HOW TRUE CAN YOU BE TO YOURSELF AS A TEACHER ASKS BRIAN JORDAN ALVAREZ IN FX AND HULU NEW COMEDY SERIES ENGLISH TEACHER

  ENGLISH TEACHER
NEW FX AND HULU COMEDY SERIES
English Teacher streams from September 2nd
As all of my colleagues around the world will tell you, this is probably the worst time in history to be a teacher, and not just because of the classes filled with immature millennials or disrespectful, egotistic and intolerable gen Z brats, but also because we live in the times where kids come to school with zero manners and respect towards their elders filled with privileged anger and bitterness, plus the all holier than thou attitude. This can all be seen in new half hour comedy series ENGLISH TEACHER which streams on FX and Hulu from September 2nd and will have ten episodes.

The series will stream in ten episodes
ENGLISH TEACHER STARS
Will and Grace star Brian Jordan Alvarez as Evan, an Austin high school teacher striving to meet the conflicting needs of students and parents amidst ever-changing rules. Evan wants to be a principled person but often runs into trouble because of it. By Evan’s side at Morrison-Hensley High is his friend group of other teachers. Chief among them is his best friend Gwen Sanders (Stephanie Koenig), the eager and optimistic history teacher who tends to see the best in people, even when she probably shouldn’t. Then there’s PE teacher Markie Hillridge (Sean Patton).
Brian Jordan Alvarez leads the new series
Though he can seem gruff and abrasive, beneath the surface, he possesses a knowledge of human nature that often proves valuable to Evan. When they aren’t disagreeing, Markie and Evan share a genuine bond… but they’re usually disagreeing. Principal Grant Moretti (Enrico Colantoni) wants nothing more than peace and the path of least resistance, a path Evan is rarely willing to take. While Grant keeps his own opinions close to the vest, he respects Evan’s passion, even if it makes his own job more difficult. Guidance Counselor Rick (Carmen Christopher) barely wants to be at this school, he sees himself as an entrepreneur, but still loves hanging out with the other teachers. Evan’s boyfriend Malcolm (Jordan Firstman) is a former teacher at Morrison. Wild and free-thinking, Malcolm often draws Evan back into a pseudo-relationship. When Grant informs Evan that he is being placed under investigation for a long-dormant incident where he and Malcolm kissed in front of students, Evan suddenly feels that he’s under a microscope and is being targeted for his sexuality. Evan is left with one rule to abide by: no relationships with faculty… only to meet Harry (Langston Kerman), a charming new teacher who seems to be interested in him.

  1. I think I would enjoy this one...I didn't like many teachers back when I was in schools...many of them were bullies.

    1. It is the other way around now, now the kids are the bullies, many of my colleagues are afraid to go to work.

  2. School started here last week and it's been a shit show. Whole sports teams are being canceled because of the lack of respect towards staff and other peers. Fights broke out at all of the high schools. One security guard was left with a broken hip and one child sustained a head injury that left them unresponsive and the ambulance had to be dispatched. I wouldn't feel comfortable sending my child to public school anymore. Allison did online schooling from Covid to graduation and does her college courses online now as well. This generation thinks ours was so messed up and they are going to swoop in and save humanity with their wokeism ideals, but seems to me this gentle parenting and wanting to be your child's bff is creating a system of disrespectful monsters. You couldn't pay me enough to teach today's youth.

    1. That is what I fought about with one of my ex besties who is also a teacher. He is very popular among the pupils because he teaches his subject as an MC trying to entertain them and be fun, but how far can you go with that, we are not there for their pleasure or entertainment or to cater to their boredom, they are there to listen and study not to have fun. It created a demand in them that other teachers need to entertain them as well. I took a middle position, trying to to equal amount of both, but the disrespect comes from home because their parents are disrespectful morons too. I have some older colleagues who have around ten or so years left till retirement and they are scared as hell to go to work every morning.

    2. I think that teachers should wear body cameras like our police officers do so those parents can see how awful their children really are. My friend was a substitute teacher last year and the amount of bruises she received was insane. Mind you, some of them came from the special needs classes, but she did have her fair share of regular kids slapping her too. She subbed the 9 year old classes and younger, so imagine how many injuries she would have sustained going into the middle and high schools. Needless to say, she did not go back this year. I think parents need to start being held accountable with fines or jail time if they refuse to get the child's behavior corrected. I don't mind a teacher trying to connect with children and making it fun IF it's the only way to get the child to connect to the material. But to do it for a popularity contest is a no for me.
