  1. "Das Boot"(U-boat,submarine)is an authentic WW2 movie based on an autobiographical novel, and as such, highly captivating.

It reminds me that our PM has been questioned recently in a corruption investigation surrounding the purchase for the Navy of submarines from a german shipbuilder.(PM was not a suspect, some of his confidants were). Anyway, the investigation brought about great public interest in submarines in general, and crew adjustment both in regular times and war times, in particular.

    1. wow, you've got submarines! I don't think we do, but I've never looked into it. We don't have any sea, but we might have some river submarines if there even is such a thing :) Do kids still have to go through two years of army in Israel, both girls and boys?

  2. Yes, we do. We have had two major naval tragedies of submarines which got sunk with the crews: 'Dakar' and 'Eilat'.
Yes, both men and women are required to serve in the army.

    1. serving army was obligatory here too, but just for men, until about ten years ago, but our army barracks and conditions in them were horrible, literally like in real war or even worse.

  3. I am truly worried about this series it is a daunting project to tackle. However, even if this series is an abomination at least it will spur an interest in the original film, the original miniseries, and Lothar-Günther Buchheim’s bestselling and highly acclaimed claustrophobic novel.

    1. we shall keep our fingers crossed, but you know that nothing is done today as good as it was in the old days, sadly, at least when it comes to depth and storytelling.

    1. it is a chance for Sky Germany to do a project of their own and market it internationally, which is good as we get some other perspective other then the Hollywood one. Rai's Medici and French Versailles proved to be much better shows than most of US and UK ones.

  5. I see they've added an entirely new subplot about the woman soldier/spy in order to bring some gender balance to what is otherwise an intensely male story. Probably a good thing! I loved the original movie and hope I get to see the TV series sometime.

  6. We don't subscribe to Hulu either, but this series may be what gets Jason to sign up. You know this is the type of series that keeps him glued to the tv and out of my hair.
