NEW 2019 TV COMEDIES: BEN LAWSON TO LEAD NANA SITCOM WITH KATEY SAGAL AT ABC! NO GOOD NICK NETFLIX SITCOM POSTER WITH MELISSA JOAN HART, SEAN ASTIN

BEN LAWSON TO LEAD
NANA SITCOM PILOT AT ABC
Australian hunk Lawson is the new Nana lead
Comedy updates for you today, starting with a cast change in one of the upcoming new multi camera sitcom pilots: I've informed you that ABC has ordered NANA hybrid TV comedy pilot and that it will be led by Katey Sagal and Josh Cooke, but now the male lead has been given to Ben Lawson instead Cooke because they decided to change the lead character after the first table reads.

NANA
The pilot for possible new sitcom centres on Alex (Ben Lawson), a fire chief in Indianapolis and an obsessive dad, who after the death of his wife, is forced to invite his brash and bawdy mother-in-law, Nana (Katey Sagal),  into his home to help raise the two grand daughters she barely knows. Sagal recently had a very successful sitcom gig in delightful Superior Donuts next to comedy legend Judd Hirsch.

'NO GOOD NICK' SITCOM
GETS 1ST POSTER WITH MELISSA JOAN HART AND SEAN ASTIN
Netflix has, meanwhile, issued first poster (sadly, no trailer yet) for their new multicam sitcom NO GOOD NICK which got April 15th date for the premiere
No Good Nick starts in a month!
of its 20 episode first season!
Melissa Joan Hart and Sean Astin star as Liz and Ed, a hyper competitive career mom and lovable but dorky “fun dad,” who unwittingly welcome 13 year old Nick — short for Nicole (Siena Agudong) — into their family of four before realizing she is a street smart con artist with a secret agenda: She has infiltrated the family with the intention to get revenge on them for unknowingly ruining her life. But as Nick gets to know the family, she will find compassion for them and will struggle with whether or not she can ultimately go through with the plan. Kalama Epstein and Lauren Lindsey Donzis will play their kids in Netflix' second multicam ever after The Ranch.

  1. Orphans are not an easy subject for comedy stuff. I suppose the emphasis in "Nana", on the MIL as being "bawdy" is a hint to the nature of the comic factor in this series.

A widower needing the help of his MIL to raise his maternal orphaned kids is, sadly, an everyday reality. She'll usually do a fairly good job with the kids, but interfere in his personal life and even prevent him from remarrying. I say this from personal knowledge of a case.

    1. Sitcom means half hour TV comedy, so, yes, it has a very strong comic factor :)
It's true, about mothers in law, sadly.

  2. I love Katey Sagal -- if anyone excels at playing brash and bawdy, she does!

    1. she was nice as the policeman in Superior Donuts but horrible in Bastard Executioner, the disgusting flop project of her bizarre husband.

  3. No Good Nick sounds like a winner. I do like Melissa Joan Hart. Sean Astin looks likes he's packed on a few pounds, no?

    1. it will be very strange convincing us she's married to him after Joey :) But we will now have Australian hunk Ben Lawson, who is hot as hell, in that other sitcom! I do ever so love me multicams with hot leads. I still miss Ryan McPartlin from Living with Fran. I was hoping someone would cast Hunter Parrish but he just got a gig in some serious drama not comedy :(

    2. You just had to bring up Joey. Now my whole day is ruined since he's no longer gracing our screens :( Tell Hunter skip the drama and give us comedy. The world needs more laughter and cute boys.

    3. I do think the new season might have more multicams than usual, but it all depends on how many of them will be picked up for series. This season also had more multicams than the previous years. I think I will be covered during summer with the ones I did not manage to watch over the year - Cool Kids, Fam, Happy Together, Fuller House etc.
