STUNNING POSTERS AND TRAILER FOR HISTORICAL EPIC THE WARRIOR QUEEN OF JHANSI WITH DEREK JACOBI, RUPERT EVERETT, NATHANIEL PARKER, BEN LAMB, DEVIKA BHISE

'WARRIOR QUEEN OF JHANSI'
The film is out in India this November
WHO FOUGHT AND DIED FOR THE
FREEDOM OF HER PEOPLE
I've written about this one a couple of times over the years, but now it is finally getting into cinemas with November set as the release month for THE WARRIOR QUEEN OF JHANSI previously known as Swords and Sceptres, which boasts a rather strong British cast led by Derek Jacobi as Lord Palmerston, Rupert Everett as Sir
She was the queen of Jhansi in mid 19th century
Hugh Rose, Nathaniel Parker as Sir Robert Hamilton and Jodhi May as evil Queen Victoria herself!

The Warrior Queen Of Jhansi
also starring Ben Lamb and directed by female director Swati Bhise (the producer of Dev Patel's The Man Who Knew Infinity), is a sweeping historical tale of women's empowerment, which brings the true story of Lakshmibai (played by Indian star Devika Bhise whom you have watched before in The Accidental Husband and The Man Who Knew Infinity with Dev Pathel and Jeremy Irons), the historic
She died aged 30 in the battle with 5,000 of her soldiers
Queen of Jhansi who fiercely led her army against the British East India Company in the infamous mutiny of 1857. From Queen Elizabeth to Queen Victoria, two-and a half centuries of East India Company rule will be reversed by its attempt to crush India's Warrior Queen. Lakshmibai is known as one of the most prominent figures within the independence movement of India. The passion to free her province from colonial rule led this young woman to become one of the greatest generals of the Indian army and to go down in history for her bravery, strategic acumen, and as a force to reckon with by the East India Company and the British Raj. The Warrior Queen of Jhansi is the story of the woman who lived, fought and died for the freedom of her people.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post on another great female ruler!

  1. Derek Jacobi - say no more. What a great actor!
The protagonist of the movie, a sort of Jean d'Arc of India, looks very impressive in the militant posters of her as rebel against British colonialism!

    1. Absolutely adore Jacobi, he and Ian McKellen are the last of the titans, now that O'Toole and Ustinov are dead :(

    1. Sadly, she was butchered together with her soldiers.

    2. Rather get butchered with my soldiers than run like a coward. She stood for what she believed in, even if it cost her her life.

    3. That is how my country always acted too throughout history. I remember when our King signed a pact with the Nazis (to prevent his people dying) ahead of WW2, the people went to streets, threw the king down, kicked him out of the country and declared war against the Nazis only to lose about half of the country in it.

    4. The people of Serbia have shown their strength and resilience time and time again. It's truly horrible so many lives have been lost, but you can't help but admire how they've taken many beatings but still end up standing in the end ♥

    5. Barely standing, in recent decade, with the powers of our evil president ruling, close to 500,000 people have left the country and moved to the West. I'd do it too if I had where to go and if I was healthy and strong. Only the crazy people remain here.

  5. I have never heard of this story before, but it's empowering. I didn't realize that the Indian culture allowed for female generals during that time, or was it due to the colonization?

    1. India has tons of such stories, methinks, it is just a drop in the whole ocean of their fight against British oppression. She was the queen, so she was also the general.
