BBC has announced a production on new five part unconventional dark and funny thriller series THE FOLLOWING EVENTS ARE BASED ON A PACK OF LIES. It is the story of two very different women and the conman they have in common; a dark, funny, and unpredictable thriller about three remarkable characters trapped in a tangled triangle of complexly layered half-
truths and lies of epic proportions. Cheryl (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) is a bestselling fantasy fiction author who, recently bereaved, now lives alone with her poodle, Goblin. Alice (Rebekah Staton) is a formidable PA, a mother, and a lifelong Madonna fan. Rob (Alistair Petrie) is an eccentric and celebrated ecopreneur (allegedly). Three apparent strangers with nothing in common... except Rob’s dupes, deceptions and delusions.
This is a story about lies and artifice, about our weakness for self-deception, and about the rapid ascent of the modern fraudster. Asking why do ‘respectable’ psychopaths rise to the top? Why does a posh man in a suit still seem so plausible next to a working-class mum in a pink cape? And if you can’t beat them, is joining them really so bad?
Above all, this is also the story of an unexpected friendship between two very different women and the power
they’ll discover when they raise their voices in joyous rage. As they finally find the courage and self-belief to take charge, the con is on to try and take a predator down.
Joining the trio are Romola Garai as Juno Fish, Alice’s boss and a prominent designer who is famous for her unique brand of idiosyncratic floral patterns and products, Derek Jacobi as Sir Ralph Unwin who may or may not be being scammed by Rob, Julian Barratt as Alice’s painfully predictable, deeply kind, magician husband Benjy, Karl Johnson as Bill, Alice’s father and confidant, and Ellie Haddington as Diane, Alice’s long suffering, insufferable mother.

STARZ RELEASES TRAILER!
Starz has released a trailer for their new historical series BECOMING ELIZABETH which arrives June 12th! Long before she ascended the throne,young Elizabeth Tudor (Alicia von Rittberg), was an orphaned
teenager who became embroiled in the political and sexual politics of the English court.
The death of King Henry VIII sees his nine-year-old son Edward (Oliver Zetter ström) take the throne and sets into motion a dangerous scramble for power, when Elizabeth, Edward, and their sister, Mary (Romola Garai) find themselves pawns in a game between the great families of England and the powers of Europe who vie for control of the country. Thomas Seymour 
(Tom Cullen), the new King’s uncle, quickly marries King Henry’s widow, Catherine Parr (Jessica Raine), but soon takes an interest in the teenage 
Elizabeth while Duke of Somerset (John Heffernan), loses no time in claiming the position of Lord Protector for himself when the old King dies. The series will air on Starz Play internationally as well.

This sounds right up my alley. We are watching For Life and Better Call Saul these days..Better Call Saul is not bad.

ReplyDeleteYou liked it? I, sadly, did not, I thought it looked so bleak visually and dark too. And I did not get any radiance from Alicia in the trailer, does not look to me as a leadworthy actress. I will watch it, of course, for my boo Tom Cullen :) I find Jessica Raine terribly bleh too and always have. But hooray for a summer watch! We are not entirely doomed.
DeleteI won’t start arguing with you about a series that may disappoint u both of us. It’s Starz after all, but I like Alicia. I loved her in Charité. It’s true she’s not up to Dame Jean Simmons and Dame Glenda Jackson who were the best “Young Bess” in a long list of actresses that have played the princess, but I think she will do a good job. It is bleak, but it’s one of the bleakest periods in Elizabeth’s life. Tom Cullen is exquisite, I loved him even in rotten Knightfall, I’m sure I’ll love him as Somerset.
DeleteI loved Jessica as sweet Jenny in Call the Midwife, but she was so devious in Wolf Hall and Patrick Melrose that I realized that she’s quite an actress.
Yes, at least we have something to watch this summer.
About your comment on citrics, I don’t know how I survive either. Not only oranges were my favorite fruit for almost fifty years of my life, but I need Vitamin C for my respiratory ailments and my allergies. I’m also allergic to eucalyptus. I’m a mess.
I hope it does not disappoint us! Given that it is Starz, I hope we will get nice studio photoshoots with the cast as they are the only channel these days that actually does them. Fingers and tails crossed that we get some other costume drama this summer too!

DeletePack of Lies for the win!! It's very true that people profile and judge based on appearance all the time. I'm only 5 feet tall with a very innocent face. I always tease that I can get away with anything! Obviously not true, but I'm definitely never the first that's accused. :)

As some of the booth vendors ask me to watch their booths when they need a break because they think I’m eye candy and good for their business, but I could be robbing them blind and they wouldn’t even suspect a thing. It’s amazing how people are judged on their appearances. Too bad we can’t see into a brain to really know what people are about.
