BECOMING ELIZABETH SAGA
is
the fascinating, untold story of the early life of England’s most
iconic Queen. Long before she ascended the throne, young Elizabeth Tudor
was an orphaned teenager who became embroiled in the political and
sexual politics of the English court. The death of 
King Henry VIII sets
into motion a dangerous scramble for power. His surviving children find
themselves pawns in a game between the great families
of England and the
powers of Europe who vie for control of the country. The world of
BECOMING ELIZABETH is visceral, dangerous, and very bloody; a time in
which every man or woman of the court is on the wheel of fortune,

may take them to a position of great power one moment, or the
executioner’s block the next. Judgements are rendered quickly, and no

plays Elizabeth I, a teenager who thinks she is an adult and old enough
to play the games that she is thrown into after the death of her
father. Tom Cullen plays Thomas Seymour, simultaneously charming, playful and funny whilst being hotheaded, ambitious and possibly
dangerous
– he expects the spoils that ought naturally to fall to the
King’s uncle! Romola Garai stars as Mary, Oliver Zetterström as Edward, Jessica 
Raine as Catherine Parr, John Heffernan as Duke of Somerset, Jamie Parker as John Dudley, Jamie Blackley as Robert Dudley, Jacob Avery as
Guildford Dudley, Alexandra Gilbreath as Kat Ashley, Leo Bill as Henry Grey, Bella Ramsey as Jane Grey, Ekow Quartey as Pedro, Alex Macqueen as Stephen Gardiner, and Olivier Huband as Ambassador Guzman. Anya

WHAT DID THE SPY THINK?
Dull!
Dull is the word to describe this ghastly monotonous affair of a
series. Dull casting with dull uninspired lead actress with zero
charisma and a dull voice and looks set in dull costumes and sets to
which the dull art production and lighting give no shine nor splendour
leaving them even more dull. From dull writing and direction, the
dullness never ceases to leave this wretched show that does not deserve
any of your attention.
I have never been a fan of any royal family...

DeleteI'm waiting breathlessly for this one, praying it is not gatbage like Starz last venture in Tudor Territory, The Spanish Princess. BE covers uncharted territy, In the abundant Tudor fiction there are few works (certainly not films) covering this period.
ReplyDeleteWell I can smell already that it will be woke and very much so LOL I hope it will at least be lovely visually. I wish they did this photoshoot in a garden, or on the top of a tower, not inside as they did with White Queen and Princess.
DeleteI’m afraid you will get a lot of indoor scenes since it was filmed in the middle of the pandemic. Watching Das Boot 3 (Gratitude is too small a word to encompass what I feel for you and F.) I realize that they had to rely mostly on CGI for exteriors. It takes a toll in terms of scenography ad aesthetics in general. Well-drawn sympathetic characters with strong storylines can compensate for that. Hope Alicia comes up with something between Dame Jean Simmons in Young Bess and Dame Glenda Jackson in Elizabeth R. I loved Cate as the Virgin Queen but didn’t like her as Princess Elizabeth. I also hope they take a leaf from Michael Hirst Tudors and make Bloody Mary a bit more sympathetic.
DeleteBut does not it make more sense to shoot outside when covid is lurking in closed spaces? Romola is not an overly likeable actress, so I expect Mary will not be likeable either, and neither will poor Jane Gray.
DeleteI agree, but they say that a small group of actors is easier to manage indoors where they can be monitored, Their temperatures checked, their masks checked, ect. Agreed, Romola is not nice, but she can do pathetic. I'm looking forward to Lyanna Mormont playing Lady Jane ..

DeleteWe love it when they chop the heads? Oh no's. Not me. That gives me the shivers. I am in the mood for an epic series to keep me occupied this summer, so I am glad I have something to look forward to. Though I just found out we'll be moving Mariah to Colorado the first week of July, so I really need to mentally prepare myself for that ordeal.

DeleteThe laboratory she works for has a branch in Colorado, so she'll just be transferring from her job here to the same position there. She interviewed there in October and they said they wanted her to start there right away, but her current apartment lease here isn't up until July, that's why she had to wait until this year to make the move. We've always told the girls they better get an education that will lead them out of Indiana. There just aren't any opportunities here. And it's boring AF! Colorado has so much nature and city life to explore, a lot of the kids are moving that way these days. Austin, Texas too.
DeleteAnd plus Colorado is the home of Last Man Standing :) I think I'd quite like the temps and the climate there.
DeleteI think you would too. She said it snowed there last weekend, but the way it snows is it hits in the morning and by noon it's all melted. They have nice temps for the likes of you and Jason who tend to hate the heat.
DeleteOooh, snow in May! I love it. It is over 30"C here at day and then it drops to just 13 or 15 at night, dont even know what to cover myself with.
