Mehmed II, known as Mehmed the Conqueror, which chronicles his
astonishing and fabled rise from 13-year-old Child Sultan to toppling
Constantinople in 1453 at the age of 21

| The series was shot in English, although not very good as you can hear in the trailer |
and becoming the ruler of the
Ottoman Empire. The series also features historians including
Roger
Crowley and
Jason Goodwin who give their in-depth analysis.
Promising, a fascinating subject!
ReplyDeleteJudging by the trailer it seems they will be distorting the facts a bit, not surprised as the production is Turkish.
DeleteYikes, anything that resulted in "death, rape, slavery, genocide and gruesome tyranny" can't be good. Although, I really love that red dress. Sometimes I want a dress up station like my daughter as an excuse to wear similarly fancy frocks.
ReplyDeleteI don't think real Despina Mara wore dresses like that, she was Serbian and was allowed to keep her traditions at the court as sultan's official wife (he wanted to show Europe he is not barbaric) which means that she probably wore more toned down gowns covered from head to toe and she also kept herself surrounded with our Orthodox nuns and priests as she was allowed to keep her religion.
DeleteI see. With the exception of the color, it looks very toned down to me, but I guess for that time it would be considered a deep V neck. Either way, it’s beautiful!
DeleteYes, ladies at that time had veils going around their necks and heads, covering hair, but revealing the face, certainly no cleavages or skin showing especially not in Mara who was very religious and modest. And she certainly wouldn't be encouraging him to take the city as the city was the only thing that stood between his bloody intention and her homecountry of Serbia in the north.
