Netflix has revealed the streaming date for their new six episode historical series AMERICAN PRIMEVAL which will hit the streamer January 9th with Taylor Kitsch in the lead role. It will be a dark and gritty retelling of the exploration of the American West in the 19th century. This is America… 1857. This one was originally set over at Apple + TV  but animated adventure SPELLBOUND has then moved to Netflix where it will finally stream three years after on November 22nd. It is an animated musical with an original score from Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater and it centres on a young girl who sets out to break the spell that has divided her kingdom in two. Set in Lumbria, a world of magic where a young girl named Ellian must break a spell that has split her kingdom and transformed her parents into monsters! A long awaited trailer has been released for steamy period set movie drama QUEER which premiered over in Venice directed by Luca Guadagnino. The film is out in USA November 27th and in UK December 13th. Based on William S Burroughs's classic 1985 novel it will see Daniel Craig playing an outcast American expat named Lee who recounts his life in Mexico City among American expatriate college students and bar owners surviving on part-time jobs and GI Bill benefits. There he becomes obsessed with a discharged American Navy serviceman and drug user named Allerton, played by the wildly gorgeous Drew Starkey. The cast also has Lesley Manville (whom you won't recognise), Jason Schwartzman and Henry Zaga.

Straight from Variety come the first posters for an unusual hybrid movie THE BIG WAR from actor and director Matthieu Kassovitz. The film itself will be live action only the animal characters

The Big War should arrive in late 2026

in it will be animated. Inspired by the iconic two-part graphic novel “La Bête Est Morte,” written by Edmond François Calvo during the Nazi occupation of France during World War II and published just after the liberation of Paris, THE BIG WAR is directed by the famous French actor. The live action scenes will be shot next summer and then the animators will use CGI to create the animated characters before the film hits cinemas sometime in 2027 or Christmas 2026. This epic 30 million euro movie, set in the World War II is described by Kassovitz as a Paddington meets Saving Private Ryan. The English language movie will is planned as a family blockbuster that explains the war with humor, emotions and action. It’s the story of the Second World War where Americans are buffalos, the French are little rabbits, Germans are wolves, Italians are hyenas, Brits are handsome English dogs and Russians are brave white bears.

Richard Curtis directs based on his own trilogy of Christmas books for children. It is interesting that British pop sensation Ed Sheeran has written a special song Under the Tree especially for this movie so you can look forward to a nice tune as well. Now that is about to change as Radar Pictures are turning Larry Loftis' book INTO THE LION'S MOUTH The True Story of Dusko Popov – World War II Spy, Patriot, and the Real-Life Inspiration for James Bond, into a movie to be directed by Harald Zwart. The story focuses on a cunning and extremely daring man from Serbia called Dusko Popov, a double agent during World War II who was also a suave and sophisticated playboy while secretly spying for both the British and the Germans. In a daring twist, Dusko betrays the Germans and helps bring down the Nazi regime.

Il Gattopardo will stream on Netflix next year

Now, this one was shot back in 2023 and we have been waiting for almost two years for it to air, but we will have to wait a bit longer as it has now been officially confirmed for streaming in 2025, hopefully in the beginning of the next year. Netflix has revealed first poster for their  THE LEOPARD historical series which is the small screen adaptation of  Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's famous classic novel Il Gattopardo which was translated into more than 40 languages around the world. Tom Shankland directed the six episode saga which was previously adapted into a movie by famous Italian filmmaker Visconti! Thousands of extras and custom made costumes have been used in this ambitious production.

 

WHAT IS THE STORY?

While Sicily is struggling in the turmoil of the Risorgimento in 1860, the Prince of Salina Fabrizio Corbera (Kim Rossi Stuart) reigns over his family and his possessions, convinced that even these disorders are destined to pass. He hasn’t come to terms with the idealism of young people like his nephew Tancredi (Saul Nanni), who joins the rebels risking his own life, or the ambitions of men like Sedara, a vulgar man who rides change by pandering to the nascent power of mafia criminal organizations and intends to use his beautiful daughter Angelica (Deva Cassel) to get what he wants. At Don Fabrizio’s side remains Concetta (Benedetta Porcaroli), his favourite daughter, who shares his intelligence and foresight.
