TRAILER FOR AMANDA SEYFRIED'S "GONE"! TARSEM HELMS "KILLING ON A CARNIVAL ROW"! ANGELINA JOLIE IS RIDLEY SCOTT'S "GERTRUDE BELL"! NOAH WYLE OR GEORGE CLOONEY TO PLAY STEVE JOBS

The Hollywood Reporter wrote today about Ridley Scott finding the lead actress for his ambitious epic drama GERTRUDE BELL. The role will go to
Angelina Jolie who will now play the seminal Middle East figure in the early 1900s,  who left her upper-class English roots behind and went to Asia and the Middle East. She established the boundaries and framework for what would become the countries Jordan and Iraq. During World War I, she became a spy for British Intelligence, and her work helped put an end to the Ottoman Empire. The bad news is that the script was written by the writer of utterly monotonous THE CONSTANT GARDENER. As you know Angelina also has CLEOPATRA in her plans, while Ridley is currently finishing his sf film PROMETHEUS with Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson and Michael Fassbender.

HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
The biggest directing star at the moment, visual genius Tarsem Singh of IMMORTALS and MIRROR MIRROR has just signed on to helm KILLING ON CARNIVAL ROW. The strange story seems
fitting for the director since it is is set in a mystical city of Burgue, where both humans and bizarre creatures co-exist. The plot centers around a serial killer roaming the streets of Burgue. Sony Pictures is moving on with their biopic on STEVE JOBS. The proof that they didn't wait long after the death of the Apple founder is the fact that they already have two contenders for the lead role - Noah Wyle and George Clooney. As "MovieWeb" reports Wyle already played Jobs back in 1999. in a TV movie PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY, and as you know both Wyle and Clooney starred together in ER.

The first trailer for exciting action thriller GONE has been released today around the Net. Starring Amanda Seyfried, Wes Bentley, almost forgotten Michael Pare and Sebastian Stan, the film follows Jill Parrish who comes home from working the night shift to discover that her sister Molly has disappeared. Jill is convinced that Molly has been abducted by the same serial killer from whom Jill escaped the year before and that by sundown Molly will be dead. The police think Jill is crazy, so she sets out alone to rescue her. Is Jill mentally ill, merely chasing shadows, or will she find Molly before it's too late? The film hits cinemas next February.

  1. I'm a huge Angelina fan despite her not being popular among movie bloggers, and i understand why she would want to do something serious after the Tourist fiasco, but couldn't she find something other than a biopic? Not including getrude she has played 3 biopics(Or movies based on true stories) which would be Gia, Changeling, and A Mighty Heart. I just would have liked to see her go for something a bit more original rather than just picking the safe biopic route.

    Killing on Carnival Row sounds like something i would see. Gone seems like it might be good although something about it makes it feel like direct to dvd material to me.

  2. I'm guessing she chose that role because it's about a politician and an activist, and she likes that, probably reminds her on herself.
    I agree that GONE looks like DVD film :)

  3. I guess, but i would have just liked to see her do something a bit more risky. She already gave a fantastic performance as a activist figure in A Might Heart. This just feels very old hat for her.

  4. I love the sound of Tarsem's newest project and I will see it for sure. Seyfried's latest effort is straight out of the 1980's Angel films. Check it Molly "Angel" Stewart is a high school prostitute whose two besties are murdered by a serial killer she had been targeted by. She helps avenge them and escape. Looks like a straight to DVD flick to me.

    While Angelina is not my first choice for this role, I do like her. I loved the Tourist, probably the only one who did, but there you go. I'm weird. :)

  5. Didn't someone write the other day that the last few oscars have all gone to actors portraying real people? Maybe Jolie is hoping this part will be her ticket to the Academy awards. Hopefully the script will be interesting.

  6. I think that Jolie film looks good. I'm actually more interested though in the film she directed and wrote rather than this one. When does that one come out?

  7. I thought Gone looked good! But it does have that quick to dvd look!

    I vote for Noah Wyle. He resembles him and I remember that film. He did a good job! Clooney?! I like him, but do not see him in the role.

    Jolie can act, but I get sick of seeing the same people get all the roles. (wasn't Anne Hathaway in everything, early this year).

  8. Killing on Carnival Row sounds interesting. I think Wyle would be the better choice and he would also come cheaper I bet..haha...although I'd rather he make another Librarian movie.

  12. I don't know how you feel about it, but I always have a problem with famous people portraying another famous people on the big screen, because I keep thinking, 'That's Angelina...' or 'That's Tom Cruise...'I mean, when I watched Spielberg's the War of the World's a long time ago, I just kept seeing Tom Cruise trying to show off and saw the world. The same with Charlize Theron in Prometeus. When I first saw Alien, I didn't know who the actress playing Ripley was, so it was easy to get into the story. You know what I mean? I'm not saying Ms Theron is a bad actress. We know she's not, but we've all been waiting so long to learn a bit more about the space jockey, for example, and I just know that I'll be thinking, 'Well, that's the space jockey, alright...and that's Charlize...' Oh well, that's just my opinion.

  13. I haven't seen Noah Wyle in a while.

    I love historical films and I'm interested in what Angelina has brewing.

    I haven't seen A MIGHTY HEART. I generally try to avoid her films, because she is one of those actresses which always play themselves, they never really get into the role and the character. And I'm not sure I like her as a person, although I do like her charity work

    @Melsy
    he he I heard just yesterday from some girl how she liked THE TOURIST, and then went on saying that it was only because Angelina had great outfits in the film :)

  15. @Luanne
    oh, I really hope she won't get any Oscars, and especially not one for her directorial work in THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY.

    @Clarissa
    I refuse to watch it because I feel it will be ignorant of these regions, but it comes out till the end of the year, I think

    @Ella
    yep, most of the first reactions around the net were against Clooney. He is not a good drama actor, and he is bad for biopics since he doesn't go deep into the character

  16. @Pat
    Wyle would definitely be cheaper, although I'm sure the film about Jobs, who earned so much money exploiting the poor, will not have problems with money :)

    @Shells
    yep, I opted for that naughty pic of her today ;)

    @Interwebs
    glad you like it

  17. @Arlee
    yep, I wanted to give some nice pics to my boys today :)

    @Pesos
    she certainly does!

    @Medeia
    He had a hit show this summer, FIRE IN THE SKY or something like that, it was about alien invasion

    but see, that is exactly how you can establish great legendary actors from bad or average ones. When you watch legends like Meryl Streep or Cate Blanchett you never see them, you see the character they are playing, because they get into the essence of it. Those are real actors, that is the point of acting - playing someone else, not yourself. That is why I always hated actors like Al Pacino, Sean Penn, and similar, because they always play themselves in a very egocentric way, they never get into the character from the story

  20. Noah looks more like Steve Jobs, but I'd rather look at George Clooney :)

    I like the "real" Greek salad, too...yum! Thanks for that tidbit of info~

  21. I hear what you're saying sister :)

    Oh, glad you liked it, that's the real traditional one :) It is so popular here at the Balkans that we even have chips with that flavour ;)

  22. You always pick such great pictures of the actresses. Lovely stuff Dezzy.

    When it comes to Ridley Scott films I'm always intrigued by he has to offer. Angelina would be a good choice.

  23. glad you like the pics today, Dan :) I knew my boys would like them

  24. Jolie seems to be into biopics, even though Bell doesn't look at all like her. Ah well, we'll see when Ridley Scott will be able to film that one, it's just announced he's attached to a film with our Gerry Berry.

    ReplyDelete
  25. yes, I heard about the one with Gerry Berry too, and he has other announced projects which never seem to be realized.

  26. Noah Wyle continuing on as Jobs would be spectacular. That TV Movie PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY was actually pretty well done. Just get Anthony Michael Hall to cameo as Bill Gates.

  27. I haven't seen that one, but I think he looks like Jobs quite a lot
