FARE WELL, MY QUEEN
The first one is FAREWELL, MY QUEEN, a French film which premiered this February at famous Berlin Film Festival and will hit US theatres July 13th. Directed by Benoit Jacquot
the story of the film is set in Versailles in July 1789. Unrest is
growing in the court of King Louis the XVI. The people are rebelling - a
revolution is imminent. Behind the facades of the royal palaces,
everyone is thinking of fleeing, including Queen Marie Antoinette (Diane Kruger) and her entourage. Among her ladies-in-waiting is Sidonie Laborde (Lea Seydoux) who as the Queen's reader has become quite intimate with her. With great amazement, Sidonie experiences the first hours of the French Revolution. Her status as courtier makes her the best kind of narrator in the film - both an insider and an observer of the royals. She describes the final days before revolution engulfs the palace with insight and surprising slices of humor.
AGE OF THE DRAGONS
And to finish in the epic style, here's an epic film which hits cinemas July 24th! AGE OF THE DRAGONS is a re-imagining of HermanMelville's classic novel "Moby Dick". Set in a mythical realm where Captain Ahab and crew hunt dragons for the vitriol that powers their world, Ishmael, a charismatic harpooner joins their quest. Ahab's adopted daughter Rachel, beautiful and tough, runs the hunting vessel. Ahab's obsession is to seek revenge on a great "White Dragon" that slaughtered his family when he was young and left his body scarred and mauled, drives the crew deeper into the heart of darkness. In the White Dragon's lair Ahab's secrets are revealed and Rachel must choose
between following him on his dark quest or escaping to a new life with Ishmael. The cast includes Corey Sevier, Danny Glover, Vinnie Jones...

ReplyDeleteNew York City post? :P
Deleteage of dragons looks good.
ReplyDeleteit's a surprisingly nice trailer!
DeleteAge of Dragons looks absolutely fantastic!! I'm a fan of Vinnie Jones too.
ReplyDeleteit's a nice little fantasy flick :)
DeleteDezzy - It's got dragons and hunky men. Yep, I'll be watching it. =D
ReplyDeleteyep, it has Corey Savier :)
Delete"Farewell, My Queen" sounds like MY type of movie!
ReplyDeleteglad to hear that, Debs, I'm sure you've noticed the kissing scenes between the queen and her maid :P
DeleteThe queen surely is not my scene. The dragons though looks great and it has your fav mel gibson mate haha
ReplyDeletenot mine either, I usually find French films strange :)
DeleteI've always been intrigued about the life of Antoinette mostly because I think what we've read about her and real life must be somewhat different. I think this movie will also show a side that may not be that accurate as well.
ReplyDeleteI think she was raised and then lived under a glass bell ... which doesn't really justify anything historically...
DeleteInteresting new take on two old concepts. Not sure about either one, but I'll probably watch Dragons when it comes out on DVD. That dragon looks awesome, very well developed.
ReplyDeleteLove your new digs Dezzy. Are you a morning person?
......dhole
I am, Donnzie, why do you ask? :) I'm not a night person definitely, if I miss the morning and don't use that part of the day I feel lost :) I usually wake up before 9AM.
DeleteThat Farewell My Queen is a fresh and new take on the story; an interesting perspective on history ~
ReplyDeleteI think I have viewed that trailer Dragon before ~ Very good too ~
you did, I posted the trailer before :)
Deletei feel Dezzyyyyyy :)
ReplyDeleteHope it's a pleasant feeling :)
DeleteAngry Dragons actually sounds a bit intriguing. I'm all for mystical worlds and dragons!!
ReplyDeleteand plus semi naked Corey Sevier definitely helps a lot :)
DeleteA lesbian queen hmm... would be interesting to see how all those stiffs in the movie respond haha. Angry Dragons sounds a bit like Reign of Fire, and Danny Glover sounds a bit like Captain Ahab, but we'll see if it's as good as either of those two :P
ReplyDeleteOooh, I did like REIGN OF FIRE, the combo of Gerry Butler, Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey is a rare find in Hollywood.
DeleteWow, both of these trailers look incredible. I'd love to see both of these for sure. Especially all those hunks like Corey. ;)
ReplyDeleteCorey is a nice little spice, isn't he?
DeleteAge of dragons trailer looks impressive, i might go check it out
ReplyDeleteit's a rather impressive trailer for a relatively cheep project.
Deletenever heard of that age of dragons. Maybe ill check it out, looks interesting
ReplyDeleteit didn't have the best of marketing :)
DeleteI'm a fan of period movies, Dezz. That's a beautiful green dress, too. When it comes to dragon movies... well, I've never been impressed. It always looks fake. CGI experts still find it difficult to imitate a dragon's weight. (The same goes for space ships.) The only dragon that looked heavy enough is the one in Harry Potter 4. Don't laugh.... I'm particularly allergic to dragons that sound like Connery.
ReplyDeleteI did notice the focus on the green dress :)
DeleteI liked Safira dragon in ERAGON. Her voice especially
Voices are never to be underestimated... I love a good voice.
ReplyDeleteme too :) My own is velvety and elven... I could narrate Lord of the Rings :) And it's also very calming, which my students liked back in the days....
DeleteI can't take Vinnie Jones seriously in anything. He makes any movie he's in cheesy.
ReplyDeleteit true!
DeleteSo glad you posted about "Farewell, My Queen" -- but you should update your poster art! The new poster debuted online a few weeks ago: http://www.afterellen.com/content/2012/06/morning-brew-thurs-june-7-official-poster-farewell-my-queen-kate-moennig-djing-san
