FINLAND IS PREPARING A BIG BUDGETED MOVIE ADAPTATION KALEVALA: THE STORY OF KULLERVO OF THEIR FAMOUS 11TH CENTURY EPIC WITH LEAD STARS SET

TO GET AN EPIC MOVIE ADAPTATION
As Variety reports, SF Studios is set to co-produce and distribute KALEVALA: THE STORY OF KULLERVO an expensive historical movie drama based on Finland’s national epic “Kalevala”! To be directed by Antti J. Jokinen it already has Scandinavian stars Elias Salonen and Eero Aho set as leads. Set in the 11th century it will be the first feature film adaptation of the Finnish national epic poetry compilation “Kalevala” which blends Karelian and Finnish folklore and mythology, created in 1835 by Elias Lönnrot, a Finnish doctor and explorer. With production starting in September, the film is scheduled for early 2026. release.

  1. I am not sure about this, expensive or not...at least not for me. We are watching a romantic fantasy film called The age of Adaline...quite an interesting one!

    1. Watched it many years ago, thought Blake was terrible in it, but she is always such a weak actress, beautiful but weak, and privately an immature person. Huisman was lovely in it, though.

  2. I've read this epic poem before, but I have no idea what it would look like on screen. Maybe it will be a good surprise?

    1. Epics are usually very confusing, so I have no idea either, but I imagine it will be Vikingish?

  3. I hope the visuals will be beautiful. If you think it will be Vikingish, I trust at least that would add a nice visual element to it.

    1. Hopefully, but Fins are probably the darkest nation in the world, I mean they consider heavy metal their folk music, so I expect it will be very bloody and dark.
