From Life Pleasant To Life Of A Peasant
Born into an oligarch family, young Grigory is so caught up in his pampered lifestyle he thinks he is above the law. When he goes too far with his escapades and faces a jail sentence, his billionaire father takes radical measures. With the help of his old-time friend, a psychologist, he comes up with a plan to 'rehabilitate' his unruly son. They find an abandoned village and reconstruct it, 19th century style. Soon after that, Grigory gets into an arranged,make-believe car accident,
and "goes back in time". And so, a sophisticated psychological
experiment begins, where a spoiled rich kid gets 'reincarnated' as a
serf who lives in a barn on his master's estate. All the people he meets
there are hired actors whose job is to impact Grigory's personality in
such a way as to turn his life around.
There are secret surveillance
cameras hidden in every corner of the 'estate', and a team of
psychologists watches Grigory's every move. He will have to learn how to
communicate properly with people, to appreciate life's simple
pleasures, and to do honest work. He will discover his true self and
find true love.

That's actually a pretty funny "fish out of water" idea, if peasants' lives were not historically so awful.
ReplyDeleteBut that is the idea, his life has to be awful there in order for his real life to become better :) Too bad I don't have English trailer, the Russian one is really hilarious, tons of funny lines in it.
DeleteWhat a great idea! I agree that the script is refreshing. I feel like everything on TV is a remake or a rethought these days. I don't understand the trailer, but it does look like he had the life!

DeletePerhaps the younger generation of viewers in former communist countries, finds this movie hilarious, but not the older ones for whom re-education is a traumatic subject.
ReplyDeleteBut what does that have to do with the film itself? His dad is not reeducating him in a political way, but changing him into a better person.
DeleteThe film deals with re-education. The mere idea of re-education, political or not, can be traumatic. Communism is dead, but not its influence.
DeleteAnyway, I find the trailer rather infantile; probably because I don't understand the language.
I liked the trailer because I think most of today's spoilt brats need some tough education and he was really problematic, he even got arrested for drugs, and in this way his father tries to educate him by taking away from him all the benefits of modern life.
DeleteI know a few kids who could benefit from this kind of scenario. The movie looks quite funny and delightfully refreshing.
