After revealing the airing date a few weeks ago, NatGeo has now released the first trailer for their new epic TV series
BARKSKINS
which will start May 25th with two episodes back to back in following
four weeks in 172

Marcia Gay Harden, the series, based on the novel by Pulitzer-winner

Annie Proulx, follows a
disparate group of outcasts who must navigate brutal hardships,
competing interests, and tangled loyalties at the crossroads of
civilization in late 1600s New France.
The Story Of Barkskins Is Set
in Wobik, a small settlement in what is now the Canadian province
of Quebec. As the Catholic Church sends Jesuit priests to convert the
indigenous people,

DeleteI'm guessing cold weather turns people into freaks, like in Finland, their folklore is ever so dark and they consider heavy metal their folk music.
DeleteImagine being a young lady's whose whole purpose in life is to reproduce to help the longevity of a colony? Shows like this are interesting but also make me happy that times changed so drastically.
ReplyDeleteImagine being a young man whose purpose is to work in the field, dig stone or cut wood until your back breaks? Being born just to toil like a horse or die in a war or in a street brawl when somebody touches your sister, mother, wife... Horrid times for everyone. Back in those days women were considered privileged actually because they were protected and did not have to deal with the outside world and that world was back then truly grim and dark. Modern women will view women of old times as humiliated, but they were mostly thankful to live safe in their homes and towers while their husbands, sons, brothers, fathers were risking their lives every day keeping them safe because the world back then was lawless and did not have police for protection and courts for justice.
DeleteI could imagine men had it just as bad as women during that time. My daughter was reading something for school and the lesson was that flowers are traditional in marriage because they were used to hide the funk of the people who didn't bathe for days. On top of all the manual labor, living daily in fear, childbearing with no pain meds, etc, you couldn't even bathe. It all reiterates my previous feelings, thank God times have changed - for sexes, race, and everything. :)
DeletePeople did live like animals for a very long time, and some still do LOL in many countries bathing every day isn't considered a must. When we were kids our mother changed our clothes and bathed us just once a week.
DeleteEep!! Our doctor tells us not to bathe our babies every day because it gets rid of their natural oils. Instead they should be bathed every other day. When I told my mom that she had a fit. She began ranting and insisted that the doctor only said that as a way to get us to conserve water?? Um, ok, mom.. LOL
DeleteIt's probably true, but babies probably don't get dirty as us adults except the bum part :)
DeleteMy doctor also said every other day because daily was causing the kid’s eczema to flare. Jason bathes daily, but us girls go every other day. It’s made a world of difference in the health of our skin. We do use the wet toilet wipes after using the restroom , so our bums aren’t ick. Through, I have really been considering adding a bidet to the bathroom. I’ve heard such wonderful things about them!
DeleteGiven your health problems I'm surprised you don't already have it, it is highly recommended for us who poop tons of poop a day LOL Plus I bet it is like a lil' spa for your bum on a daily basis :) I could never go to bed without bathing, but I'm a fat smelly walrus.
DeleteThat’s what Jason says too about bathing. He’s a fatty that gets hot and has to wash it all off at the end of the day. Sometimes twice in the summer.
DeleteYes, being fat is like having a fur coat constantly, in winter it is better for us, in summer it is pure hell.

DeleteLaura Ingalls Wilder .. As in "Little House on the Prairie". I lived with my nose in those books growing up. They are a great read for middle school and early high school students.

DeleteLittle House on the Prairie books were so good! Yes, they were stories about pioneer life. There was even a popular television series based on the books that my mom watched all the time.

DeleteMy grandma STILL watches reruns of that show on the Hallmark channel. I may watch too.. sometimes... lol!
DeleteGrandmas here usually watch Spanish, Turkish and Indian daily soaps which air almost all day long and are utter trash, especially the Indian ones.
DeleteI’ll make sure this one is saved to my Hulu. I’m still not loving that streaming platform, but it’s tolerable when there are good shows like this one to watch on there.
ReplyDeleteHope they at least have some films. I only ever liked their Harlots, and I don't even think I will watch Great next month. I find it borderline offensive, but I'm starting Last Kingdom tonight.
