  GILDED AGE SEASON TWO
GETS A BRAND NEW TRAILER
Gilded Age returns October 29th
Well, it has been an extremely long wait, but HBO is finally bringing us the second season of Julian Fellowes' wonderful and highly entertaining costume drama GILDED AGE which will land October 29th with eight new episodes set again during the Gilded Age in America, a period of immense economic change, of great conflict between the old ways and brand new systems and of fortunes made and lost. Over in the United Kingdom, the new season will start a day later, October 30th on Sky Atlantic! Today you can check out the insanely gorgeous and super glitzy costumes in the brand new trailer that has been released today filled with lavish gowns and even more lavish sets, it is splendour all around:

THE SECOND SEASON
begins on Easter morning 1883, with the news that Bertha Russell’s (Carrie Coon) bid for a box at the Academy of Music has been rejected. Throughout the season, Bertha challenges Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy) and the old system and works to not only gain a foothold in Society but to potentially take a leading role in it. George Russell (Morgan Spector) takes on his own battle with a growing union at his steel plant in Pittsburgh. In the Brook House, Marian (Louisa Jacobson) continues her journey to find her way in the world secretly teaching at a girls’ school while much to everyone’s surprise Ada (Cynthia Nixon) begins a new courtship. Of course, Agnes (Christine Baranski) approves of none of it. In Brooklyn, the Scott family begins to heal from a shocking discovery, and Peggy (Denée Benton) taps into her activist spirit through her work with T. Thomas Fortune at the NY Globe. You can check out who has joined the second season cast in our previous post. Harry Richardson, Blake Ritson, Nathan Lane all return.

  1. I know Gattocito, you despise Downton Abbey, but they had many original subplots, one that didn’t occur to the original Upstairs/Downstairs creators, was to have one of the daughters marry the chauffer, a pacifist, social, anti-British Irishman. Throughout the series, Branson never gave up on his ideas, but grew to love and respect his in-laws and brought a lot of common sense to their lives. Bertha is not a revolutionary, she doesn’t want to change society, se wants to be one of the 400 and so apes them at their worst becoming a cardboard villain. She’s not even fun after a while, and many of us wonder why we should be interested in her pettiness.

    1. I don't, I love everything about her, she is super fun, gorgeous and I cannot get enough of her, the only thing I hate is that she is not given the ultimate dominant role in the series which she deserves. I would make the show only about her and her house.

    2. But then it would be just a reality show. No drama, no romance, no action, no full fledged characters. Just Bertha changing costumes and strolling around the house

    3. And she is the dominant character (more of a dominatrix) Which character is above her?

    4. Nobody will ever be above her, but some characters do get more screen time than her, at least Meryls brat was the lead in the first season, sadly.

  2. I did add this one to my watch list after initially vetoing it due to my disgust of Nixon. But you said it wasn't half bad, so I added it in. I'll probably wait for one more season to come out though because I hate lengthy waits between seasons.

    1. It is a lovely show and even Nixon is very likeable in it no matter how much we hate her otherwise.
