   'MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS'
NEW POSTERS & TRAILER ARE IN!
The movie was directed by Josie Rourke
All bow, peasants, the queens have arrived! Are you excited, spylings, for the premiere of lavish historical drama MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS which should crown the Autumn movie season when it opens December 7th in Northern American cinemas? Or are you too put off by Saoirse Ronan's overly crude Scottish accent (the real Mary spoke with the French one after growing up on the French court as the dauphin's fiancée) or by the historical inaccuracies (Mary and Bess have never actually met in person but they seem to talk a lot eye to eye in this one)? The movie will open in the rest of the world in January
Mary's son George was Elizabeth's heir in the end
following Mary Stuart's attempt to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England, which finds her condemned to years of imprisonment before facing execution.

MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS
explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling
The movie is based on a book by John Guy
Elizabeth I. Each young Queen beholds her "sister" in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth's sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones!

  1. "How did it come to this?" Mary, Queen of Scots, brought it all on herself, quite frankly. When you poke the lion, expect to be clawed.

    1. but she thought she was the lioness, British throne was hers by right! I do like the scene when she tells Bess that she would be killing her queen and that she is inferior to her :) She had such a sad life, though, especially when they took her child from her. And when she constantly had to marry another guy to keep the power which she never really had.

  2. I remember seeing another movie with this title many many years ago and a horrifying scene at the end where someone was repeatedly stabbed with a rapier over and over. A shame this won't be more historically accurate, looks like some good actors!

    1. it will be visually stunning, though, methinks, the visuals in the trailer left me quite in awe! Hope Margot's acting chops have improved, she was never overly good and extremely overrated, but gorgeous though. The same goes for Saoirse, mediocre for me, but one of those actresses that think they are better than they are. She does not have the presence.

  3. I was thinking about the costume, hair and make-up designers in this sort of historical drama. They have to be the best and most hard working people!
There's a lot of research to be done, and then, dealing with the actors who can make life quite difficult.

    1. it is sometimes amazing what research they have to do. I remember the costume designer for Shekhar Kapur's Elizabeth movie speaking of how she had to be very careful not to use blue in costumes because Tudors apparently did not wear blue at that time. And how, since there isn't a scene in which Elizabeth is wearing a crown, she created a special gown for one of the scenes which looked more regal than others to give her that royal superiority at least in one scene.

  4. If you can overlook the bullshit of them not staying true to history, it does look worthy of watching. I think it looks visually beautiful and the costumes and makeup are wonderful from what I can tell from the trailer.

    1. yes, and it has some really memorable lines, too bad Saoirse does not have the presence and charisma to say them like some other actress would.

    2. She does seem a bit bland with her speaking in role form, but I do think she's cute and quirky in her every day speaking. Maybe she should draw from her real life to pump some life into her speaking roles.

  5. Too bad it's not completely historically accurate. It looks like it would be a good drama otherwise.
