  A SPY AMONG FRIENDS
GUY PEARCE JOINS DAMIAN LEWIS IN BRITBOX SERIES
Guy Pearce replaces Dominic West
We announced the project about a year ago, but now Guy Pearce is replacing Dominic West next to Damian Lewis in A SPY AMONG FRIENDS mini series which will air on BritBox and Spectrum. Based on Ben Macintyre's book, it follows the defection of British intelligence officer and KGB double agent, Kim Philby (Guy Pearce), through the lens of his complex relationship with MI6 colleague and close friend, Nicholas Elliott (Lewis). The Fall 2022 show examines espionage through their friendship, the fallout of which affects East-West relations to this day. Philby was a British spy who defected to the Soviet Union in the 1950s, betraying secrets to the Russians in the early years of the Cold War. He and Elliott entered the spy

FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER
TO BECOME SERIES AT NETFLIX
Mike Flanagan will produce the series
While you are currently watching his horror series Midnight Mass over at Netflix, Mike Flanagan has closed a deal with the streamer to turn Edgar Allan Poe's famous Gothic story THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER into a television series. Although the title is connected with one of his stories, the series will apparently cover multiple of his works. The story, published in 1893, features themes of madness, family, isolation and metaphysical identities. It follows a man who visits his friend, Roderick Usher, who lies ill in a gloomy estate. Spooky events inside and outside the house escalate into a terrifying conclusion to the physical and ancestral House of Usher. It is not known if the eight episode series will be period set or not.

    1. And you Americans do love them spooky. Hope they do a good casting for it. My fave of Poe's stories is Cask of Amontillado, I don't remember laughing so hard to any other story.

    2. We do love them spooky. I don't like them gory, but a good scare here and there I dig!

    3. I bought a hardback of his stories recently as it was in big format, something we do not often get, it is waiting to be read even though I'm not a fan personally.

    4. I'm sure it looks lovely on your bookcase!

    5. It does, I'm a huge fan of hardbacks, especially big ones as we almost never have those here / too expensive. My publisher just published DUNE in a fat hardback with illustrations and it is almost $20 while books here are usually from 5 to 15$.

    6. Big fat hardbacks usually run $30 to $50 here. I'd have a whole collection of pretty books if they were that cheap!

    7. Yes, but our monthly salaries are 300 to 500$ unlike yours LOL

    8. I just need to come there and load up on books. I'm sure my luggage fees would be sky high though, canceling out any savings at that point LOLOL!

  4. While I'm normally not a horror person, you had me at Edgar Allen Poe! I'm all in with The Fall of the House of Usher. When we went to Providence last year, I found myself retracing a lot of the steps that Poe was known to frequent.

    1. I think he had internal demons, but they didn't linger around his popular hang outs. LOL

    2. No free drinks, probably, for them there.
