OH, NO, GREMLINS ARE COMING BACK!

Oh, lord has someone given them water after midnight??? The Gremlins are alive and ready to come back again onto the big screens. According to the first gossips the remake of Joe Dante's 80's blockbuster "Gremlins" is in the works and will be stereoscopic 3D.
As you probably remember from your childhoods the original film centers on miniature green monsters who tear through the small town of Kingston Falls. Hilarious mayhem and destruction ensue as a mild-mannered bank teller releases these hideous loonies after gaining a new pet and violating two of three simple rules: No water (violated), no food after midnight (violated), and no bright light.
Well, I guess this was expected after the announced remakes of almost all other 80's hits from "Mad Max", "Dune", "Conan", "Ghostbusters", "Karate Kid" and "Overboard" to "Romancing the Stone" and "The Goonies". At least it would be nice to see that cute little Gizmo again :)

  3. I haven't seen this film since I was a wee youngster, but my only memory is that I was terrified of it. So much so that the thought of another version of it is terrifying. Because they're just. So. Scary.

  6. This is remake mania. Just about everything that made a dime a few years ago is getting a remake. Nevertheless, this one could be fun!

  9. oH, you are a bunch of babies :)) how can you be scared from the cute little Gizmo? :)

I wonder which movie from the 80's is next in line for a remake? TEENAGE WEREWOLF? BACK TO FUTURE? KARATE KID is already in making, as you know...

  10. I like this idea. :)

Dez, I think I heard of plans for teenage werewolf TV series. Something to compete with Vampire Diaries, perhaps? But I could be wrong.

Back to the Future is also a good idea. Maybe not with same story, but something similar. Time travel offers a lot of opportunities, if you do it in a fun way.

I think Karate Kid remake could turn out to be a good film. I just can't except that title. But not because of some nostalgia. It should be called Kung-fu Kid.
Damn that name/brand recognition and product placement. Such things cheapen the moral this film tries to convey.

  11. I must admit, Bels, I have no idea what's the difference between karate and kung-fu, although some of my karate friends might kill me if they read this confession :) Karate is more sportish, yes, and kung-fu more violent?

  12. Kug-fu is Chinese martial art, older and more diverse than karate (remember all those animal styles of kung-fu :)).
Karate is mostly Japanese invention (but probably based on kung-fu). Karate is also more involved in sport competitions.

New Karate Kid film takes place in China, and Jackie Chen's character teaches little Smith some form of kung-fu.

  16. Remaking Mad Max? Why?

And remaking Overboard? Another "Why?" but for a totally different reason!

  17. Ah, Alex, and they've just started, who knows what other remake-atrocities will be committed in the future :)
