ROBERT LUKETIC HELMING THE REMAKE OF "ROMANCING THE STONE"

Together with "Mad Max", "Ghostbusters", "Karate Kid" and "Overboard", it seems that yet another cult 80's movie is getting its remake. 20th Century Fox has apparently decided to make a new version of famous adventure "Romancing the Stone" and according to "Pajiba" Dan McDermott ("Eagle Eye") had been given the task of coming up with a script which he has already concluded.

The original movie was directed by Robert Zemickis, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner as the popular tandem and the movie had two sequels "The Jewel of the Nile" and "The War of the Roses". "Romancing the Stone" is an action-adventure story about a romance writer who sets off to Colombia to ransom her kidnapped sister, and soon finds herself in the middle of a dangerous adventure.
The remake is supposed to be helmed by charming Robert Luketic (the director of Australian/Serb-Croatian origin, famous for his romantic comedies like "The Ugly Truth", "Legally Blond" and "Monster-in-Law"). He also has Barbarella in plan but since "Romancing the Stone" already has a finished script it might be done before the adventures of the kitschy space tart which nobody really wants to see.

  1. When are we going to get a remake of Lord of the Rings? Surely it's coming soon since no one seems to be able to come up with any new ideas.

  3. Okay, I've been out of it. There's going to be a remake of Overboard and Mad Max? Who's starring in the remarks?

  4. :) well MAD MAX is supposed to star Charlize Theron and Tomas Hardy, while the main role in OVERBOARD was supposedly offered to Catherine Heigl but she rejected it :)KARATE KID is being made again just so that Will Smith could express some nepotism by giving the main role to his son.

  5. I wouldn't mind watching the remake of Romancing the Stone. Robert Luketic seems like a good pick for its director.

I also wouldn't mind seeing new Barbarella. :) It's not true that nobody wants to see it because of that campy version with Jane Fonda. After all, it was more than 40 years ago. :) World was much different back in 1960s.
Trouble with new Barbarella is that they try to produce/fund it in USA. Barbarella was never meant for American public. Both original comic book and movie were European. That film was too saucy for USA viewers back then. And it would be too saucy even now, if done similarly.
I would like to see Luc Besson as its director, or at least its producer. Barbarella should be done along the lines of his Fifth Element. That movie was magnificent.
Sci-fi adventure genre is getting a revival. Avatar, John Carter of Mars, even some low budget movies like Princess of Mars. I think it's time for another Barbarella. And Flash Gordon of course. :)

  6. Yes DRAGULJ SA NILA and LOV NA ZELENI DIJAMANT :)) were some of the most popular movies in old Yugoslavia, remember how they ruled TV programmes on Sunday afternoons when we were kids?? :))) What has ever happened to Kathleen Turner???

I must say I like Luketic, although most bloggers hate him. I see some charming warmth in him, the romantic fool in choosing projects, a good guy from the neighborhood. It is true that his movie aren't amazing, but most of them are joyful enough, and can bring you a few warm hours spent laughing and smiling in front of the TV or in cinema with your loved one or your family. I would like to see him doing some really big movie.
