa kicked him out of the house for being gay and mother hid his ID thinking he would then come back. But he ended up in Belgrade and without an ID could not do anything, he could not find a job, rent a place, get a charity help, because without an ID you basically do not exist and nobody can help you. It was so nasty.

You is such a good mommy, deary!

  7. Sweet Tooth for the win! So cute! The only reason I could ever imagine anyone hunting him is to give him a hug...
