AMAZON PRIME SETS CAST FOR ULTRA LAVISH MEDIEVAL SPANISH TV SERIES EL CID WITH JAIME LORENTE IN THE LEAD ROLE OF THE 11TH CENTURY WARRIOR

      'EL CID' EPIC TV SERIES
TO BE LED BY JAIME LORENTE
Jaime Lorente scored the lead role in El Cid
A set of more than 43,000 square feet, natural settings, hundreds of extras, special effects, eight screen writers and a team of more than 200 professionals and 11,000 people involved, yep, that definitely sounds like one major project: Amazon's new Spanish language epic series EL CID is, as Variety reports, one of the most ambitious original Amazon productions to date in all of Europe and the largest historical series ever shot in Castilian Spanish. And now they've also set the cast for the unique project of extremely lavish scope: popular Spanish actor Jaime Lorente will take the lead role of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar in a series inspired by the legendary medieval war hero, whose deeds inspired one of the most important of medieval Spanish epic poems, El Cantar de Mio Cid.  Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar is a fascinating figure, a true hero whose exploits have been
Alvaro Rico, Daniel Tatay and Francisco Ortiz
perpetuated over the centuries and who has been played by Charlton Heston in the famous classic Hollywood movie. He lived in times when the struggles for power and the coexistence of cultures turned the Iberian Peninsula into a border between two worlds in conflict. This one will be directed by Adolfo
Jaime Olias, Nicolas Illoro and Amr Waked
Martínez with two-time Oscar winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel) writing the original music. The series is already shooting in Soria and will continue in Burgos and Aragon, where the Sultanate of Zaragoza will be recreated. Amazon Prime will air the series in more than 200 countries around the world.

      Who Is In The Cast?
Jaime Lorente will play Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, accompanied by José Luis García Pérez in the role of King Fernando I the Great, Elia Galera as Queen Sancha la Bella, Carlos Bardem as the Count of León and
Jose Luis Garcia, Carlos Bardem and Gines Garcia Milan
Juan Echanove in the role of bishop. Alicia Sanz joins the team as the Infanta Urraca, Francisco Ortiz will be Sancho the Strong, Jaime Olías will play Alfonso VI, Lucía Guerrero is Jimena, Lucía Díez will be the Infanta Elvira, Nicolás Illoro is King García, Juan Fernández is Rodrigo,
Alicia Sanz, Zohar Liba and Elia Galera
the El Cid's grandfather, Pablo Álvarez will be Orduño, Ginés García Millán will be King Ramiro de Navarra, Daniel Tatay is Beltrán the son of Ramiro, David Castillo is the squire Lisardo and Álvaro Rico is Nuño. The cast is completed by Amr Waked, who plays the Sultan of Zaragoza Al-Muqtadir and Zohar Liba as Abu Bakr.

  1. With over 11,000 crew members, this is bound to be a hit! I wonder if they will have it with English subtitles. It would be a good way to enhance my Spanish. :)

    1. I'm guessing Amazon always has that option with subtitles as it airs everywhere around the world.

  2. Two tiny words 'El Cid' , big project.
I don't think, however, the outcome with all this bunch of actors displayed here, will be more successful than the version with Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren.

    1. I don't remember Charlton at all from El Cid, but I vividly remember Sophia from it and her unusual costumes in it, they were quite different from most Hollywood movies.

    1. It will have subs, geez, people :)

    2. It HAS to have English, French, Portuguese, and German subtitles -- and subtitles for over 200 countries. Amazon is investing in this as a major rollout!

    3. Yes, I think they always have subs for all foreign programmes.

  4. I'll need the subs, for sure. I watched a fondant cake video on Facebook today and only caught about one word of his out of 20 (stupid facebook not having subtitles!) I had a goal at the beginning of the year to enhance my Spanish speaking skills, but alas, I failed. I'll try again next year.

    1. I hate when Facebook does not have subs even for English videos, I never use volume there. I finished their La Peste or Plague series last week, the first season, wasn't overly impressed, but I did like their Cathedral del Mar, at least the first five episodes, the end was horrid.

    2. I hardly have my volume on anymore, no matter what platform I’m using. Something really needs to pique my interest to have me switch it on these days.

    3. I switch it in the evenings on YouTube when I relax myself with some music, currently I'm really into Ukrainian pop for some reason LOL The singer of that group I posted last night on Facebook looks like Vincent Kaitreiser.

    1. Spain and Italy have taken over epic series production from UK! Wonder if France will wake up and join the race in which Russia already excels massively.

  7. It's time for a whole new EL CID! The 1961 film is epic but too rated G-ish! It needs to be at BRAVEHEART/KING ARTHUR/GLADIATOR & 300 staus of rated R! Blood and sex!
