  1ST 'CARMILLA' PHOTOS
18TH CENTURY VAMPIRE DRAMA
Speaking of period set drama, here is another one, but with elements of horror! We have first photos from historical horror drama CARMILLA based on Sheridan Le Fanu's 1871 novel set in the late 18th century! The cast
Emily Harris is directing the movie as her debut feature
includes Tobias Menzies, Greg Wise and Jessica Raine, who are no strangers to the genre of costume drama.

THE STORY OF CARMILLA
Broadchurch's Hannah Rae and young German actress Devrim Lingnau are also in the cast next to illusionist Scott Silven. Inspired by one of the earliest novels on vampires, set in the late 1780s, CARMILLA follows Miss Fontaine (Jessica Raine), governess to 15-year-old Lara (Hannah Rae) who lives in total isolation in her family home. Struggling to find an outlet for her burgeoning sexuality, Lara is enchanted by the mysterious Carmilla (Devrim Lingnau) and the pair strike up a passionate relationship.
The production has started back in September
However, with rumours and superstition rife and with the exhortation of the family doctor (Tobias Menzies), Carmilla’s presence in their home begins to strike fear into those around her.

  1. Hiroshi Abe is probably the japanese gardener, and what roles do the two british actors play?

I'm not familiar with the malaysian novel on which the movie is based. I know however, that malays, chinese, japanese always have some unfinished business between them.

    1. it is the time when Britain ruled Malaysia, so I'm guessing they're the posh owners of the gardens or some gents like that.
Malayans are mostly Muslim so I can imagine they would clash with the Chinese and Buddhists.

  2. Summer does seem to be a bit slow in Hollywood (unless you count the endless superhero or Star Wars flicks). I'm looking forward to what's on the horizon this fall and winter.

    1. but believe it or not, it is the biggest earning summer in many years, a record breaking one even though I haven't noticed a worthy movie over there since like forever.
I will probably be happier with the end of the year when Mary Queen of Scots, Mortal Engines and some other movies arrive. No Star Wars this year!

    2. I believe it. I haven't been to the theater all year, but we did go see The Incredibles. The show only had 2 seats left when we got there. Thankfully it was just me and Allison that went and the leftover seats were together.

    3. Jurrasic World will probably rule this weekend in cinemas again.

  3. Hmm, somehow the plot of Carmilla doesn't interest me as of yet. But who knows, maybe they'll do something interesting with the concept!

  4. The Carmilla novel by Le Fanu written back in 1871 had the romantic overtones, and the series featured the same sex romance as well.

    1. Should be fun to watch then! Although we were disappointed by the last Victorian adaptation MY COUSIN RACHEL, the novel was much better than the movie
