Another massive project currently in Russian cinemas is a mix of a documentary movie and historical live action epic PETER I: THE LAST TZAR AND THE FIRST
EMPEROR (Петр I: Последний царь и первый император) which is out in their cinemas since November 3rd! The figure of Emperor Peter the Great (Aleksei Lukin), as well as the era of his formation and reign, still excites the minds of people all over the world. The creators answer questions about how to take the throne when you are the fourteenth child in the family; how to win access to the sea when there is no professional army and navy in the country; how, in a few decades, to bring to the world leaders a country that no one had considered before, and many others. Andrei Kravchuk directed this epic movie.

Since our From Russia With Love weekend brought us a massive increase in visitors, I figured we could stay one more day in Russia as I have THE ARTIST (Hudozhnik) series to present to you. The sixteen episode historical series, which already started airing back in September on Russia 1 national
broadcaster, stars Andrey Smolyakov, Aleksandr Gorbatov, our dear Catherine the Great Marina Aleksa- ndrova, and our sweet boo Kirill Zaytsev (be still our hearts).

MARCH 1944
At the front, the Red Army is conducting a confident
offensive. The Allies are about to open a second front, and it seems
that the final defeat of Nazi Germany is very close. However, the joy of
the coming victory is overshadowed by a series of daring and brutal murders.
No one has ever managed to see the bandits up close. According to the
scanty testimonies of

attackers is constantly changing. And every time at the crime scene they
leave portraits of the dead. For these drawings and cruelty, the gang
was nicknamed "Dead Head", and its leader - the Artist.

I don't know which one looks better, but when I think it took me five years to find Ekaterina, I'll just have to brace myself for a long wait
ReplyDeleteIt is so terrible that we cannot find them and watch them! Especially The Union of Salvation, although the original film is available on Torrents. I started Germinal today and it is really great, visuals, costumes, actors, music, and so much eye candy in it too!

ReplyDeleteGiven the current situation that is fully unlikely, but some of these series do end up on national broadcasters around Europe, and it is also interesting how many different streamers Russia herself has. In my country, for example, teleoperators and mobile telephone providers have their numerous channels.

DeleteIt's sad that we don't see many of these Russian works here, especially now with the war it seems even more limited. Such a shame, because they really do make fabulous films and art. You know, I can't even buy digital art from my favorite Russian artists on Etsy anymore because they've been blocked.
ReplyDeleteThat is pure fascism and I cannot for the life of me understand how is Western people agreeing with it and allowing it. Imagine if we all blocked USA because they bombed dozens and dozens of countries around the world and banned their movies and art forever. And then they say that the East lives in dictatorship, while yours is ten times worse.
DeleteI absolutely agree. This is not a war that we need to put our nose in, yet the west loves to stick its nose where it doesn't belong. You even see on our blogger that it will block any blogs that are in support of the war. I don't understand why in this cancel culture, y'all haven't give us a taste of our own medicine.
DeleteYes, I did see Blogger notification that they will block pages which support Russia. You cannot get more fascist than that indeed. And the same time they won't cancel Will Smith who beats people up or Candice Cameron Bure who is a homophobic bigot.
