I first mentioned gorgeous period set
drama movie PRISONERS OF PARADISE from director Mitch Jenkins more than four years ago but the film underwent a difficult road after its director died unexpectedly. It is now
finally ready to hit the cinemas this August in Europe and US and we have a trailer to prove it.
Set in 1925, Mauritius, at a time of social tension, this island
paradise is the backdrop for a coming of age love story.
Orphaned, 19 year old, Lucy Gladwell has been sent from England to live under the guardianship of her uncle George.
Initially seduced by the sumptuous beauty of her surroundings and the charm of her new family, Lucy sees George as a benign, humorous and loving man who has her best interests at heart.
But beneath this veneer of civilisation set in Paradise, lies a dark violent force, that wants to entrap and rule her.
When Lucy falls in love with Krishna, an indentured labourer their fates become intertwined.
Like Romeo and Juliet, true love is something neither of these PRISONERS OF PARADISE can

This gives me that Spanish production vibe..Rupert Penry Jones as Adam in Spooks is a favourite.

DeleteThe film "The Handmaid's Tale" ("История его служанки") starts showing in Russia on July 13th. I'd certainly like to see it. But, as always, the film ends very late. I don't know if I'll be able to watch it until midnight. Besides, I'm sick.

I wish I could see that series, but nobody airs Russian series here and we cannot find them on Torrents either, sadly.

Happy weekend. Mauritius makes such a gorgeous backdrop for a 1920s period piece! It is incredibly tragic about the original director, Mitch Jenkins, passing away, so it is a massive relief for the cast and crew that the film is finally making it to theaters this August after such a long, difficult road. The story definitely gives off some heavy Romeo and Juliet meets Wide Sargasso Sea vibes, especially with that contrast between the gorgeous island paradise and the dark, violent undercurrents coming from the uncle's household. Rupert Penry-Jones is always brilliant at playing characters who seem charming but have a sinister edge, so he seems perfect for Uncle George. Are you planning to catch this one on the big screen when it drops next month?

DeleteRPJ fan here and been waiting for this film since 2020! Don't know if it will hits cinemas....as it's mentioned "yours to own" ....streaming maybe?
ReplyDeleteI think it will be in select cinemas from August 6 in UK and August 10 in USA and then probably also on VOD as Video on Demand, but I am not sure.
