1ST PICS OF JUDE LAW & AARON JOHNSON IN "ANNA KARENINA"! AMAZING CONCEPT ART FROM "JOHN CARTER" SF EPIC! RUSSELL CROWE & WILL SMITH IN "WINTER'S TALE"! KATE HUDSON IS "EVERLY"

Are you ready for some fresh movie pics? The first two come from something that we didn't really need - a new film adaptation of famous ANNA KARENINA which Joe Wright (ATONEMENT) pretty much ruined for me by casting his pet actress Keira Knightley in the lead role /shudders/. And it seems that he decided to ruin the film furthermore
by making two male leads looking pretty horrid in the film: Jude Law as Karenin and Aaron Johnson as Vronsky. I'm not sure who on earth gave Aaron that horrid hairdo? Other members of the cast include Matthew McFadyen and Emily Watson. The whole behind the
scenes team is filled with Oscar nominated or awarded costume, set and production designers, composers and cinematographers, but I'm not sure it will help them much with such a miscast lead role /shudders again/.
HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
According to "MovieWeb" Akiva Goldsman's first directorial effort WINTER'S TALE has cast Russell Crowe (who is by the way Darren Aronofsky's new candidate for the lead role in his NOAH epic, a bad idea if you ask me, Michael Fassbender is
the only choice for me) and Will Smith. The unusual story is set in both present day and the late 19th century, and centers on a thief who falls in love with the Irish heiress he just robbed, right before she dies. He later learns that he possesses the gift of reincarnation, and becomes determined to save her life. Will Smith will play a judge, while Russell Crowe is portraying the mob boss Pearly Soames, who is trying to kill the burglar. Both the thief and heiress have not been cast yet, and it is said that a flying white horse plays an important part in the story. I'm sure you will agree that Kate Hudson just doesn't seem to find a big role for herself, and it seems her next one won't be great either: she will take the lead in EVERLY, in which, as "Variety" reports, she will play will play a down-on-her-luck woman, stuck in her apartment, fending off waves of assassins sent by her ex, a dangerous mob boss.

New pictures have been revealed for this years biggest sf epic JOHN CARTER as well, but not the photos from the film itself, which you've
seen already (check out HOLLYWOOD SPY'S huge spotlight on the film) but amazing concept art which shows how they've imagined the main characters should look like: gorgeous Lynn Collins' princess Dejah Thoris and Dominic West's Sab Than. With one of the strongest casts we've ever seen in a sf film ever since DUNE, including Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, James Purefoy, Polly Walker, Ciaran Hinds, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranstone, Willem Dafoe, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Samantha Morton, the story of this $250 million movie, follows a Civil War veteran who, transplanted to Mars, discovers a lush planet
inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians, warrior tribes and exotic desert beings. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess who is in desperate need of a saviour. The film hits cinemas next month. You can also check out a new clip showing John Carter's mighty powers, his crazy alien friend and princess Dejah in some action!

  1. I'm definitely excited for John Carter. But biggest sci-fi epic? Doesn't that honor go to the Avengers or perhaps the Hobbit? Hmmm. Think of the planning that went into the Avengers. All the separate movies just to build up to one main movie...that has NEVER been done before. And yes, I think that the line has been blurred completely between traditional science-fiction, fantasy, and comic books to the point that they are all basically one genre. Therein is probably the rub between what you say is sci-fi and what I say is sci-fi.

    1. AVENGERS never, they can't come close to the epicness of JOHN CARTER, and THE HOBBIT is not sf epic :) or to be more precise space opera in this case, my favourite genre.

But that concept art is gorgeous! Wow.

Oh, and we are having another snowstorm here and I want my own individual sleigh to get around in. Hopefully pushed by some hunky young fellow. :))

    1. It is an amazing concept art, isn't it?
We are having a blizzard too, Luanne, and it is minus 10 degrees Celsius and even lower during night. Plus the snow is very dry so I'm almost unable to shovel it, the wind just brings it back as soon as I turn my back :)

  7. Man I hope John Carter ends up good.... it feels like a Star Wars ripoff though. Well even if it is...... maybe still add some Yoda.... right?

    1. it does have a STAR WARS feel, but since it is based on the novel which is more than 80 years old, STAR WARS is the ripoff here not JOHN CARTER :)

  8. There was a time that Jude Law would have been cast as the bad boy lover. Now he's the cuckolded husband. Time marches on.

  9. What the ... seriously why in the world would Joe Wright butcher Aaron Johnson with that stupid blond wig & mustache??! That is just hideous! And why oh why hire Jude Law if you're gonna make him up like THAT?? Ok I was enthused about this cast before but now... ah well, I'm curious who they're gonna cast as Levin, but interesting that Matthew McFadyen is gonna play Kostya Oblonsky, Anna's brother, as he played Darcy to Keira's Lizzy in Pride & Prejudice.

    1. Told ya so :)
What they did to Jude is a crime! But pairing him up with horrid Keira is even a bigger crime. She already ruined ATONOMENT with her cold and superficial acting, and now this...

  10. I've been really anxious about Anna Karenina since the book was such a masterpiece that it's going to be impossible for a film to live up to it and the cast list had just confirmed my fears.

Also, I agree with everyone on Johnson's terrible hair. Without the clothes, he would probably look a lot more like a Russian peasant than a count.

    1. yep, and the version with Sophie Marceau and Sean Bean wasn't good either :( I didn't like the Vivian Leigh version either.
ANNA is just doomed when it comes to film adaptations.

  11. Jude Law looks crazy with a beard as big as that!
I'm looking forward to John Carter too; I hope that it'll give Kitsch time to shine.

  15. Oh God every time I think about Keira as Anna I want to break down and sob. That woman has no talent. Every role is straight up brat, exactly like her first one in Bend It Like Beckham.

The John Carter pics are lovely and I so can't wait for the film. You know how I feel about Taylor. ;))

Winter's Tale is a great story and I'm very interested to see how this movie will turn out.

  18. That's a different Winter's Tale than I was originally thinking. Kate Hudson can't headline a movie. Horray for more John Carter.
